  2. I kept an online journal, but I didn't give the url out to anyone but my family. Whether or not you want to put yourself and experiences out there for everyone to read is up to you. I will say I was one of the readers of studentpilot.net, Hacker's journal, and a few other guys who wrote about their experience. Contrary to the opinion of the poster who put down Hacker's effort, I definitely felt reading all of those journals helped. I have yet to get anything other than my first choice.
  3. Solid advice here. On the main roads and highways over there, a normal sized American car will be just fine, but on all the backroads (and believe me there are a LOT of backroads), a narrower car is much better. Some of the roads are barely the width of one car with hedgerows on either side. Additionally, like Prosuper mentioned, having your steering wheel on the right side is definitely safer. edit for grammar
  4. Boy did he miss the target. *Shaking my head in disgust* Let the box checking continue. Glad to see his priorities are straight.
  5. And if the battery/whole thing dies? Would suck to be flying an approach or need to access a checklist and get a blue screen of death (or whatever the mac equivalent is).
  6. Right on.
  7. Back then has NOTHING to do whether or not his actions were appropriate. It definitely has something to do with the punishment he received. Had they treated him then like they would treat him now, he would have never become the greatest leader the Air Force has yet to see. Nope. Said it how I meant it. Sorry you can't take the criticism.
  8. Unrelated to the point you're trying to make (which I agree with except for the hanging 'em out to dry bit), but wanted to point something out: Going along with something just because it's "today's culture" is a horrible mindset to have. And certainly something that is not in the tradition of the Air Force. Perhaps you worded that wrong, but it makes you sound like someone who has no spine. If something is wrong, then the current "culture" is irrelevant.
  9. I think you mean shining your ass, but whatever. I don't think anyone in this thread "sees nothing wrong" with what those guys may or may not have done. Hell yeah it was dumb. What's disappointing in this thread is the holier-than-thou attitude and eagerness to crucify these guys and destroy their careers when something like this should be dealt with a royal ass kicking at the sq/do level.
  10. Uggg... The Air Force is full of pussies these days.
  11. Great audio link there.
  12. What do they do now? Sit the cadets in the corner? Not let them participate in ultimate frisbee?
  13. 2 Guys 1 Seat. The Air Force is accepting of these sort of arrangements now.
  14. Very doubtful.
  15. Exactly. If you're IMC in the MOA, then any traffic that is a potential hazard is going to be on an IFR clearance and under the control of ATC. When you're VMC in the MOA, conflicting traffic could be VFR talking to no one.
  16. He ejected so Michele Obama wouldn't have to go around.
  17. Not enough! If we cut back flying hours some more, we might be able to pay for it though.
  18. Sounds like a damn good read. Thanks.
  19. Grounded. Flight control malfunction at Sheppard.
  20. That crap comes from the SNCO academy at Gunter. As a Lt at ASBC, we spent a week with these guys discussing such important issues as "Should you wear your hat while in uniform when you're taking out the trash at your house" and "Why it's important to wear a reflective belt."
  21. If you prove you know more than the evaluator, it's pretty much an unwritten rule they HAVE to put you in STAN/EVAL.
  22. Do we have to keep making statements in the form of a question? You bet!
  23. It's a hell of a lot better than listening to a bunch of lemmings dive head first into a self-licking, dick sucking, everybody's right, group-think discussion.
  24. Columbus is still keeping it old fashioned.
  25. I know it's bad, but I laughed out loud when I saw that picture. Well done.
