Information on PCS/moves/moving (DITY, TMO, DLA, storage)
viper154 replied to SUX's topic in General Discussion
I did a full DITY a few months ago. I didn’t notice anything “tightened down” from the other partial ditys ive done in the past. Just needed weight tickets and receipts. I know you said you aren’t looking to make money but you could probably pocket 5-8 grand doing it yourself. I know several people that pack up the small stuff/boxes themselves and hire people to load the boxes/furniture in a rental truck. I think my last neighbor had 13,000 lbs, I believe the hired help was about $700 to load and $800 to unload. I had 12,000lbs, 26ft UHUAL was $1600 for 1200 miles, $400 ish in gas. Bought a one way plane ticket back to drive my truck with trailer/motorcycle. Total I spent about $4500 on rentals, gas, boxes, plane ticket etc, got reimbursed something like $8000 +DLA/per diem and all that. It was a pain in the ass but was a nice influx of cash. Oh and nothing got broke/damaged/lost and I didn’t have to wait 2 weeks to get my shit delivered. -
Commanders are dropping like flies this year

We had the “Make Africa Great Again” shirts, same base as the 318th. Got away with them for almost 2 years before they got banned. -
60 Minutes Segment on 2014 B-1 Friendly Fire in Afghanistan

I’m not talking A-10 level, but it most certainly can be effective. Most of the MQ IQT course is centered around 9 line CAS. Granted, that is mostly for a building block for the bastardized way they typically utilize a 9 line, but any MQ-9 crew most certainly can do traditional CAS, and they have been since the -1s first got hellfires 15 years ago. Not arguing, I’m a former drone guy, I’ve worked enough with the bombers in the stack to get a taste of the challenges that bombers have delivering weapons danger close. Bombers have been utilized for pretty much the entirety GWOT, with a fairly high success rate. While a bomber is probably not your best choice for CAS for a variety of reasons it most certainly can put warheads on foreheads if the guys on th e ground need it. -

If you can conduct CAS from a box in Creech you can do it in a B-1. With just the info from the story, the JTAC passed bad/confusing grids. That’s the root cause. I’m guessing the crew trusted the JTAC to much/wanted to help asap and didn’t question the confusing/wrong grids. Seeing IR strobes would have probably helped the crew realize they had bad grids but it’s not why these guys died. Lot of similarities to the AC-130 incident with the doctor without boarders incident in the ‘Stan. If you fly something that makes things go boom and don’t think you could get caught up in the heat of battle and make a mistake you are dead ass wrong. Just like the Swiss cheese analogy for aircraft mishaps these frat incidents can be looked at the same way. And ya, shame on CBS, run this story another week, so many better stories they could report on for Memorial Day weekend. -
I would say spouse career falls under the broader category of family stability, and for me, family stability is #2 on my list of reasons to leave. I’m not complaining, my family knows what we signed up for, but it is a contributing factor for my reasons to leave.

2 cents from a non fighter, former drone, current AFSOC guy, so take it for what it’s worth. The drone technology just isn’t there yet. For what we would invest we (aviators as a whole) would get much better and relevant training allocating that money towards more flight hours, glass cockpits, simulators, red air, exercises, new aircraft, aircraft upgrades, etc. Our current fleet of drones can’t even defend itself, and have a hard enough time staying at the right spot/altitude in the stack. I think 5th Gen drone advisories are something our grandchildren might face/fly, but in today’s world and current budget we have higher priorities.

TDY for PIT, yes. The RPA school at Randolph is a PCS, most their guys are brand new Lts that need a first base. I think some the guard/reserve guys and late rates got it to be a TDY. Something might have changed, I never went through the RPA schoolhouse, and I left drones for a real cockpit again last year so my info may be dated.
-
AD guys aren’t TDY to Randolph (for the most part) so It’s just however much more BAH is for San Antonio than the UPT bases. I left RPAs last year but there was a heavy emphasis of making IQT SIM only, which would also cut costs.

U-28 pipeline for pilots is backed up, CSOs however are in demand, couple started class a few weeks ago that graduated nav school 10 ish days prior.

I think his point is... or at least what I got out of his story is that it looks like there was a good chance he was definitely being profiled and if that was the case, HTF did the drug testing people know of his medical records? That is HIPAA stuff right there. I was put under and had a screw put in on Thursday, went to work on Monday and got popped. I had to go to a off base provider out of town because the shithole town I was in didn’t have a specialist, so in no way did my doc on base have a record of this surgery or prescription. I told my leadership before I left to pee that I had a legal prescription from my off base doc and I was going to pop positive, and I doubt that the base had my records for this yet, just to CYA. They just said go for it. I told the pee test lady my situation and she said if someone pops positive they compare what’s in your system to current medical records, if you have things in your system from recent surgeries/current prescribed meds then you are g2g. Moral of the story, they most certainly can access your medical records.

The problem is, where has that been the last 10 years? PA puts out bs bush league videos about A1C snuffies contributions to “fill in the blank retarded snowflake day” or how much of hard charger the finance dude is that looses my paperwork, all the while stiff arming the ops guys that actually put warheads on foreheads/hack all the other cool/war required missions. God forbid we recognize that pilots and real world missions are more important than some 9-5 paper pushers feelings. How many official AF videos have you seen of kick ass flying? Few if none. It’s sad the best flying videos are from UPT studs/bros in the ops squadrons with a go pro posted to YouTube. Its a cool video, I appreciate the effort, not being sarcastic, but it’s the equivalent of being offered a band aid after falling into a industrial meat grinder.

