  1. So I was having problems too from the AD side trying to log in from out of country. I turned on the VPN to the U.S. and the problem went away. Possible solution? I don't know how many of you are out of country.
  2. Anyone know of the ramifications of marking the box "I am not interested in school right now" on your 3849? I just did that because I'm currently on a 365, and a prior at the 19 year mark. Not ready to commit to another three years just this second. I put that down as my reason as well.
  3. The wife and I keep our airplanes and gliders in a hanger out in Moriarty. Have an apartment built into the hanger with beer taps coming out of the wall. Pretty much our idea of the perfect vacation home. Suggest looking at Edgewood/Cedar Crest area, I can give you the name of a great realtor if you want to live in the East Mountains. Love New Mexico and the surrounding ABQ area, and where we plan to retire. IMHO, ABQ is a great town to "Go into", but I would not personally choose to live there. Let me know, and I can put you in touch with a retired Colonel/Nam POW out there who loves helping AF dudes out with getting settled. You going to the Safety Center?
  4. OK Jarhead fair enough. Part 91 and single engine ops have no "Special inspections". (Warbirds) This lady is still talking out of her ass.
  5. No, there are not any special inspections above and beyond meeting the regulations. This lady was the head of the DOT for a few years in the 90's, and now is a lawyer who sues airlines and private pilots for wrongful death and property damage.
  6. CNN's "Expert" aviation analyst: "Expert: Dangerous plane The crash probably has less to do with the pilot and more with the plane, said CNN aviation analyst Mary Schiavo. The older the plane, the more likely it is to crash, she said. "As the years go on, they get a lot more dangerous." "They need very special care," and aviation laws proscribe their flying parameters. "You have to follow a special aging aircraft protocol," Schiavo said. But she complimented Ford's move. He set the unpowered plane up for a good glide, she said. Ford also drives a vintage car, a late model Jaguar convertible, which he has often been photographed in."
  7. The golf course manager immediately asked him to please replace his divot.
  8. Thanks, dfresh! I wasn't going to complain, then I though that could be bad if one were trying to get new traffic to the site. We need another Timmy!
  9. 12M. For the Nav on the 135????? They have like four of them at Wichita, right?
  10. I wonder if it just an iPad thing??? I'd try on an iPhone, but mine found a new home in a cab in Dubai.
  11. Type "flying squadron forums" into search bar. Google results will come up. Click on the obvious link to the base ops forums. Tell me if I'm the only one who gets redirected to random sights?
  12. Checks
  13. Obviously the President needs a new plane in order to continue to supervise the execution of our flawless foreign policies...
  14. Same here. W2 not available. Currently on AD and deployed. Maybe they just like f**king the guys who really can't do anything about it.
  15. This checks. Old Skool AF term for a one stripe Airmen- "Mosquito Stripes" or "Mosquito Wings". IE: "Man, did you see that hot blonde in CBPO with mosquito stripes? I'd love to get with her, check her 35-10 and play the sport of kings".
  16. Humph. I kept getting a "File not found" when I tried the first one, so I went digging.

  18. OK fair enough. Valid point. So if I want to at least beat the rate of inflation, is a Roth the way to go? I know I'm looking at a 10 year investment schedule at least. I'm by no means a "high roller", but I'm fairly sure that having that money languishing in a savings account would not beat inflation either. So I guess I should modify my question to ask "what's the best way to beat inflation, and what are the associated risks"?
  19. So, this thread tends to make my eyes water. I'm the type who likes to invest my pay checks in hookers and blow, because that always holds its value... However, my grandmother recently passed and left us with around $100k in a life insurance policy. So, I'm looking to all you smart folks out there. Since I am currently deployed to Afghanistan for 7 more months, is there a good way to parlay that money into something awesome? Not into risky investments at all...
  20. Good read here: "no good men amongst the living". It gives you a picture of the Afghan point of view prior to 9/11 to the mid 2000's when people were getting rolled up nightly. Condensed version: Afghan A wants money and goods. Afghan B wants the same. Afghan Bs only advantage is that he speaks English, so he tells the Americans that "A" is a bad guy. Afghan "A" gets rolled up for a trip to Bagrahm or Cuba. Competition eliminated. A very good book for shifting perspective.
  21. Holy BUFF, Batman!
  22. https://www.cnn.com/2014/12/10/world/senate-torture-report-world-reaction/index.html?hpt=hp_t2 Anyone want to touch this one? My preliminary thoughts: If true, I'm disturbed that we would stoop to this level. It also guarantees that no captured U.S. citizen will be treated even semi-humanely when captured for a long time. OTOH, if it gave us good intel to get some bad guys, then more power to 'em. Additionally: Anyone notice that the two Dr's running the camps were the ones who designed USAF SERE school?
  23. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vniBBT7nRJg This is this years.
  24. Agree. AF band is at least manned with people in a designated career field, unlike TIB who takes away much needed people from other careers and sends them on a one year jazz hand tour. Props go out to those guys. (They do their own set up and tear down, BTW)
