Fixed, since we're being all technical and shit. Next, an argument will break out over the term "assault." Cheaper than Dirt won't sell to NY? I am very surprised by that, seeing as they are a leader in internet price increases and in my opinion, taking advantage of the situation to make as much money as they can. That is why I choose to shop elsewhere. Their choice in pricing, my choice in who I buy from.

C-130H Total Force Integration
disgruntledemployee replied to noumenon's topic in General Discussion
Umteen million ESPs for low pitch stops, takes forever to get off the LRF zone, loves to call themselves the "Super Hercules" when calling on common upon entering the SR route, can't do a no-flap for training, tells you that you oversped anything by 1 knot, minus 2 thinking brains in the front end, and still let a lowly E model beat all of them at the last Rodeo. Sorry, back on topic. spinner is correct on points 1-3, at least until the AF pulls another krazy Ivan. Out -
C-130H Total Force Integration
disgruntledemployee replied to noumenon's topic in General Discussion
Talk to your unit if you want the straight up skinny. Or we can make shit up for you just like the AF is making this shit up as we go along. Break Break This LR "transition" aka shit storm is a product of reaction and forcing hands versus well thought out planning and implementation. Its a great peek into the AD-ANG-AFRC infighting/passiveness that often occurs but we don't often see. In the end, ANG will get what they wanted (in the Herk world) and not lose any planes (at least according to AF Lies) and gets a misison to some of those C-27 bases. Ft Smith positions will likely move to LR so that is a win for the state, but a loss for the A-10 world (I mean really, A-10s and Razorbacks go hand in hand). The big loss is 53d deactivating and the 50th going to half strength. After absorbing Dyess peeps and with other TFI units/Yokota at high manning levels, there isn't anywhere else to go for 1.5 sqs worth other than outside the Herk. Poor timing if you were a new Herkster in UPT, just graduated, or even already in the schoolhouse. Any older Herkster looking to come back will likely have to wait in line or look elsewhere. In the meantime, there is still a wartime mission and as was demonstrated with Iraq, Herk will be there in force to cleaned it out (with a little help from Strat). Get ready to absorb some shock as AF closes down 1.5 squadrons in no time. Out -
The point is exactly that. There are people, yes even in the military, that will do this and justify it somehow. The dude will say, "I wasn't lying...Bob is a boy and he is my friend, what's wrong with that?" "Why does everything have to be about sex?" Meanwhile they're carrying out their "open" relationship with a few ladies. Next, will be healthcare. Then spousal SGLI. Then 9/11 GI Bill educational benefits. Then death benfits. But hey, who am I to complain, I'm just a bitter angry little man. Enjoy the slide down the slope. Out

So what's to keep a couple of dudes or ladies from walking up to DoD, "declaring" a partnership and asking for bennies? If gov't keeps bending to the few, everyone will point it out, call foul, and gov't looks silly trying to defend. Out

If something like this is passed, I don't see it automatically making every military person instantaneoulsy approved to carry. One would have to make the conscious act to apply for what I will now call the "Federal CCL." Often, those that apply for CCLs have used firearms beyond the minimum training the military has provided. And if someone wants to levy more training, I'm sure some govt buracrat bueracrat bearucrat employee can spin up a CBT or 499 PPT slide deck to fill in any gaps. I wonder if they will issue badges to go with it? I'd make a T-shirt with that. Out

I went for the Ruger SR22 when it came to getting a plinker pistol and for initiating pistol training/fam for the kids. It comes with 2 grips, one for smaller hands like the kids and one for the bigger kids like me and the wife. It handled Remington and Federal bulk 22 rounds without issue. I wanted to get a variety of high velocity and subsonic to try out just to see how it does, but the shelves are bare. As for using to show the kids how to use pistols, I like that it has an external hammer, safety/decocking lever, SA/DA...basically like an M9. Out the door at the BX for $299. I looked at Walther but I was not impressed with their alloy slide. Out

