If your dream is to fly you make the money thing work, don't pass up the opportunity to achieve your dream for money. I knew guard/reserve guys at UPT that had enough debt from school/flying to buy a nice house. Every single one said it was 100% worth it, and now make way more than me in their civilian jobs.

I can't speak to what is in the future but I can tell you that sitting in a box playing with a computer screen 7,000 miles from the flight compared to the pure fking awesomeness of flying a manned aircraft is what is wrong with it. Ya sure, someone has to do it. It can be you. I would much rather experience that kick in the pants when you push the power up for t/o, that feeling you get right when you rotate, or the view out a real wind shield at 40,000 ft. And the fact you enjoy URT. Sitting in class 8 hours a day is pure adrenaline.

Just got non vol to RPAs right out of UPT. If you want to fly, love life, and be a airline dude take the Reserve gig, run for hills and never look back. If you want to work out of a box in the desert at 1g for the next 6+ years keep the RPA gig. Looking back I would have killed a dude for that Reserve slot. Just saying.

Suposidly the CSAF signed a memo guaranteeing us a manned aircraft after this assignment. We were suppose to have said memo in hand with all the details in it "later this week". It's been 2 months. No one has any idea about the details of this assignment, 3 years? 4 years etc. MPF has no idea (more than usual) how our training and orders should be written, TDY, PCS TDY en route, PCS then TDY, I leave for the B course in a few weeks. I'll happily take my assignment and move on, UPT was a awesome expierence, and knowing the outcome I would do it all over. I however will not believe they will sending us back to manned aircraft until I'm strapped in an actual cockpit.

MI-17 was a ALP student. They did not go through T-1s. There was 2 AD U.S. 38 studs. 1 was DQ medically half way through.

I bought the Glock 42 for the wife. I wanted to get the XDS but she preferred the feel of the Glock and the mild recoil of the .380. I ended up loving the gun and carry it more than her. It's small in my hands without the mag extender but with the extender it's more comfortable. We've put about 500 rounds of shitty ammo through it, accurate and only one round jammed, and I blame the cheap ammo. I would have preferred the 9mm 43 but they didn't start selling it until a few months after we bought the 42.

Assignment night is 3 weeks out for me. Have yet to see this "memo". As of yesterday the guys who dropped last week have yet to see it either. We were told we should have it in our hands in 2, 3 days tops, that was about a month ago.

Guard RPA.....Any Chance of UPT?
viper154 replied to Basspilot's topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
CBM guy was hired to fly a aircraft, his unit lost the jet and only has Reapers. -
You can get the waiver to get BAH at your home location and you will live in the dorms. Several guys in my class are currently doing it.

Wing Commander briefing to class 15-13 and 15-14 at all 3 UPT bases a couple hours ago. Leadership is waiting on a memo with details.
-
It's now official. RPAs will begin to be dropped to active duty UPT students. 6 RPAs per class, 2 per base, starting with 15-13s assignment night in 3 weeks.

As a crosstown I drank way more beer, studied half as much, and had way more fun than the host school dudes. There will be plenty of kool aid to drink for the next 15 years of your life. Don't get to caught up in the impressing your cadre and being better than everyone else business. Show up, do your best, be a bro, and make as many friends with your classmates as possible. -
Almost every house has a garage at Columbus. Only ones that don't are the temporary houses. Capitol has 1 stall garage on almost every house. The other 2 villages I think have a combo of 1 and 2 stall garages. Married students are mixed in all 3. Depends on your luck. Currently posting from my house on Columbus and my wife's car is currently in our garage.

Some friends still in rotc said that the system has changed as far as automatically going active duty. They have some sort of new program where you can commission and just serve a couple years in the Inactive Ready Reserve or get hired by a guard/reserve unit. Might be worth looking into. Be careful though. They could change that in a heart beat and you could get stuck in a non rated career forced going AD. AF is real good at being indecisive as a 16 yr old girl getting dressed to go on a date.

Granite is spot on. Study Study Study. I am just average dude with 0 hours that made it through without to much issue. Chill on Friday night, put a couple hours in on Saturday working and most of Sunday afternoon and night. Most the people I saw wash out didn't study much or didn't study with others. IFS is only 3 or 4 weeks, but it's like sprinting 100% all the time, UPT is more of marathon where those weekend breaks are what's going to keep you sane. Edited for poor English skills

Information on PCS/moves/moving (DITY, TMO, DLA, storage)
viper154 replied to SUX's topic in General Discussion
Should be fine. I believe I weighed my vehicles a couple days before my orders to move. -
Short answer is yes. While the black is not "testable" it is fair game on your check ride. While I don't know anyone who hooked for not knowing a black ops limit you look good when you know them. Tire pressures were a popular one when I was there about 6 months ago.

Not advised. You could graduate a week early or several weeks late. You will have zero time during the week unless you are rock star pilot or don't give a f and fail.

Enrollment Allocation. Essentially it's a slot to go to field training for rotc folks. Can't commission without going, usually between sophomore and junior year. Getting harder and harder to get one.
-
Permanent party gets priority. Other than that I think you take a number and get in line. You also don't need orders to get on the wait list. Long as you can provide some sort of document that says your coming to CBM. I did not know this until a few days ago. Would have been useful info to me over a year ago. I was searching this thread earlier today for gun stores and someone else provided that little hint several years ago. Don't make my mistake and wait for orders.
-
Get on the wait list now. I've been on since December and still haven't gotten offered a on base house. Talked to the office two weeks ago when I got here, still had another 45-60 day wait. I decided on a off base place just north of town. Plenty of houses that allow dogs in the $1000 TO $1200 range that are under a 10 minute commute if you decided to go that route. My worthless 2Lt stud opinion, if you can get on base go for it.

To my knowledge ENJJPT is prob your best bet for leaving sooner. I know two bros commissioned in May, one EAD'd the day after he graduated. The other left about a month after he graduated both went ENJJPT. Everyone that I know who went to Vance or Laughlin was EAD within two months of graduation. Columbus however is a different story. I know one guy who left for CBM within 2 months of graduation, I am expected to EAD January, 7 months after graduation, there is a group of us all going to CBM on facebook, I would say 40-50 who have assorted dates from October to May.That being said, if you want ENJJPT, from my VERY VERY limited knowledge you will EAD similar time if you chose Vance or Laughlln. I would stay from CBM if you want a early EAD. Disclaimer-I have no actual accurate info on how backed up each base is, just my knowledge of some bros who have all gone to UPT/ENJJPT within the last several months. Hope this helps.
