  1. Update on the Tyndall crash https://www.newsherald.com/article/20150909/NEWS/150909246 "An F-16 pilot killed when he crashed into the Gulf of Mexico during training did not go through the proper training to begin flying the jets again after a nearly 20-year hiatus, the Air Force says." They're saying that because he didn't go through the fuge again, he shouldn't have ever received a qual in the airplane.
  2. The authors of the article blew that small piece of the video way out of proportion. He says the DAS has other more important functions than being able to look through the airplane and he mentions the other uses of the helmet as well.
  3. I was thinking it could be a blown tire caused by something that no one could foresee.
  4. In college, you have a choice. You can choose to let the frustration and boredom of having to learn useless information ruin your GPA (and make your life's goals way harder to achieve), OR you can view them as a challenge and a small price to pay for a life time of job satisfaction. Music was the hardest class you've ever taken? Come on man. Even the Poli Sci guys are laughing at you. A large portion of this board are engineering majors. I don't give a shit how many styles of classical music you had to memorize - it wasn't as hard as 20 hours of differential equations, thermodynamics, electrical engineering, orbital mechanics, etc. in one semester. No one here is trying to make you feel like a piece of shit; we're just trying to give you perspective. Here's some advice for you: Every point matters. You have one chance. Don't fuck this up.
  5. Get those AFOQT scores up dude. They're a glaring blemish.
  6. Your students rock! Just make sure they get the timing right so you get crunchy bacon and jalapenos. If you follow Motown's direction on infidel corn, you can't go wrong. Also - I've never had a problem with the bacon grease. We clean the utensils after each batch, but only clean the entire machine every couple months. Be careful on cleaning the heating element, though. You'll short it out if you don't let the element dry out completely after cleaning.
  7. Old, but still relevant.
  8. Uggg... that sucks. Hope it wasn't pilot error.
  9. CAP, like ROTC, always takes the bullshit of the Air Force and magnifies it to the level of satire. It would be funny if they weren't serious.
  10. What exactly was your point then? You said, "that could take the form of forgoing the latest and greatest RWR variant in favor of something that makes you less of a hazard in civilian airspace." Clearly, you're implying that instead of a better RWR, F-16s should get an ADS-B equipped IFF. In response, everyone called out your bullshit. You then back-pedaled, trying to play the "that's not exactly what I said" game of semantics. Everyone called your bullshit again. Most military pilots were or are general aviation pilots as well. Most of us have been on both sides of the fence. The same can't be said for most general aviation pilots. So whose opinion regarding what military aircraft should be eqipped with carries more weight? You're out of your element.
  11. Mega threads and overly aggressive moderation are the reason Baseops.net has been going down over the last 6-7 years.
  12. It's a disconnect between how many hours AFPC thinks you work and how many you actually work.
  13. Very interesting talk from a senior fellow at the Brookings Institute. 35 minutes of where we're at in terms of cyber security + 20 minutes of Q&A.
  14. Most "Satanists" in the media are really just atheists/agnostics/etc using the idea of Satan to lampoon Christians in the same way drawings of Mohammed have been used to get a rise out Muslims. I'm not a religious person, but "Have a blessed day" doesn't bother me; nor would "May Allah bless you" or "Hail Satan" for that matter. That last one would make me laugh though.
  15. Looks like he had one hell of a life. A toast to him
  16. He's talking about 11Fs being highly desired in fighter billets as opposed to TAMI21 or whatever short-sighted program they come up with next, which cast 11Fs to the wind.
  17. That's exactly what happened in the army. Someone was butthurt about Rangers having berets, so they gave everyone a black beret. Naturally, the Rangers then changed theirs to tan. It's exactly the same shit.
  18. I'd call that a fringe benefit, not the mission.
  19. Didn't it use to be that officers were the ones that came up with the bullshit and SNCOs were the crusty old dudes who knew exactly how to cut through the bullshit and get the job done? wtf happened?
  20. It's a dangerous business.
  21. Not sure if you tried these already, but I would talk to the IAO, the registrar, and public affairs. PA ran a number of articles over the years about those guys.
  22. From what I've heard, yes, It was a QF-16A. Corrected by Termy below. Nickel on the grass
  23. Agree with others... BaseOps.net is a damn good resource. It got me from high school to a fighter, and I learned a lot about not being a douchebag along the way. I would hazard a guess that there are many other people who also found their way through this website. There have been many times when I've disagreed with others on this site, and there are times I've seen moderators step out of line (in my opinion), but on the whole, I think the site is generally trending in the right direction. Locking down the forums would only kill discussion. It wouldn't encourage it. The personal and misogynistic attacks on any woman who's picture is shown on this website is a little much, but I guess this is one of the last places a he-man woman haters club can exist. Either way, freedom of speech is more important than someone getting their feelings hurt by comments on the internet. And for what it's worth, I've been reading these forums since 03 (migrated from studentpilot.net).
  24. The emperor is wearing no clothes again...
  25. shhhhh! We can't speak of this incident!