Feel the heat? If you read my post in "Making Better Leaders," I shared the following point: There is one recipe that has shown itself to work more often than not when it comes to getting promotion. 1. Know the game: Masters ASAP, PME when eligible ASAP, volunteer for each and every big additional duty from CFC to AF Ball. These are the elements of DPs and higher points on the promotion boards. You, my man, are playing this exact game. Some dick on a promotion board will see your scheme and think that somehow in this Gods green grass and blue sky earth that you are a better leader than everyone else and award you some secret extra points. Your peers, on the other hand, will see you as a scheming douche, as noted by some of my collegues postings above. Out

Alright Mr Playr, for the record, one last time loud and clear. I'll even number the points for you. 1. I am not telling anyone what to do or not do with their career, job, or life after the military. I merely tell a story. If you don't like it, don't read it. 2. The original topic of this post, as stated by the title, is growing better leaders. This implies that we have a bunch that suck. 3. From #3 above, I shared some thoughts on why we have a bit much of those "not so good" leaders. This comes from seeing, living, and hearing of various leaders. For example, search for the "leader" John McDonald that was fired at Pope a few years ago. Yep, one of the leaders I know and reference. 4. Then, on the issue of why people may stay in and deal with the BS, perhaps they like some of the cool shit they do. Hence, why I alluded to the mindless airline life a pilot might take while protraying a dude in a white shirt, getting the ATIS, and monitoring George fly the ILS. Whoopee, real exicting. 5. You take some of my comments personally, decide that I'm mad and angry, and thus you take personal shots. That's fine, this is the Al Gore al jezerra interweb where anonymity is like courage. Maybe you didn't like my pointed words against your view on women in combat. One thing you might have noticed is that I have not said to shut up Nav. That is because I actually like real Navs. I've seen them get out, I've seem them take command (some sucked and were examples in my previous post, some were great and made a difference), and I've seen them stay in and do just enough to keep chugging along, whatever their motivations. So now that we are at a common understanding, let me summarize. The reason we have a bunch of crappy leaders is a product of the system in place. Out

You said you didn't understand why people don't fight and I gave you a plausible rationale as to why. Your training wheels are barely off, which is why I said that its no surprise you don't get it, not that you think like that. Go write a few PRFs and you may start getting some ideas as to why people think like that. Watch some really good dudes get fucked over, then you will see the light. In rebuttal to your points A-C above: A. I don't care what is out there. You asked why people stay in and not fight the bullshit. B. That one went right over your head. Its not about just flying planes. Its about the military way of life vs the civilian way of life. Flying for someone else is not really the same as flying in the military. I'm fairly certain that most aviators are aware that there are companies in the world that fly airplanes. Some people may enjoy some of the things they do while flying for Uncle Sam and are willing to endure the bullshit that comes with it. Now you get the point? C. My last set of numbered points was some sad but true satire on many who get to be our senior leadership. Again, your greeness shows. Now if you want to flame on over spellings of screen names and any implied meanings, game on little one. I like my should chips right where they are and one day, you may too. Out
-
Not surprising that you don't get it. And you're not supposed to be showing everyone your dick these days, regardless of DADT. Jeez. Where else can you make Maj pay, be in charge of your plane and crew (for those that have one), fly something more challenging that getting ATIS and flying the ILS to a full stop, and drink beer with the crew afterwards while sharing tall tales? I have witnessed and heard of dudes in leadship positions try to buck "THE SYSTEM" and results varied from being put out to pasture in various BS jobs to retirement. Those that played along usually maintained climb-out to higher altitudes. I saw it right at the SQ CC level one day. One guy was the genuine article leader, working for the people and the other was the boss pleaser. Guess who moved up in the AF? This is what we lowerlings see everyday. So many take the guerilla warfare style. Unless you have some nice big daddy firepower to cover your ass, sticking your neck out has a track record of negative results. People keep trying though. Some are victorious, but I assume that as they climb, they will encounter the immovable object that shwacks them back down and they either get out or join the collective. Ah, AF leadership as the Borg. How enlightening. There is one recipe that has shown itself to work more often than not when it comes to getting promotion. 1. Know the game: Masters ASAP, PME when eligible ASAP, volunteer for each and every big additional duty from CFC to AF Ball. These are the elements of DPs and higher points on the promotion boards. 2. Be a boss pleaser and yes man. Always do what ever the boss wants. Never say no or can't. You'll be viewed as "True Blue." 3. Shit on everyone else as to why success didn't happen. Never blame your boss or higher. 4. When in power, be a dick to everyone under your charge so that you look good, and take credit for everything they do because your in charge of them. 5. Always volunteer for the exec jobs because that is where you get the number 1 strats as the boss can't have a #2 guy running the office. 6. Don't fly as much as everyone else because that takes time away from trying to climb the ladder in office jobs and everyone knows that the AF doesn't really care about flying performance. 7. Profit There are some variations on the formula, but you get the point. Out

