  1. If you are referring to fatal crash that was not the case at all, report is on AFSAS.
  2. Doesn’t mean you won’t get screwed. Ask the 15-13/14/15 dudes.
  3. FWIW, When I saw that T-1 on the screen at track select one of my first positive thoughts was “well at least I’ll never do a ELP again” Joke was on me, I’m now 2/2 on being assigned aircraft with one engine. I think we have two valid points here, we spent a hell of a lot of time doing them in UPT, and that time could have been more focused on building other skills that would more likely apply in day to day aviation. On the other hand, it was a great airmanship builder, and it was a challenging task that you needed to demonstrate you had the ability to learn the task at hand in a given amount of time to pass. Probably could have made it a item you needed to demonstrate the ability to do before the end of the contact block but didn’t have to do on a checkride. I see no reason a student that is allowed to area solo and do advance aero alone shouldn’t also be expected to at least attempt to recover a engine out jet in glide back range. If they mess it up, sure punch no questions asked, soon as you realize you can’t make it, and if you dead stick it in as a student the squadron will meet you at the jet will top gun music blaring and high fives. If the drone bros are practicing them and expected to land a engine out robot plane we should probably expect our youngins with their ass on the line to at least give it a shot.
  4. Disclaimer: I have no idea how long a 11F syllabus is. Your average RPA pilot (18x) gets about 3 months of T-6 instrument SIMs and about 30 events (sims+”flights”) in a MQ-9 to be CMR. Keeping in mind that is basic transit procedures, basic ISR/CAS, and with the autopilot hold modes always on. No formation, no takeoff/landing, and not ever putting their ass on the line Take a average ish UPT grad or heavy cross flow dude and throw them in a LA program and I would say 30-40 flights and another 30 or so of SIMs would probably get you in the ball park. Assumption being they have a good basic pilot back ground, a CSO in the back running the sensors/mission set, and a expierenced Flight lead.
  5. I’ve promoted the RPA expierenced dudes on this forum before, but they are getting more scarce. Most of them are 11m guys getting pulled back to their airframe, some have recat to 11U and haven’t been in a cockpit for a long time, and some were dudes that got kicked out of prior communities and probably shouldn’t be in a jet. There was a time period a bunch of 38 dudes went U-28s and CV-22s, I know a couple that are mid level Capt types, but to my knowledge those airframes aren’t exactly in a position to release bodies. Most plausible answer is probably to open up the assignment to anyone with wings, don’t place them at Cannon, and my guess would be enough people would volunteer to fly this beast with a variety of back grounds you could take a couple from all over without killing one community. That makes to much sense though, so they will all be at Cannon, they with drop orders on 11Fs to fly them, who will all 7 day opt.
  6. They all left the AF to fly for the airlines or be Space Force space shuttle door gunners. For real dude, call the unit, use google if you are a civilian, or global if you are already in. No one is going to say anything more than what you can find on google on the interwebs. Things are that way for a reason.
  7. What do you mean? The rules are fairly straight forward now. If you show up to interview (or to any military recruitment center) with a Mike Tyson face tattoo they are going to show you the door. (99% of civilian companies are as well) You want to fly airplanes? Keep the tats off the face, hands and neck. That leaves you with 95% of your body you can get tatted up. No one military wise is going to give a shit if you have your back tatted up as long as it doesn’t show on the neck I have several tats including a half sleeve and some forarm work, I would say 40-50 % of the guys at work also have tats in various places. It’s prettt common and the new guidance is very reasonable.
  8. Google “Air Force Tattoo Policy” The 25% thing has been rescinded, you can cover as much as you want except the coulple areas listed below, as long as it’s not “offensive” “Tattoos are not completely disqualifying, however. There are no size or area limitations for authorized tattoos on the chest (below an open collar), back, arms, and legs. Tattoos, brands, and body markings are prohibited on the head, neck, face, tongue, lips, and scalp.”
  9. So we will buy 20, they will go to a single unit or something like the 6th SOS, they will fly them for 6.9 years, and much like the C-27/RC-26/MC-12 they will be transferred to OGA or boarder/coastal state ANG. They will fly them for 6-9 years until that unit gets MQ-9s, the LA will be mothballed and the AF can say they tried the LA experiment but it just wasn’t (fill in buzz word statement here). Another great opertunity pissed away.
  10. Option A. Quit before they kick you out. Drink beer and chase women. Graduate. Join the guard. Profit Option B. Quit before they kick you out. Drink beer and chase women. Graduate. Get required qualifications and get hired by a airline. Profit. Option C. Combine A and B.
  11. Also still waiting for official notification. I did get rips for training though.
  12. For those of us who don’t fly with rockets under the seat, is this referring to pulling the seat pin or is there another “arming” function? All I remember from my T-6 days are the ISS and the pins.
