  1. Choke yourself. You are called SECURITY forces, not hall monitors. SECURE the installation... issuing tickets for broken headlights, pulling someone over for jogging without a reflective belt, monitoring the BX parking lot for someone parked over the line does not = keeping the base from being overrun by Al Qaeda or Timothy McVeighs.
  2. This thread begs the unanswerable question: If you were on a bus full of gays, would you get off?
  3. This shouldn't be in the "WTF?" thread... it should be in the "Right on!" thread.
  4. Pfft... I can only DREAM of getting a Segway.
  5. Worked for LiveNation; which provides venue security. If you ever been to a concert and seen the dudes in the barricade; or if you've ever been to a "Meet n' Greet" at a show you'd know what I'm talking about. I've also done the same detail for Toby Keith, Rascall Flats, Coldplay, Fall Out Boy, Dave Matthews Band, Chris Daughtry, etc... it's actually a pretty boring gig. A lot of standing around; pay is crap. LOL- I was shoved around by about 10,000 pre-teen girls once... was working a festival show geared towards the pop music crowd and Jesse McCartney playing; he decided to jump off the stage and walk through the venue while singing. We were literally raped trying to get him out of those girls clutches... my ears rang for days from the throngs of 12 year olds shrieking. Gives me chills just thinking about it.
  6. I prefer the world according to Ronald Reagan:
  7. I'll agree with that M2... Wilson has a right to his opinion and to voice it. I think the timing and the place was inappropriate. I think his immediate apology was enough, no need for the house to censure him. Definitely don't need Carter adding his suggestion that it was racist (c'mon, seriously?). I wasn't arguing for/against Wilson... just pointing out that it was largely ignored here but this thread is wildly popular. That's all.
  8. Just wanted to point out the irony that the thread on Sen. Joe Wilson disrespecting the President during an address to a joint session of Congress garnered four whole posts... of which only one was on topic (albeit only slightly); whereas the thread about a rapper disrespecting a country music star during the Video Music Awards has at this point accumulated four pages of responses. Guess our society has lost focus on some of the more important things in favor of pop culture. (Don't take the above paragraph too seriously- it was meant more of as a joke with some underlying truths- I'm not bashing anyone in particular; I'm bashing all of us, me included) I will say this though- I provided personal security for Taylor a couple of years ago during an autograph signing session. She was only supposed to sign autographs for 45 minutes then get back om her bus and jet... she ended up signing autographs for 4 and 1/2 hours to ensure that all her fans that showed up got the opportunity to meet her. While it irritated me that I worked 3 hours longer than I was supposed to she definately earned my respect for doing that. You could tell that her mother (who was never far behind) made sure her daughter stayed grounded. Mandatory hotness pic:
  9. I was stationed at YSRI (RAAF Richmond, Australia) and was just about to head to bed for the night when the news broke of a fire at the first tower... it was rumored that a plane may have flown into the building but that wasn't confirmed yet. Then I watched on live TV as the second plane flew into the other tower and I was just devastated. I remember calling and waking my CC and the other members of our detachment and informing them of the news. Most of us stayed up all night watching the coverage. I remember that former President Clinton was speaking in Alice Springs and we had to redirect the Credible Dove jet to go pick him up instead of flying back home that next morning. Surprisingly the Australian TV stations showed direct feeds of the U.S. news stations 24/7 for about 3 or 4 days straight. You couldn't find an Australian show on any of the locals stations; just U.S. news. I called the TV stations and expressed my appreciation for their continued coverage. Shitty thing to have happened on your birthday, but now no one forgets it. Cheers to those that died in the towers, the pentagon, and the brave souls on flight 93 that saved countless lives by giving theirs. To all the first responders.
  10. What a great response by the Sheriff. Just sealed his next re-election... not implying that was the reason he did it, but a side effect that the voters in Jefferson county won't soon forget. Cheers to SFC Woods and Sheriff Boyer.
  11. Yes MI, not WI. Thanks. Got confused with Volk Field for a second.
  12. The best is in Alpena, WI. I felt like I had time warped to 1983.
  13. I see someone else reads collegehumor.com
  14. This is interesting; I wonder about the sources though because they contradict GW Bush himself. In the Feb 7, 2004 interview with Tim Russert, Bush himself denies ever having volunteered for Vietnam: Russert: Were you favor of the war in Vietnam? President Bush: I supported my government. I did. And would have gone had my unit been called up, by the way. Russert: But you didnt volunteer or enlist to go. President Bush: No, I didnt. You're right. I served. I flew fighters and enjoyed it, and provided a service to our country. In those days we had what was called "air defense command," and it was a part of the air defense command system." https://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4179618/ It's about 3/4 the way down the page. So either Bush had a moment where he did in fact volunteer but didn't remember or didn't want to go through the whole explanation process of saying he volunteered but wasn't selected. I'm not saying Mary Mapes was right... if she had contradictory evidence she should have at least shown it and let the viewers decide. Withholding things detrimental but possibly key to your story isn't balanced reporting. Edit: While looking this over I came across a passage from Mary Mapes 2005 book: Truth And Duty: Specifically, on page 65, she writes about a 1999 interview she conducted with Maurice Udell, who was George W. Bush's trainer in the 147th Fighter Group in Houston in the late 1960s. Here's the passage: So it seems this website didn't really crack this big secret when Mary herself spilled the beans back in 2005.
  15. No need- they just implant malicious code in our thumb drives and our computer processors that do the work for them.
  16. I'm a little slow- are you saying it's ironic to have an RC plane replica of an RC plane?

Seems as if this guy was a plant for the Libertarian party opposing taxes. Story from AZCentral.com
  19. In the movie 1941 with John Belushi. When Captain Birkhead seduces the chick in the C-47 while flying over LA with the AAA going off around them. No Youtube clip. Sorry.
  20. We had a great gig in Australia- selling Aussie beer to outgoing aircrews at a 1 USD for 1 AUD exchange rate (current rate at the time .65 usd for 1 aud). Rather than trying to figure out a price that would make us money with the exchange rate constantly fluctuating we'd figure that was the easiest way and as long as the USD was on top we'd make money... we were unprepared as to how much we'd sell though. When we got a new CC and he saw our MWR fund was over 20K he quickly liquidated the account (mandatory luncheons and team building outings) and made sure we spent whatever we made from that point on. For example: 1 case VB cost us $13 + another $2 tax; $15 AUD x .65 = $9.75 USD. Sell the case at $15 USD and you make $5.25 a case. When you're selling 20 cases evey time a plane left (twice a week) then you can see how quickly that added up. So in summary my post has no bearing whatsoever on your scenerio unless you can somehow manage to import aussie beer and sell it at a huge profit.
  21. Ha you shoulda seen the original message I had posted- that was a work of art. Unfortunately the powers that be wouldn't let it stay.
  22. Found this gem and just had to pass it on: I think we all can relate in some way...
  23. This dealership is known for doing this every so often. It's actually a voucher for the price of an AK... pay a little extra and you can get a voucher for an AR. If only I was in the market for a new truck.

Boy, 10, shoots home intruder in the face. https://www.wafb.com/Global/story.asp?S=10741492&nav=menu57_2 The bad guys lived, but the kid is only 10, so I think we should all cut him some slack.
