  1. And if they did go ahead and attempt to jump start your vehicle but in the process scratch your paint as they're hooking up the cables and accidentally touch something and fry your car's computer... who's going to pay? Are you going to just blow it off and take teh hit yourself or are you going to make Big Blue pay for the damages? My guess is you're gonna make Big Blue try and pay which it then becomes a liability issue. Hence it's easier to just not get involved in the practice at all rather than risk having a bunch of claims by people looking to get some extra dough from Uncle Sam.
  2. Direct link to video
  3. Good job taking something out of context and rearranging the content as to give it a completely different meaning. Although that ad just might work especially if you use the announcer for the monster truck shows... if it does I wan't a percentage of the sales!
  4. True in theory... however I do remember Al Udeid's AFI 36-Chow My Hog supplement did allow for sunglasses to be worn around the neck via a strap. Found this on Bagram's website as a part of their deployment guide:
  5. Turned in my voucher for my trip to Puerto Rico on Monday- the money was in my bank on Thursday. No gripes here. Who doesn't love a paid vacation to the Caribbean?
  6. I personally like to state that I run a funeral home... this usually hooks em at first because 1- funeral directors make great money and 2- what's a better topic starter than dead people. When pressed for more details about my job I usually say that I don't actually run a funeral home, I mostly just sweep up and vacuum. Always good for a laugh to see the change in expression and attitude.
  7. That phrase reminds me of some bad 80's war movie where everyone in the Air Force wears the service dress as their everyday uniform and an A1C has a direct line on his radar console to the president.
  8. It's easy for me to remember... on Memorial Day weekend every year I honor those that died by going to the lake and killing a few hundred brain cells. Although supply of said brain cells is running low.
  9. This just confirms DADT is a asinine rule. Toro, sorry to hear one of your buds is getting screwed over on this deal. No pun intended. Out of curiosity what was your stance on gays in the military before this incident and (assuming you were anti-gays in uniform) does knowing that someone you knew so well and had served honorably with change your views on this policy?
  10. Just a question... When you think of the press or the media do you think of newspapers (NY, WSJ, USAtoday + locals), talk radio, television (Fox, CNN, MSNBC), or internet news sources? Or all of them? Which one of these news outlets is probably the most influential in your opinion? For me I rank them from most influential to least in this order: 1) TV 2) Internet 3) Talk radio 4) Hard copy newsprint Would you agree? If not how do you rank them?
  11. DoD civilians, yes. They have to wear uniforms in the desert too. Civilian contractors (KBR, Log 20/20, Boeing, etc) no.
  12. Is that why Scooter Libby was convicted? Because Bush was blamed or because Libby was blamed? Is that why Rumsfeld resigned? Because Bush got blamed or because he got blamed? Oh sorry... those weren't minor glitches. I guess it's okay to lay blame off on major glitches but not minor ones.
  13. I'm sure he was briefed that it was going to be unavailable that day for a training mission/photo op. Was he briefed on the specifics... dunno. I'll use this analogy- say you have to turn in the Squadron CC's car in for scheduled maintenance. Are you going to brief "Hey boss, you won't have your car today Veh MX has some scheduled maintenance to do on it."? Or are you going to brief "Hey boss, no car today. Veh MX has to change the oil, gap the sparkplugs, check the timing, rotate the tires, replace the air filter, turn the drums, and replace the brake pads."? I'm guessing you're going to go with brevity. Now if the car is getting routing MX done that includes getting the roof painted with the dixie flag then you may want to go ahead and brief that detail. Just like the detail that the aircraft will be doing low levels over lower Manhattan. What may seem minor and inconsequential to you may not be so inconsequential to others.
  14. Then there was no need to take them as well! Why take a picture of something no one will ever see?
  15. I had my Ducati for 5 years... didn't have one single problem with it that whole time. Seems a lot of other Ducati owners agree with me that Ducati's reliability is fantastic. The current Testaretta engines are basically as bulletproof as their Japanese equivalent, albeit with higher given maintenance costs. The air-cooled 2V motors have always been stone-solid. Basically like the Honda XR version of a streetbike engine. As far as the bad blood goes, IMO, 75% of the people who like to bag on Duc reliability have never even owned one and are forming their opinions based on hearsay from others who have never actually owned one either. Another 20% are previous owners who are just pissed that during 20K miles of use they actually had to spend some bucks on maintenance costs outside of the oil and filter/rubber changes they got used to while owning other "use-and-throw-away" type bikes. The other 5% are the actual guys who got bit by the unreliable '90's SBK during ownership, and have a legitimate beef. Here an interesting article I ran across on the Ducati's reliability. I think this speaks volumes:
  16. Why not just buy a ticket to ETAR and then catch a space-a flight to KCHS/KWRI/KDOV?
  17. Sorry, hippies -- if you can't wear pants, you can't play Ultimate Frisbee I think that last sentence is probably one of the saddest things I have ever read.
  18. Time machine much?
  19. Yes it is. A buddy of mine used this as his trainer. I rode it a few times and it was a great beginners bike. I also recommend a Ducati Monster 600 as a great beginner and really good for women as they tend to sit fairly low to the ground. Plus the riding position isn't as forward as a lot of the other sport bikes out there.
  20. I blame Obama... seems to be the popular trend.
  21. Reber!
  22. Oh yeah it's that time of year again... what fun times it is to live in Tornado Alley. Had a tornado touch down about 2 miles directly south of my house last night. Typically when the sirens go off we head for the basement. Well we had a bunch of friends over that day/evening and had been drinking since noon... Take a bunch of rowdy people + alcohol+confirmed tornado nearby = bunch of drunks out in the front yard scanning the skies. These pics are from a nearby farm that got hit. No damage to this guy's house but all of his five of his out buildings were destroyed (one was only 40 feet from his home). No deaths were reported thankfully.
  23. I guess the question should be- do you think the Chief was rendering you a salute as well as the O5? If so, then you are obligated to return that salute. Last sentence of AFI 34-1201 para 8.1.1.1
  24. But not everyone does... some enlisted have to go in open <whatever> for various reasons. And they are promising you a job and financial compensation- the job is being an officer in the U.S. Air Force and they are giong to pay you a monthly salary + housing to do it. It's guys like this that become the shoes that mandate saluting in PT gear, OREs in the desert, reflective gear out the ying yang, etc. They don't get a rated slot so they have to take their anger out on the rest of the Air Force by instituting ridiculous rules. Misery loves company.
