  1. Question (to paraphrase): If the AF is so concerned about rated retention, why the lower promotion rates for rated on the recent boards Answer/analogy: The quarterback is the star player on the football team, but we need to remember that the game couldn't happen without everyone else, even the waterboy. I'm pretty sure I have less training to do to become a waterboy for the Patriots than to replace Tom Brady... Also, if we think we have it bad because of XXX, we need to go to see those in Walter Reed and reconsider if we really have it that bad.
  2. Those officers could also advise the commanders on avoiding any type of offense to political correctness - could call them "political officers" for short
  3. Spreading to part of the CAF - AFGSC copied the AMC crossflow program for bombers. Some of the guys coming over as Capts do OK, but dropping B-52 O-6 leadership without combat experience into B-1 command positions is another matter.
  4. More likely justification is "jointness", with the mandate for common requirements/platform for all services, putting room in the fuselage for the B model's STOVL hardware couldn't possibly have helped things. There's probably a reason the Marines have both the hornet and harrier.
  5. Don't disagree on the volunteering, and I don't know if the tower chief could possibly have handled that situation at a base (such as AMC or Navy) without a SOF.
  6. Good words, I think it is somewhat of a filter and check that they have the right mentality. In addition, to lead tactical aviators, you are making a lot of tactical decisions (FEASCAPs, changing regs, ranking for upgrades, backing up your crews when an incident happens). To have credibility in those decisions you need to either have the experience to understand what you are talking about or listen to subordinates who are the experts, since most can't seem to do the latter they need the former.
  7. A lot more than 300 NM away + immediate target prosecution with flight lead control vs GO level meddling after 10 hours of ISR
  8. Unlikely, lots of institutional inertia (many of the B-52 guys I've talked to have had the same issue for longer) Several have, they tend to use the normal B-2 hiring process vs Striker Vista though.
  9. He's not against helping the US on the ground. If the Army is in an unsustainable position, though, grinding air resources at the problem without clear, achievable, measurable objectives merely keeps those soldiers in the same position longer vs realigning objectives (we are generally better at surgical excision of terrorist structures vs whole scale nation building)
  10. I think that's called the GBU12. Other concepts replace expensive sensors with expensive datalinks. Even if.the datalink gets cheaper, updates require either the weapon knowing exactly where it is (JDAM) or the launch aircraft somehow tracking both the weapon and the target. For Nsplayrs comments on the GFC issue, they need to be pushed back into their lane as supported asset - request effects (targets destroyed) and not how that will be achieved. Similar to strikers (generally) not dictating the escort package load out or ID matrix.
  11. Describes many LTs unfortunately
  12. Technically true, but the large amount of concessions FAA/locals/reservations/etc forced on the AF over the process Huggy referenced resulted in almost 50% of the airspace being closed to LL, and the "huge airspace" is actually 4 airspaces that you can only join once a quarter for LFEs. And then the fighters don't want to play (understandably) since it's capped at FL260. Still better than Lancer though.
  13. The intent is to give the crews engagement authority, so the ISR turns into DT/SCAR (find target indicators that match your planned matrix, kill target) not find target indicators, intel goes into the black hole of joint targeting and ISIS lives to fight another day.
  14. What about asking for priority/need date when the ticket is filed (if the system supports this)?
  15. He's right, we do generally prefer threat reacting to raging white (or grey)
  16. That event was a major contributor to the severe fighter (and other) pilot shortage today... both directly through TAMI-21 and indirectly through the loss of trust from the rest of the fliers in the affected units. MC-12 (until recently) was manned out of hide from other MWS... that kind of shock (especially without any end strength increase/funding) is something I think we can do without.
  17. Don't know about multifamily but a lot of guys renting out their homes in Abilene are making close to and sometimes more than the mortgage
  18. Unless something changed there are no WSOs on the Buff - they would have to be qualified on every seat in the aircraft (I think AFGSC has done dual qual but not triple)
  19. Did Flynn have a clearance at the time? If so unreported foreign contacts are probably a bad thing regardless of what is/isn't monitored.
  20. Follow the T.O/IFG hung/other EP procedures and IFE/egress? Draken flies CAS sorties for JTAC quals with live ordnance. Also various contractor/GS test aircrew fly fighters/bombers with live ordnance.
  21. https://www.defensetravel.dod.mil/Docs/TopTCPMyths.pdf Reported as delinquent after 60 days, late fees at 75, pay deduction at 120, and credit report at 210. It also says DOD is required by law to reimburse travelers within 30 days. I'd like to find a citation for that.
  22. All of the above possibly, depending on time to get paid and your CC. Also possibly a hit on your security clearance if the debt goes long enough Sent from my XT1254 using Baseops Network Forums mobile app
  23. OCPs/2-piece flight suits are nice. Unfortunately not for ejection seats unless something's changed.
  24. Latest for a few AFG jobs is 395s... the Army is mandating 30 days of overlap, +3-4 months of stateside expeditionary courses = 1.5 years away from the family
