  1. You haven't earned your red wings?
  2. Not your personal army
  3. Not sure if these are reposts (I hope not)
  4. Yes! back to the women...
  5. I don't know... I went to Elmendorf in '94 and my brother in law came up a year later. He was SF and he worked 12 hour shifts (14 hours if you count the before and after shift guard mount) for my whole tour up there (nearly 6 years). Most of the time it was 5/2 12s- I think they tried a 4/3 schedule once for a couple of weeks but found out they didn't have enough manning. So I tend to believe the story. I think a lot of the retention problem with the SF is the whole "we eat our own" philosophy they have.
  6. For those with a VERY dry sense of humor (like me)-
  7. My condolences to the families of those lost... Hopefully Travis will be alright. I had the opportunity to have a conversation one afternoon last year while working VIP security at a local concert venue. We chatted for probably an hour and half and I got to say despite his appearance this is one guy that impressed the hell out of me... from his work ethic to just how intelligent he really is. An all around good guy was my impression of him. I've met some real a-holes doing this part time gig; and I've met some very genuinely good people- Travis falls in the later category. Good luck Travis!
  8. PLEASE don't give them any new ideas. I swear next time I go to the Deid if I'm having to wear reflective socks I'm looking your ass up!
  9. I was stationed at RAAF Richmond for 4 years, during that time I believe there was 3 or 4 Herc pilots (all were O3s) down there on an exchange as well as the Det CC position (O4). This was about 4 years ago.
  10. I might just try that out lol Lemme clarify, I'm not deployed currently. However we did do ORE's at the Deid beginning of this year... twice!
  11. Speaking of the reflective belt- for our upcoming ORE and ORI everyone on our base is required not to just wear a reflective belt- but it required to be a WHITE reflective belt. Forget the fact that I have a perfectly good orange, blue, red and somewhat purple/pinkish belts readily available in my closet I now have to go to my squadron's supply guy and get said mandatory white belt to add to my collection.
  12. 120? Must be nice... standard is 180 now, at least for a great majority of us. Flip flops are good back and forth to showers.
  13. Wow- no way in hell would I of gotten up. I would of said "sorry" and closed my eyes to continue my nap thereby deescalating the conflict. Had he gotten physical at that point I'm sure it would've been stopped immediately and he would've been escorted off the plane where some nice police officers would be waiting to greet him. Giving up your seat just satisfied his ego and once again proved in his mind that bullying and intimidation are the best forms of getting what you want. Here's my pet peeve, on a recent United flight to Salt Lake I was seated in a broken seat. No big deal the seat would just automatically recline and wouldn't stay in the upright position for takeoff and landing. I swear the FA came by no less than 7 times to tell me I need to have my seat up at which point I would explain to her that it was broke and won't stay up. It was a full flight so no chance of getting another seat plus I had two of my sons with me. Seriously, how many times do you have to tell a person that their seat is F'd up before they stop bugging you?
  14. I don't know why but I love this one-
  15. Males in Crocs =
  16. SUU - HIK and vice versa should almost always have room with as many flights as they have. You can sign up the second you start leave (i.e. the end of your last duty day before the first day of chargeable leave). While at EDF I saw a TSgt try to scam the Space A system by putting himself on a flight without standing the space a call (he worked at the pax terminal)... when he got caught he lost his stripe (line number for master) and his NCO Academy slot. Sad things is he would've still made the flight had he just followed the cattle call.
  17. In one picture the radio station is set to 93.9- a quick google of 93.9 FM turns up these possible cities (we can eliminate the cities that don't typically have palm trees- i.e. Detroit, Wichita, etc): Miami, FL Burbank, CA Honolulu, HI Chico, CA Jackson, MS Just a start at least.
  18. I left in January and they weren't mandatory then, but highly convenient... I'd recommend getting one. It's simple to get and works just like an ATM. You can transfer money from your home check/savings acct to it and use it like a debit card or pull cash out. Pretty much everywhere that you can buy something at the deid you can use your Eagle Card. You can also transfer money from your card to someone else's card if you purchase a cell/ipod/whatever from an individual. I was reluctant to get one until I saw how convenient it was.
  19. You should be good sales tax wise- property tax varies by state to state but once you pay sales tax you should never have to pay it again.
  20. YES! Is the cookie nazi still there? When I left the services CC was being anal about how many cookies you can have, you could no longer get them yourself but rather had to be served them, etc etc.
  21. Correct; no open toed shoes in chow hall has been around forever- besides I don't want to look at your toe jam while eating my Sweet and Sour Chicken.
  22. And the bad thing about that guy is... once everyone knows he is the guy that gets things done everyone starts coming only to him; making it easier on his lazy co-workers and burning this guy out in the process. He therefore gets out of the Air Force and goes civilian corporate where he gets paid commensurate with his abilities and work ethic (whereas in the AF the douche sitting on his ass honing his solitaire and net surfing skills is making the same pay). Thus leaving only the lazy co-workers to handle things (sts) until some sharp airman comes in and repeats the above process. It is up to the OICs to weed out these non-performers. If a person isn't performing in a star fashion then they should not be getting a star EPR. Yes a 2 EPR is hard to write... so what? Laziness breeds laziness.
  23. Here's my comment on finance: In my home office I have a framed LES from during my assignment to Australia- one month's total pay of $3.19; that about sums up my opinion of Finance.
