All-Seeing Blimp Could Be Afghanistan’s Biggest Brain
Skitzo replied to Whitman's topic in General Discussion
Maybe it will increase the accuracy of the AWACS traffic calls if they know one of their targets is actually stationary. -
Update... they actually posted it. https://www.386aew.afcent.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123237055

I recall being told at one time it all had to do with your short tour return date. So the guy who has 364 days over seas and the guy who has 185 days are equal in the eyes of big blue if they returned on the same date. The only time actual deployment days count is when you don't have a short tour. Your days overseas are tacked onto your EAD date if you never have had a short tour or are tacked onto your previous short tour return date.
-
Why is the short tour discriminator out there? Now with them changing the rules of what a short tour is will previous short tours still count? How about we just use days deployed / contingency as a discriminator until these wars are behind us for 10+ years. This way the d bag who has been deployed for precisely 185 days in his 15-17 years of service gets tagged for the 365 instead of the crew dog who has in excess of 4 years deployed for the same amount of time in service just doesn't have the short tour.

Preparing a House for Deployments / Trips
Skitzo replied to Banquet Beer's topic in General Discussion
The wife heads out of town everytime I deploy. The laundry list is: Set AC/Heat as appropriate Turn off hot water heater Unplug all major appliances Hire someone to pickup mail/mow the lawn/start the car/board up the house for hurricanes. -
they probably got my comment and decided to ban any further comments.

I did use the excuse once to someone asking me where my reflective belt once that I did not wear it when going to fly because I wouldn't want to forget taking it off and in the event of an ejection I wouldn't want to reflect my position to the Taliban but that was total BS on my part, I just forgot it in my room.

I submitted this, lets see if they post it: Chief, I respectfully disagree, proper uniform wear is not a force protection issue. Someone who is not clean shaven after a 15 hour sortie or wearing a University of Miami morale patch on their DFDU is clearly not to be confused with terrorists. I agree that we should all know how to wear our uniform properly and the reason for a uniform is good order and discipline. However when the emphasis of leadership goes from the doing the job: flying, fighting and winning or at least ensuring your support function is contributing to that mission to worrying about people's reflective belts and morale patches I think leadership has lost its focus. Furthermore I really dislike the manner in which enlisted correct officers. I don't think it is improper to correct someone doing something wrong but there is decorum to be followed. If you want to correct me, you can salute me, politely ask to speak to me in private and address it there. If it isn't appropriate to do so, then it probably isn't the right circumstance to care. I agree that uniforms are important but not more important than the mission and the mission can't be enforcing uniforms, that is a waste of money and time. When this great country was under attack on 9/11 our military leadership did not care in the slightest if the pilots called on to intercept a hijacked aircraft were in proper military attire. Our leadership was hoping they were going to accomplish the mission even if that was the worst mission ever. I wish I would see a little more mission focus and less emphasis on uniforms from our leadership. Again I'm not stating that I condone improper uniform wear I'm just asking why people care to the detriment of the mission about this sort of queep? We're not talking about being out of uniform we are talking about minor uniform infractions like having sunglasses on your head, morale patches on your flight suit and the lack of a tuck on your PT shirt.

Man, what I wouldn't give to tell this guy off. Wish he would have been around to straighten that loose cannon Robin Olds out.

I can't even imagine PCSing with an any less than a 1 month old. Aside from the stress on your spouse, the confluence of events that will lead to an uneventful first month of life is staggering. If everything goes according to plan you will breathe a sigh of relief. The way the military challenges me and others it's a crime that we don't get a month off for paternity leave. Congratulations on your upcoming blessing but that TX/IQ class will wait, burn up all that extra leave you have and never look back. I didn't and I won't for the upcoming birth of our twins and I won't look back in regret either whether I retire as an O-5 or an O-4, if I can swing it I might settle on O-3 with continuation! And for those that are interested, no we weren't on fertility drugs and I was a B-1 guy at first, and the twins are boys, our first is a boy as well. There is hope for you guys yet!

Isn't there a section for this type of information on the RIP for your assignment or did you get the RIP so long ago that it wasn't a factor. I do believe you shouldn't be PCSed past a certain time in a dependent's pregnancy that is a foul.

Moved a 57 inch plasma a couple years ago. Nothing major wrong with it other than some odd behavior now and again, auto shut off every once and a while, main menu displays in an odd way. It clears up with removing power to it.

What happens if we find out the engine flamed out on final? Bottomn line the B-1 community has suffered a horrible loss and a thread that is normally used as a way to remember the fallen is being used to monday morning quarterback the guy. Any speculation as to the causes can wait until the NTSB report is final the same way we reserve comments until the AIB is concluded. Not saying that we can't learn from tragedy, but I would like to think that professional discretion would avoid pointless speculation when the event occured so close in time and to someone known so well to the baseops community. RIP Anthony, prayers to you, your family and the 28th Bomb Wing.

Better question than who is to blame in leadership is what is the personality defect that causes people to believe they are superior to the laws of physics. That notes, warnings and cautions do not apply. As aviators we are typically type a personalities, we are not adverse to risk we accept it every day we go do our job. What causes otherwise smart, intelligent and skilled aviators to simply split with their ability to be rational? Is it related to incrementalism? Well 60 degrees worked last time even with the stall warning going off, why not try for 65? Is it a climate of "we bend the rules to get the mission done?" I guess I'm just speculating because we will never know.

Wouldn't be suprised if Lt Katie Rolling wrote this article.

Just got the SIB breifing today, to reiterate you need to demand this from your safety shop. Good presentation, sobering.

Against my better judgment I had two last night, I woke up this morning with one pissed off wife and no recollection of what I had done. Potent shit.

You know at some point this stuff will be at the Pentagon, awesome job!
-
So it's been banned at numerous colleges. It's been banned for sale at Hurlburt. A member of a MX squadron on base drank two, and woke up in jail the next day. Apparently he had consumed two, drove his car from the dorms to Destin, got naked and didn't remember a thing. With an alcohol content equal to five beers and the caffeine that equals a couple cups of coffee I am pretty interested, anyone out there try this stuff?
-
This seriously needs to get sent to every "commander's action line" to every base on up. It says everything that is wrong with the Air Force. This is an excellent video, hilarious, sad and true at the same time. Every shoe that sees this though will not understand it.