I wonder if they will get rid of blues? The women wear these skirts and see-through blue shirts and that has to be distracting. There you go folks, I think I just made a case for getting rid of blues forever...they create a sexually inappropriate work environment. Out

Panetta to Lift Ban on Women in Combat
disgruntledemployee replied to nsplayr's topic in General Discussion
Nope. Politics is all about power. Values are used as tools to wield that power, maintain that power, and grow that power. These are the real reasons behind the decision. But I guess our politicans and leaders don't mind a few more dead women to grow their power. No matter what the military units do, political pressures will win and women will move in to units where they probably shouldn't be. People will die and this will be a factor. I hope you are happy with your position on this issue. Out -
Panetta to Lift Ban on Women in Combat
disgruntledemployee replied to nsplayr's topic in General Discussion
No its not. Any dipshit knows the fighting military force is not the Post Office, the Welfare office of HHS, or your local sherriff's department. Why would any American want its women on the front lines? Perhaps you, like I did, visualized yourself on a Higgins Boat about to storm the beaches in Normandy as depicted in Saving Private Ryan, and thought Jesus H Christ, that was pure fucking hell. Now put 10 ladies in that boat with 40 other men. And before you get all Debating Debbie on me that we don't storm beaches anymore, the point is to visualize real war with women. War is tough enough as it is, I really don't think we need to complicate the issue with gender just so some people can get a promotion. I asked my dad (been in real war) what he thought. He said it was one of the stupidest things he's ever heard of. Out Lastly, if you feel that the leaders at the top didn't cherry pick the data to support what they were ordered to do, you're naive. -
Panetta to Lift Ban on Women in Combat
disgruntledemployee replied to nsplayr's topic in General Discussion
You don't get to choose. Since you don't get to choose, and there are politics in play, someone is going to get hurt. Hence the policy is not right. Extra resources, extra efforts by people, and extra dollar$ will put put towards trying to make this happen. Why? Do we really need our women on the front lines? Out -
Panetta to Lift Ban on Women in Combat
disgruntledemployee replied to nsplayr's topic in General Discussion
If any woman wants to join the infantry and fight head-on with the enemy, I suggest a test. I'm not young, I'm not in the best shape of my life, and I'd even go as far as to assume I represent a typical man in this world and something that our Army or Marines could potentially face. If said woman can kick my ass in a fight, she can join the ranks. Out -
Oh, so your an asshole? Most people that agrue for the sake of arguing are, in my book, big fat stinking shit assholes. I don't believe you based on point A above. But I don't care about your point of view. Just don't go infecting those that serve around you with your spew. Lastly, I like my guns. I enjoy shooting them. Its my "golf." They are also my first and last line of protection, be it bears, coyotes raiding the chicken coop, or thugs. You and your kind don't seem to like that. They live in a bubble where they cannot imagine anyone inflicting harm upon them and thus cannot fathom why I want my rifle to hold up to 30 rounds of 55gr HPBT, or my pistol to hold 15 rounds of 185gr JHP. They see Hollywood portray Joe Citizen as dumb sheep and only the police or the A-Team can protect us. They also think that any self defense encounter should only require 1 shot because that is what TV/movies portray. Lack of proficiency and training, adrenaline, fog of conflict, darkness, etc. all lead to missed shots. Plus, not everyone has a vest or belt with multiple mags on their person at all times, especially in the middle of the night at home. The only guy that is well supplied with ammo is usually the bad guy. So, here are your take-aways. 1. There are bad guys in the world. 2. We don't have a personal police officer to protect us 24/7 from those bad guys. 3. I have the right to protect myself, wife, and kids. If I want 15 rounds in 1 mag to do so, I should be able to. Lastly, the Pres, VP, and any other shouting mouth politician (NY) can parade around all the victims they want. If I'm ever at the pointed end of a gun and I didn't have one to return the favor, I'll either blame myself for not carrying it, or the govt for keeping me from carrying it. I won't blame the police because of response time, I won't blame a mental health law, I won't blame a parent because they couldn't control their evil kid, and I won't blame an inanimate object. Disgustingly, Out!

