Holy Crap! Hope no one was hurt (or at least injuries kept to a minimum) not to mention the thousands of man-hours and cash spent on all those homebuilts trashed and now all down the tubes. Hope everyone is OK and gets back with their families soon. EDIT: For spelling.

Should Drinking Age for Military Personnel Be Lowered to 18?
Stitch replied to ClearedHot's topic in Squadron Bar
September 1981, Lowry AFB, Colorado (that's Denver for you youngins) sent on a work detail with some other FNGs while waiting for our tech school class start date. By the time we found the building they didn't need us anymore but they were having a Friday afternoon keg party in the garage area. Soooo for $5.00 we got all the beer we could drink. 1st though: This is a trick to fry the new kids less than a week out of basic. 2nd thought: $5 bucks to get hammered at work on a Friday?! I'm gonna like this Air Force stuff! Fast FWD to my 1st real base: Friday afternoon: Mandatory attendence at DCM CC call (think Mx GP/CC) blah, blah, blah roll out numerous kegs in the empty B-52 phase dock. FREE beer for the MX troops 90% of which were under 21. Awesome. Boy, how things have changed.... -

Found this over on Airwarriors. So I though I'd share. Source: https://www.airwarriors.com/forum/showthread.php/155343-Where-have-all-the-Fliers-(or-is-that-Flowers)-gone...long-time-ago Some interesting thoughts on current events. Sent by a retired Air Force F-111 pilot. Where have the Fighter Pilots gone? The Fighter Pilots are sulking in the Ready Room and waiting for the Skipper to return from the Psychiatric Ward and his girly man "Shrink" because he would not take the new "Don't Ask, Don't Tell Jack Wagon" for his wingman or much less in his Squadron! To think that a "Fighter Pilot" could sit in an air conditioned trailer at Nellis AFB during the day and at the Sands Hotel at night in Las Vegas and draw combat pay because he/she was under "combat stress" is enough to gag a dog off a gut wagon Dick Mudgett ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++ Read it, weep and pass along Think about this when you read the rest of the letter below. What happened to our Air Force? We used to go to the Officers Club Stag Bar on Friday afternoons to drink, smoke and swap lies with our comrades. Drinking became frowned on. Smoking caused cancer and could "harm you". Stag bars became sexist. Gradually, our men quit patronizing their clubs because what happened in the Club became fodder for a Performance Report. Same thing at the Airman's Club and the NCO and/or Top 3 clubs. Now we don't have separate clubs for the ranks. Instead we have something called "###" Air Force Base Club. It's open to men and women of all ranks....from Airman Basic to General Officer. Still, no one is there. Gee, I wonder why. The latest brilliant thought out of Washington is that the "pilots?" flying remote aircraft in combat areas from their duty station in Nevada or Arizona should draw the same combat pay as those real world pilots actually on board a plane in a hostile environment. The Politically Correct Logic? The remote vehicle operator is subject to the same stress levels as the combat pilot actually flying in combat. REALLY!!!??? Now that I've primed you a little, read on. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Where Have All The Fighter Pilots Gone? There are many who will agree with these sentiments, but they apply to more than just fighter pilots. Unfortunately, the ones with the guts to speak up or push for what they believe in are beaten down by the "system." Unfortunately there is a lot of truth here. Supposedly, Secretary Gates has a force beating the bushes to learn who wrote this. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Where Have All The Fighter Pilots Gone? Answer: Good Question. Here is a rant from a retired fighter pilot that is worth reading: It is rumored that our current secretary of defense recently asked the question, "Where are all the dynamic leaders of the past?" I can only assume, if that is true, that he was referring to Robin Olds, Jimmy Doolittle, Patton, Ike, Boyington, Nimitz, etc. I've got the answer. They were fired before they made Major. Our nation doesn't want those kinds of leaders anymore. Squadron commanders don't run squadrons and wing commanders don't run wings. They are managed by higher ranking dildos with other esoteric goals in mind. Can you imagine someone today looking for a LEADER to execute that Doolittle Raid and suggesting that it be given to a dare-devil boozer - his only attributes: he had the respect of his men, an awesome ability to fly, and the organizational skills to put it all together. If someone told me there was a chance in hell of selecting that man today, I would tell them they were either a liar or dumber than shit. I find it ironic that the Air Force put General Olds on the cover of the company rag last month. While it made me extremely proud to see his face, he wouldn't make it across any base in America (or overseas) without ten enlisted folks telling him to zip up his flight suit and shave his mustache off. I have a feeling that his response would be predictable and for that crime he would probably get a trip home and an Article 15. We have lost the war on rugged individualism and that, unfortunately, is what fighter pilots want to follow; not because they have to but because they respect leaders of that ilk. We've all run across that leader that made us proud to follow him because you wanted to be like him and make a difference. The individual who you would drag your testicles through glass for rather than disappoint him. We better wake the hell up! We're asking our young men and women to go to shitty places, some with unbearable climates, never have a drink, have little or no contact with the opposite sex, not look at magazines of a suggestive nature of any type, and adhere to ridiculous regs that require you to tuck your shirt into your PT uniform on the way to the porta-shitter at night in a dust storm because it's a uniform. These people we're sending to combat are some of the brightest I've met but they are looking for a little sanity, which they will only find on the outside if we don't get a friggin' clue. You can't continue asking people to live for months or years at a time acting like nuns and priests. Hell, even they get to have a beer. Who are we afraid of offending? The guys that already hate us enough to strap C4 to their own bodies and walk into a crowd of us? Think about it. I'm extremely proud of our young men and women who continue to serve. I'm also very in tune with what they are considering for the future and I've got news for whoever sits in the White House, Congress, and our so-called military leaders. Much talent has and will continue to hemorrhage from our services, because wanna-be warriors are tired of fighting on two fronts-- One with our enemies, Another against our lack of common sense.

