I first heard it as a version of "Throw a Nickle on the Grass, Save a Fighter Pilot's Ass. First verse: I'd like to tell the story about the Thunder Thud, The bad you heard about it, is just a bunch of crud. It took a lot of us up north and brought us back again And the man who speaks against it will hear our mighty hymn. HYMN, HYMN, F--K HIM!

New book about the air war over North Vietnam by a F-105 fighter pilot who flew 144 1/2 missions. It's the memoirs of then Capt. Billy Sparks. He flew as a strike pilot and a Wild Weasel pilot. https://www.amazon.com/Takhli-Tales-ebook/dp/B00BIP28YC There's some typos in it but overall it a good insight into the life of a fighter pilot during the war along with some comments about the leadership.

Funny thread, lol, almost lmao. I had an uncle who was a Navy recruiter, I went Air Force ROTC. Tells you a lot, huh?

More good press... $1 billion wasted on Air Force computer system

Strike 2. They tried this about 40 years ago. Same result, they pulled the plug because it didn't work. -
I don't recall anyone in Thailand wearing a scarf during Vietnam; too hot and humid.

Looks like they forget to check the refueling method earlier. Now there is a problem. Maybe they'll subcontract the refueling to the USAF.

Back in 1964, Captain Eugene J. Devlin, Thunderbird Two, was killed when the fuselage of his F-105 broke up, The memorial of this was misplaced but recently found. Here is the story of the restoration.

How many generations of flying in your family?
ol-IEWO replied to brickhistory's topic in Squadron Bar
My father flew with Captain Randolph. Randolph AFB was named after him. As a kid, his widow would send me a present every Christmas,. At the time I didn't realize what a big deal that was. During WW II, dad worked for Curtis-Wright and flew test flights of C-46's coming off the assembly line. Me: BUFs, Destroyers, Thuds, Phantoms. Maybe one of the grand kids will be a UAV flier when they grow up. -
Being old school, I have to ask, wouldn't they have entered the coordinates for MacDill in the system - GPS has been very accurate for me. A crosscheck would have told them that MacDill was miles ahead.

Chuck DeBellevue did it in the Air Force. Probably a special case. -
Marine Fighter Squadron Told To Nix Crusader Patch/Emblem
ol-IEWO replied to Royal's topic in General Discussion
They're both inactive now but I wonder if they would be told to change their patch if they were activated. -

It happened. How will this affect the REMF/shoe clerks? ...flight crews? A-10's probably get hit with small arms fire, so they could be covered for the month.

Read the lease. What rights does it give the owner to break the lease? If none of you three have done anything to trigger her right to evict, she is in the wrong. Check with the JAG office for advice (if the JAG still does that).

I've looked at a lot of resumes of former military and interviewed many of them. I've worked for DOD contractors and for commercial companies. Don't use acronyms or military terms in your resume. Explain what you did and awards you received in terms your grandmother would understand. I never did speak Army, Navy or Marine Corps and if it weren't for this board, I wouldn't understand current Air Force. If you are sending a resume to a DOD contractor, it should say you have a recent background check. Have different versions of your resume for different companies/jobs. If you are going after a specific job, focus your resume to that job. brickhistory was spot on - contact people you know who got out. Most good jobs are filled by people who had contacts in the company. It's called networking. Every job I've had was because I knew somebody in the company and several cases, they called me with a job offer. b52gator's suggestion is great. Have the flight surgeon document all your medical issues. A paycheck from the VA is beer money. A conscientious flight doc documented something I said in passing. It got me 20% from the VA.

The victors get to write the history books. The CSA said the War was about States Rights. I find it interesting that 150 years later, there are northern state yelling "States Rights."

What would be the outcome if a situation similar to this occurred in the modern Air Force? Wayne Hague always wondered whatever happened to the pilot whose crippled plane he refueled and escorted to safety over North Vietnam in 1967. Ron Catton always wondered about that pilot who kept him from having to bail out of his F-4C Phantom fighter and into a suite at the "Hanoi Hilton," the nickname for an infamous North Vietnamese prison. "using the same attack heading to protect friendlies, repeatedly attacked the battalion sized armor element dug in on the east side of the Tigris River bridge. For 33 minutes, he and his wingman braved the ever-increasing hailstorm of anti-aircraft fire" That says a lot about the A-10's survivability or his and his wingman's luck or maybe both. Still, it takes balls to do it. Well done, sir.
