  1. Grind, For a different perspective, please read. I'm enlisted in the FL ANG. Finished my bachelors last year, about to start my MBA. I had 100% tuition assistance, got married, and have two kids. Also work full time for the Guard. Were there late nights doing homework? Sure, but you will have those anyway. It can be done, and the only debt I have is my mortgage and payment for the truck so my wife can tote my kids around in. YMMV, but it can be done. I fly at the local Navy base as a member of the Flying Club ( much cheaper than at a civilian school) and was selected as an alternate for UPT with another Guard unit. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
  2. IMO, not necessarily. But as the airlines begin hiring, and dudes quit acting like AD since they are AGR, etc. and more are Traditional guys, it might help kickstart a mindset change. Or, the reverse will happen with the budget reduction and you might see more TFI and we're all ######ed. I'm a Guard Baby, and am proud of it. If I wanted to be on active duty, I would have joined active duty. My $.02, cheers!
  3. Completely agree. Well spoken.
  4. So far......443. What a great way to waste time I don't have! Edit: Just read the rest of the thread. Shit, I've got some catching up to do.
  5. Si seƱor.
  6. Saw it today when I flew into La Guardia. I agree with Rainman on his pronunciation.
  7. The article on foxnews read that he left a large amount for his family and $80K to a charity benefitting wounded Marines.
  8. Absolutely gorgeous aircraft. I have a poster of her waiting to get framed before it goes up in my garage. Horrible loss for the warbird community.
  9. A shame that he died. Good on him for saving the lives of the others aboard.
  10. I talked to my education office last week about this. I was told that they are waiting for the blessing from above to proceed. Expect more info towards the end of January/beginning of February. edit:grammarcuzI'madumbass.

    Crusades

    ---------Old Crow-------- Well played, sir.
  12. One of our guys flew here in Florida, but lived in Michigan. BUT, his wife was in med school there, and he was in law school. He has since moved back to Florida upon both him and his wife graduating.
  13. My .02 here. Have gone throught the testing process, both AFOQT, and Staff Sergeant, ALS, finishing college, etc. My advice: take care of the career you have NOW, before the career you are dreaming about. Perspective-not bashing you, just advising, NCO to Airman, with record numbers of people trying to join the military due to a collapsing job market, don't you think it would be a better idea to finish studying and testing for Staff before you attempt to take the AFOQT? It will not only look better on your military resume, but put some extra cash in your bank account that you can stash away while you go through the process of trying to become a pilot. Take it for what it's worth from a Guard dude. This and $0.35 will only get you a cup of coffee from the snack bar. Good luck.
  14. Thanks for the concern fellas, but it should be no biggie. Unfortunately, the video didn't show the portion where after he was hosed down, we read aloud a letter that all us crew chiefs, and other personnel had signed wishing him the best of luck in his new career. If we didn't like the guy, we wouldn't have expended the time, effort, and $$ to cover him in a bunch of crap. :) Just thought I'd share since he posts here on baseops.
  15. A little snippet of Jeremy's going away festivities got put up on youtube. He's leaving us (FANG Crew Chiefs), to fly the KC-135 with the Reserves at Macdill. Good Luck at UPT Buddy!!!! (director's note: the bucket had a quart of mayo and five boxes of anchovies that had just got done cooking in the microwave-getting really foul smelling)
  16. Glad to be in the Guard, where we PT in civvie gear still. for all you tucking your shirts and wearing daisy duke's.
  17. Sheetmetal or Engine Shop over Crew Chief? HELL NO! You'll never find this EagleKeeper doing that!
  18. Have fun, we (125th FW) were slated to go, but word came down last week that we won't be.
  19. Ask any of the old-time FANG dudes about the pilot in one of our F-16's (at the time) who hit a pig on the runway while landing, punched out, and put ye'old Viper in some pine trees. Of course, that's a little different than Yeager, but hey, there's pine trees...... HiFlyer's right, the Guard is a different breed than active duty. I for one, as a Florida Guardsman, love it and wouldn't change a thing. Except maybe put the stripper pole back up in the NCO club.
  20. Steve, if you're interested, I can talk to my dad for ya. He's a maintenance officer with HSL-40, the Atlantic Fleet replacement training squadron, they fly SH-60B and SH-60R's out of Mayport, FL. HSL-40 Airwolves *edit to add link
  21. My contribution: Acemom: Don't click this link..........DON'T YOU DO IT!!!!!!!!!!.......aaahhh, you did it, didn't you? Knew you couldn't resist. *edit for link
  22. Holy crap, what would make someone think that it would be cool to inject your eyeball full of ink? I cringed the whole time watching that, and I'm not squeamish around needles. OW!
  23. Hades Bomb. Nuff said.
  24. Have read it twice now.
