  1. Yep.. sniper/litening is better coordinate accuracy than most of the ISR type pods. Which is why the assertions above (previous pages, not your post) about a sniper equipped aircraft not being suitable for BOT are a little strange.
  2. Agree that the crew should be pulling/maximizing SA, just pointing out that focusing on a strobe/pod mismatch as the major cause does a dis service in deriving lessons learned and preventing it from happening again. Tarnak Farms and multiple other OIF/OEF/Desert Storm incidents reinforce that we all need to train/focus on it as a CAF.
  3. Read the report. Not saying the aircrew were faultless by any means, but based on the chain of events the same outcome could very easily have happened in daytime. Adherence to JPUB by all members of the CAS team is the best way to prevent this.
  4. Never seen anyone do it.. and the B-1 isn't a DV airlift platform
  5. Is a credit rating considered personal property? If so, ordering military personnel to contract with a private company (and put their credit rating on the line for govt expenses) raises some issues. In addition, with your credit score often being lowered for too many accounts open, it could affect their personal credit even if no issues paying it off - any personal finance gurus know the point at which this would occur?
  6. The key words are additional cost to the government (like you had to stay an extra day and got the per diem, etc.) I believe if you get bumped with no additional government cost you could keep the $ but then couldn't claim delay-related expenses.
  7. Don't the cyber patches wear... patches?
  8. FYI for your RA JFTR paragraph 040502 specifically states that not using your GTC can't be used as a reason to deny reimbursement. That being said it's still better to go through CTO if you can to get the govt contract fare - that way if your TDY changes etc. you aren't stuck with a non refundable ticket.
  9. Good thing AFGSC didn't copy both those initiatives. Phoenix/Striker crossflow also hurts the bleeding instructor manning since (on the Striker side at least) the year groups we send are guys who have been instructors for 1-2 years and get crossflow guys who won't upgrade for that same length of time
  10. Wasn't that the pre-Pueblo IFS (not all the way to CSEL/250 hours, but PPL level)? Even with a syllabus it would need a lot of standardization to prevent students from picking up bad habits from CFIs.
  11. Better download it before AFGSC/PA orders it taken down like the last B-1 deployment video.
  12. Yep... had a local MOA 100% cleared down to 500A/0.99M with low level ops happening daily. Normal noise complaints from Billy Bob's trailer park, etc for low levels. Patriotic small town folks call the airspace manager and ask if they can have a low pass for some funeral/rally/other patriotic event since they know they're in the MOA. OSS stops it from getting pushed up since a low flyover over a MOA town that someone complains about becomes an NSA with a CC: to the crew about the noise complaint, but a low flyover over a MOA town that they've asked for becomes an "unapproved aerial demo" since it was prearranged and results in Huggy's scenario.
  13. Needs of the AF, timing, performance, leadership perception, FLT/CC discretion, luck. Not necessarily in that order. Metaphor for assignments the rest of your career. Someone who is not a team player and screws over their classmates will have a hard time as your reputation follows you to the next MDS no matter what you drop. Focus on "excruciating detail" in your study/flying and worry less about the drop process.
  14. Hopefully SPOs fix the ADS-B implementation to avoid things like this... https://theaviationist.com/2017/07/20/here-is-the-route-a-u-s-rq-4-global-hawk-drone-is-currently-flying-during-a-surveillance-mission-over-the-black-sea-and-ukraine/
  15. Probably. But when Boeing/LockMart/Northrop charges you $100 mil and 3 years for what an iPad can do in $600/2 months, the calculus changes.
  16. Got a rumor of 12X tasking to this deployment as well - any truth to this, flying/nonflying, etc? Can PM if necessary
  17. And the CAF
  18. Interesting discussion here https://www.socnet.com/showthread.php?s=901d9e51cc8a14c5513b30f6357692d0&t=57577 from 11 years ago when CSAR was moved from AFSOC to ACC - rationale seems to have been more funding / priority vs competing with SOF missions programatically.
  19. Except voting - plenty of opposition to ID requirements or even the current ban on felons voting.
  20. We probably have a moral problem not a gun problem... these folks https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/i-used-to-think-gun-control-was-the-answer-my-research-told-me-otherwise/2017/10/03/d33edca6-a851-11e7-92d1-58c702d2d975_story.html who are not right leaning by any means (Nate Silver's 538 analysts) can't find a gun control solution that will work, and Chicago (where guns are almost 100% illegal, and 100% illegal for felons) had 57 murders in September alone.
  21. When you need flight boots your flying unit will issue them
  22. Until you get passed over for O-5 and non-continued (or even RIFed).
  23. Avoid clouds, the sun, and neutral borders?
  24. Get an account for AISR and put it in directly, it'll go straight to whatever center you put in to the address block and you get an ACK back. That's what A1C Snuffy does when you hand him the piece of paper. Unfortunately some base ops do try to play the middleman, we've had jets get denied taxi clearance by ground or even held short by tower at a TDY base because base ops didn't have a signed paper copy of the flight plan the crew e-filed (never mind they can log into AISR and see everything).