  13. Thread revival. I’m a active duty pilot, been stuck Clovis and my allergies absolutely kill me every fall. The standard Claritin/Allegra/eye drops just aren’t cutting it. Anyone have any luck getting the allergy shots immunotherapy? It’s most deff seasonal allergies in this area, if I go TDY/deploy I immediately feel better. Im a little nervous to go to flight med, I’ve been stuck in drone land for awhile and I’m about to return to fly/PCS. I can suck it up for another fall but I’m remaining in AFSOC, odds are I will be back to the Clovistan at some point in the future.
  14. How about no more PT uniform. Just wear your civilian gym clothes, or you’re grandpa jeans and kitty ear hat. No one gives a shit. One less thing to dig out of the closet for the annual pt test or ‘stan deployment.
  15. Just as good as I showed your mom!!!! Ha
  16. Was there last year, it was god awful. Chief got his panties in a wad because I wore my MASSIF jacket over my PT outfit to the gym at 7am, it probably 35 degrees out. Apparently the CENTCOM reg only authorized the GORTEX over the PT outfit. I’m a pilot, only brought my flight approved jacket, so I kept doing it. Apparently it turned into 6 hour meeting with the SNCOs debating the topic. Meanwhile they had huge influx of people coming the next week and no where to feed or house them. It’s no surprise how Fd we are, 6 hours because of one material jacket vs another. Why in the f did we even have to wear PT gear anyway? Chief said it’s becasuse we are “in a war zone”. some how the contractors were just fine wearing regular non reflective clothing to the gym. Oh and comm SSGT that thought I was a A1C and tried yelling at me for the untucked shirt while running, something about wartime and how great of a NCO he was being. It didn’t end well for him when I informed him I was a officer F*ck KAF
  17. What a douche. He would have lost most of us anyway, only reason many of us didn’t get “chronic headaches/conscious object/fail 6.9 PT tests” was the promise to return to fly. First group of us got assignments a couple months ago, I won’t believe it until I’m back in a cockpit but at least the AF seems to be following through. Cautionary tail to the young guys, if you want to fly for the AF, do it for the guard. AD will try to stick it to ya every chance they get.
  18. I want to say about a year ago. These UPT RPA drops seems suspicious to me, briefing last week had ACC manning at 100% +
  19. Yes, not sure on the numbers though. No knowledge of these rumored recent RPA drops but there is a bottleneck at Randolph, and empty slots at the FTU. They just need dudes with wings to fill them. AFPC did say about 2 months ago all the 11s that didn’t recat to 11U were to be back manned by the end of 2019, so par for course, AFPC lied.
  20. In all honesty I don’t think it’s a horrible idea but I think it’s to aggressive for a new program. 30 T-6 hours does seem pretty low. I think we can all agree that some things just have to be learned in the plane. I would have made it a 9 month ish syllabus, keeping most of the current T-6 program but transitioning it to be more in the SIM/VR/new tech thing they have going on. With a lot less wx/mx cancels because most of it is in the sim you could knock that out in 4.5 months. Then transition the other 4.5 months to a similar T-38/T-X program with some IFF stuff.
  21. Projected 35 training days/51 TDY days, out and back from current location. Also a outback from current location for SERE. U-28s to Hurlburt. (My number 2 of 30 ish choices, I’ll give it to AFPC, seems like they really tried to get everyone in my group something in their top 5). That is kinda what I am leaning toward. Wife is anxious to GTFO out of Clovis, especially knowing at some point we will probably be back. Trying to look at all the options.

    Gun Talk

Agreed on harbor freight. Their tools aren’t “the best of the best by the men’s room” for professionals that use them daily, but for that tool you need every now and then they have great products. Ill say the same for PSA. They have good stuff for range fun at a decent price but I’ve had some minor issues with their stuff, as well as several close friends. I wouldn’t bet my life on a harbor freight tool or a PSA gun/part, but they have good deals for “weekend warriors”.
  23. So to keep things short, I was a UPT direct to RPAs, I have been “notified” by my commander of my manned follow on assignment, as well as the other first 30 UPT directs from the 2015/16 UPT/RPA fuckery. It basically worked like a FAIP drop. Only “official” notification we have gotten so far is our T-1 refresher dates. Nothing on Vmpf. I would say it’s the equilivant of a UPT stud getting there assignment on assignment night and waiting for orders. Does that CC notification count that the order will be issued? I would much rather my family be out of the shithole that is eastern NM and at our follow location closer to civilization and family.
  24. A quick question after few to many alcoholic beverages and nothing from the search function and too lazy to scan the JFTR while buzzed. A upcoming PCS has most likely been delayed for my family for 4-6 months, and we are going from a pretty shitty location to a pretty nice location. If I buy i house at our new location and move the family down ahead of time (before our PCS orders, and full DITY) can I still get reimbursed or is that a violation of the JTR since we didn’t have orders when I moved the family?
  25. Just long enough to dangle the carrot to get you to stay in, then deny your application, send you on a 365/staff tour/(fill in bullshit job here)