Hmmm.. i dunno. I guess I need to be schooled on all the different kinds and what is authorized. Not sure what I tried on. I believe the jacket was MASSIF and I saw MASSIF pants, but didnt tey those. Are they authorized for flight? The winter jackets and pants are. They have a two piece flight suit as well. Last I checked Wright Pat was working to approve the flight suit for flight but that was a year + ago. Biggest issue is the price. The jackets are $550 a pop, the regular issue 2 pieces are $300, MASSIF flight suit is $500. I think they are worth it but my unit bought it for us.
-
Like a new green bag, they need to be broken in properly. I’m not a huge fan of the regular top, pen pockets suck for pushing up sleeves. MASSIF combat shirts are money though. Once the bottoms get broken in and soft they feel like a cozy pair of light sweat pants. I love the MASSIF winter jackets. They break the wind and are comfy in a wide range of temps.

I’ve said it before in another uniform thread, and it was kinda said above. Give people a option. It’s not that big of deal. Different strokes for different folks. Little cold outside and want to rock your A2? Bag it up. Pulling 9g and don’t want a G suit pressing a zipper in your leg? Bag it. Stationed in the south in the summer or deployed with shitty a/c in your work building, 2 piece it up and take off the top. Much like ground dudes (especially the special operators) choose their kit, there is no real reason we shouldn’t choose what works best for us to preform our professional duties.

I really know a lot less than I should about FAA ratings, but I was a T-6/T-1 guy, I got a commercial, multi engine, instrument with a BE-400 type.
-
Ya what was said above. Most the UPT bases have a dude that does the testing/paperwork the day after you graduate. You pay a fee, they teach you the commercial test, you take the test, a few weeks later you get your license in the mail. T-1 guys get a multi engine commercial, I believe 38s get the same now. Not sure about the whirlybird guys.

I got one for a great deal last year. I love it as a plinking gun that’s cheap to shoot. I’ve also used it as a super cheap training gun for moving while firing and some other other drills. It’s a great 90% training solution/cheap to shoot. I probably average one or two misfires or failure to fully eject per mag, almost every time it’s when I am rapidly firing and I use what ever cheap crap ammo that’s in my stock pile. Might annoy some people but I look at it as good real life practice clearing the problem in my drills.

It was emailed/announced that they were trying to start one up probably 12-18 months ago. Intially it was just a ground school. That was the first and last I ever heard anything about it. I PCSd a few months ago so maybe it’s moving forward now. Holloman had a aero club when I was there back in 2016, no idea if it’s still open

That’s actually rather impressive. I guess if he is disbursing his meals/mileage money on it it’s prob fine, you could probably justify it without to much suspicion. I would be careful of intentionally overpaying money out of his checking account and holding a negative balance though. Eventually it’s going to raise a eyebrow at some level, best case he gets told to knock it off, worse case it starts a Miley Gate 2.0 situation. I’m sure some GS/OSI/legal would have a wet dream trying to fry him for it for abuse of his card. Government don’t like when you mess with their $$$. Probably in everyone’s best interest to tell him it’s not a good idea and advise him of other ways to hide a stripper fund. *edit, as I re read your post, I guess if he is just withdrawing his mileage/meals as soon as the voucher pays and saving it for a rainy day it’s fine. As said above, just paying extra ATM fees.
-
I would hope they would at least give you a few days notice. I don’t stress about the PT test but I avoid eating certain meals the night before and have a light breakfast. God forbid they popped me for a random PT test and I had the Mexican supreme meal #7 for dinner the night before or picked up a breakfast burrito with my morning cup of Joe. I would make it about 200 yards before I dropped my swishy shorts and called “weapons away” and “splash one”. Not to mention I tend to be a little errrrr “dehydrated” on Monday’s during football season when I’m not flying.

T shirts, patches, Zaps, Coozies, coffee mugs, “remove before flight” keychains with our airplane on the back. I believe we had some coins and lithos, they are hard to make money on though. Our base hosted the Airshow so they were very anal about making sure our booster clubs had all the bs paperwork in order and aduted to be able to sell stuff. I don’t think they gave a shit about the jets/units that flew in. We just ordered extra stuff of what we already sold at the unit. If you have metal squadron water bottles I’m sure that is fine but the vendors have some sort agreement about only them selling food/water though. We didn’t advertise that we had extra water but we left our coolers in sight behind the booth, many people offered to “donate” a couple bucks for a water, doing our part in keeping up community relations we gladly obliged.

Agree with above comments. Make her get own mortgage. If she fights it offer to let her keep the equity to help with a new down payment. Shows you are willing to work with her and you can use that to leverage against spousal/child support or to get another asset you want. Sucks because you are going to loose money short term but it’s hell of a lot better than paying a mortgage for a house for her to live in when she can’t make payments. The only thing you ever want to have to talk her about after this is over is the kids.

They are my favorite approved (and issued to me) flight boot. I was also issued the Solomon XA forces GTX boots that I am in love with. They are much more of a hiking boot/shoe and have the quick pull no tie lace thing. They are coyote though and barely above the ankle, so they look retarded in the traditional green bag, they are all I wear in OCPs though. Not flight approved but several flying units at the two AFSOC bases I have been at in the last year have bought/issued them.
-
Rocky S2Vs, order a wide size. They got put back on the flight approved list last year. The flight approved ones aren’t the warm weather ones though. (I don’t think, my sage green ones are much warmer and thicker than my brown ones, my feet get hot pretty quick). But other than that they are comfy.