I agree. It's not a matter of "if" but a matter of "when". If the US Governemnt was a business, it would have gone belly up (Enron style impolsion) years ago.

Been there done that on both of those. So if you can't have FOD on the ramp or in the FOD can, just were the fvck are you supposed to keep it before you can get to the authorized FOD disposal place? Also, I can understand trying to keep the forms (781As, Ks, etc...) somewhat clean, but that's one major BS write up if you ask me. On the loss of stripe thing please tell me it ain't so. Holy batsh*t! Just WTF is going on out there these days?? On a similiar note and not to sidetrack the thread: Kunsan 1992; both guys on my load crew were written up by the 1st Sgt during a dorm inspection for not having their beds made. The fact that they were asleep in same beds at time of the 0900 inspection after a 12+ hour swing shift was no excuse IAW the shirt after the Weapons flight chief and I tried to fight the situation. The bullsh*t is everywhere....

Agree. When I got to Mtn Home in late 98' OPS and MX were in the same squadron and the CC had an "orientation" program. All the MX guys/gals went over to OPS and either the CC or DO gave a brief on what they on the pilot side of the house did and why they do what they do (upgrades, check rides, etc...). On the other side of the coin, the new pilots met with the MX OIC for a brief on the how/what/whys of MX world. While it didn't make all teddy bears and roses between the two halves of the squadron it did help clear up some of misconceptions and ignorance on both sides.

...OIC, NCOIC, 1st Shirt, Section Chief, Flight Chief, Top-3, Focus 56, Wing Safety, Weapons Standardization, EOR shack building custodian, Enlisted Spouses Group not to mention disgruntled home economics teachers in the Tri-State area.

100% agree about the picture idea but therein lies another problem; that awesome stash. Being out of regs/AFI/WTF-ever they would never put that picture up. Combined with the fact he's in a bag not ABU/BDU/blues. For that matter I remember seeing Robin's picture in wing HQ at Kunsan back in 1992 and he was in 1505's and stashless. Even his own wing had turned its back on his stash. Robin's book needs to be mandatory reading for all Airman/NCOs/officers. But that's just my 2 cents and I'm retired and don't have deal with this stupidity anymore.

That... was fvcking awesome!

WTF? OK, for the benefit of the guy who wore a hockey helmet but wasn't on the team, this change would only affect those folks currently on active duty am I correct? Us already retired guys should be "safe".... right? Why do they always seem to go after the military? Easy target to garner public support "cutting defense" and so forth (of course the $$ is then funneled into entitlement programs). Why is it that we never hear about them cutting/messing with retirement for other federal gov't retirees? Is it because they are civilians or the unions would have s sh*t fit? What??? Granted the DoD probably retires more folks in one month than the Depts. State, Interior and Transportation put together. EDIT: Lack of spelling skills.

Awesome noob post, you'll fit in here just fine. Give that man a Klondike Bar out of petty cash.

Which we all know is the pathway to citizenship. Carry on Starship Trooper! I keed, I keed. Both mine are grown and still spot jets at a distance "Hey dad, check it out, a C-17!" or "What's that F-18 doing here? Must be an EF-18 Growler out of Whidby on a cross country. Cool." Damn fine kids.

Question: Never been to Charlie's, Altus, or anywhere in Oklahoma for that matter, but in my 24 years I never understood why SVS would shut down a place that pours money into the NAF coffers. Why would the SVS/CC's and their minions past and present want to do something like that? Is it due to it's favor with the OPS crowd and not shoes and other non-sortie producing types? I guess it would have to go along with somethng like this.... "That place/thing/activity is entirely to popular, someone's going to get hurt/arrested/DUI'd and that's not going on my record, we can't have that. Shut it down; it's for the greater good/force protection/insert feeble BS excuse here" WTF Anyone.... anyone... Bueller...