FDA requires lowering of Ambien dosage
disgruntledemployee replied to discus's topic in Squadron Bar
Then submit to the man and pop his pills. Or take action and black out your room and demand a decent bed. Or demand that beer be available as that help people sleep too, and that has been around for many hundreds of years. If you have to resort to taking sleeping pills to get quality rest, that is fucked up. Its funny in the sad way that the AF monitors how many pills you get and counsels you if you take the max, yet pushes you to get them. Short story, flight doc on the rotator into AOR announced via plane PA system, "I'll be dispensing Ambien to anyone that wants it since you need to start adjusting to the different time zone." I've heard folks say that they popped Ambien and were then alerted earlier than planned. I've also seen some whacky shit happen to people on the stuff. Flying like that is dumb. Out -
Didn't some Herk pilot drop his Army brother paratrooper out at Pope a few years back? I seem to recall reading the article somewhere. Out

Taxes, the Deficit/Debt, and the Fiscal Cliff
disgruntledemployee replied to HeloDude's topic in Squadron Bar
I'm all for it, just use Bill Gates' money, Angelina Jolie's money, and Bill Clinton's money, not taxpayer money. These people can do a wonderful job funding birth control. Mr Gates loves giving out innoculations. These guys should create a bunch of clinics targeting those neighborhoods with high crime rates. They can even make catchy youtube videos. Or, make welfare a nice big pain in the ass. There is nothing like tearing out orange $5 "food stamps" in front of the cashier to pay for "grocery only" items and while the cashier tells the person that it doesn't cover the cases of soda, bags of junk food, or the carton of smokes. BTW, I loved the rebuttal video someone make of all the Hollywood stars using guns in their movies. Now someone needs to make one about all the Hollywoods using drugs in movies and how that's created a culture glorifying drugs. Even better, I hope the autopsy of the Conn. shooter shows he was high on pot, promting people to call for a ban on pot and other dangerous drugs. Out -

Maybe "The Market" knows something we don't. Maybe "The Market" doesn't care too much about sequestration tax rate increases because it thinks that they will be temporary. Maybe "The Market" is waiting for some other event to occur. Maybe someone forgot to tell "The Market" that its supposed to drop faster than Suzie Favor's underoos. BTW, who is "The Market," some energy entity blob? Out -

Taxes, the Deficit/Debt, and the Fiscal Cliff
disgruntledemployee replied to HeloDude's topic in Squadron Bar
Biased, huh? OK, Mr Smarty Pants, what seems to be the big economic problem we have here? Not enough taxes or too much spending? Do I even care about political capital in the capitol, hells no. Would I prefer those elected get their hands dirty and solve the problem, hells yeah. What I mean by getting hands dirty is stop playing politics and do some actual work. This isn't a fucking basketball game where fans cheer for outdoing each other with political slam dunks. Dems are so falling all over themselves from Nov that they see that as a sign from the heavens that they can't be wrong, at least that is what they want you to think. I don't want the Dems to get what they want because they are flat out wrong. So, like I said, get out your poms and cheer them on. I expect no less from you. Out -
Taxes, the Deficit/Debt, and the Fiscal Cliff
disgruntledemployee replied to HeloDude's topic in Squadron Bar
I would prefer Democrats get off their high horse, stop playing games, and get their hands dirty. All Democrats are doing is looking for the deal that makes them look good and everyone else look bad. Show me a Democrat that is proposing the spending cuts that our budget requires. And that is why America should flush the Congressional toilet because the stagnant shit stinks. But if you want Deomcrats to fire up the spin machine, get out your pom poms and cheer for them all the way. So here is my spin on this mess, "Its the spending, stupid!" Disgustingly Out
