Shacked it with that one. Now that congress has tested the waters in regards to taking bites out of mil retirements, many folks on the fence now have a reason to jump the other way. The negative trend and perceptions are going to be VERY difficult for the USAF to reverse.

FY 14 Force Management Program (RIF, VSP, TERA)
Vprdrvr69 replied to AOF_ATC's topic in General Discussion
Chang, What you read on BODN are the heartfelt emotions of your Air Force warriors...this anger and frustration is pent up deep inside and is far more problematic than you could fathom or repair. The Air Force folks you encounter daily likely aren't the ones on this forum; most of the folks on this forum have been fighting non-stop wars and dealing with suck that you couldn't imagine, so I understand why you feel confused. I would happily tell you in person my perspective if the chance occurred. I'm deeply saddened that I feel the way that I do. I could write you a thesis about the subject, but most of the points have been covered in other posts. The path that I took to enter the USAF was extremely difficult and most told me it was an impossible dream. I chased a lifelong dream and wouldn't let anything in the world stand in the way of achieving it. During OTS and UPT, my level of passion and dedication to the Air Force was beyond measure. The pride and sense of duty that I felt every waking moment was extraordinary. I prayed that I would be able to serve at least 20 years. All of this was elevated to a new level when my dedication and hard work rewarded me with my fighter assignment. I walked on water... Fast forward a few years and I am reeling with the debilitating pain of a giant blue cock in my ass fukking away my dreams. That bitch is named TAMI- she works for you. Words can't describe the pain and sense of loss that I felt. Confusion, heartbreak, and crossed describe the feeling well. Faith was lost. Trust was lost. Cards were shown and as a young Lt, I learned a valuable lesson: you are just a number and timing is everything. I moved on and continued, somehow, to serve the country that I wrote a blank check to, payable with my life. After moving on, Service before Self was paid across 9 grueling deployments where I amassed over 1300 hours in combat serving my country. During this time, I watched the last debacle unfold in regards to the VSP/RIF around the same time I watched Mother Blue ass-###### 157 Majors out of the service. It's amazing how I have spent my entire USAF career serving my country while watching Big Blue ###### over it's own at every step. I've seen it too many times. Most of us have seen what was once our passion turn into just a another shitty job. I'm a talented aviator and would drive a jet straight to hell to bomb the devils whorehouse and 69 virgins if my country needed me to. Sadly, the Air Force isn't interested in really serving the country or taking care of it's own. I'll find a way to keep serving my country, and it won't be in the active duty AF. Somehow, you have taken the most talented folks this country has to offer and screwed them to a point where they will turn-in their dreams and a six figure income without second thought. If you opened the gates and let folks run, you would see how bad it really is. Instead we play with VSP shenanigans...not only would we leave for free, I would offer up a chunk of savings at this point as would many. When you turn our passion into just a job, we go searching for better jobs. It never was about the job or the money, it was about passion and dreams. You broke faith. I'm not bluffing and neither are most on this forum. Months ago it seemed like we were being threatened because the cuts were coming and we better check six. I'm calling your bluff. Open the gates... -
FY 14 Force Management Program (RIF, VSP, TERA)
Vprdrvr69 replied to AOF_ATC's topic in General Discussion
I tried accessing the PSDMs but the latest one that I saw was 13-128. I wonder if they already rescinded it to change the rules. On a serious note, how do you guys read the second line on the VSP eligibility? I am a 04 year group Major select pinning on 1 Mar (at the current rate). I will be ineligible for the RIF. The VSP states that if you are RIF eligible than you are VSP eligible. It also lists the second row of data stating between 6 and 15 years are eligible. I like to think this means I would qualify. I'm sure there are many of us in this boat that want to VSP if eligible. How do you guys read this? -

Unbelievable! Let the debacle begin. Considering that 11S has been at the top of the AFPC stressed ADSC list it surprises the hell out of me that they would include them. Poor UAV bastards can't catch a break though. Any thoughts on the initial words about promotion list or 1 year TIG guys being ineligible? Guess I might hold my PC papers for a couple of months while this shitshow unfolds. -
I am waiting for the 180 out right now. My gut tells me that if my longest ADSC is less than a year from my DOS, my chances are pretty decent (in light of the new FM measures, maybe my chances got even better). I saw on the myPers webpage that 11X are ineligible for the expanded PC option, go figure. Contrary to popular belief, 11X's WERE (maybe still are) eligible for the FY14 PC program. When I recently spoke with the in-service recruiter, she said that the program changed last summer and that 11X's were eligible after they changed the rules half way through implementation (sound familiar). That specific program buys you a 1:1 instead of the standard 1:3 service commitments. That FY14 program does specify that the GI bill transfer will not be waived/ PC'd so I am fine taking the 1:3 with a standard PC. My question alluded to the fact that if Big Blue is on another frenzy to right-size the force, maybe pushing my PC app in immediately is the thing to do. I'm waiting for more words on these new FM measures before I decide. I am ready to apply but would rather wait a month or two longer than have to deal with a rejection and reapplication of PC. I'm basing most of my decisions based on trends that I have seen first hand or read here on BODN.

The sad thing is, being on a promotion list makes you ineligible. I will have been a Major select longer than I was either version of Lieutenant. Is Major select a grade? Too bad it's not. With so many programs in the FY14 FM program, certainly I must qualify for one of them. Sadly I don't think I do nor do I think AFPC will adhere to their rules if I did. Liquid/ Chang: Now that the FY14 FM program is out, make 11X's eligible and see if pilots call your bluff. I'm afraid to say that the non-stop preaching and whining about leaving AD is for real, and the numbers will show it if you allow it. I'll submit my packet first thing in the morning if 11X is allowed. You would be alarmed to find out how many school selects and fast burners would follow suit. We'll be gone and I only hope that lessons will be learned. Standing by for the AFSC lists... -
With the release of the new FY14 FM measures, how much do you guys think this will impact the success rates for PC applications? I have been hired by a Reserve unit and am counting down the seconds to leave active duty BUT don't want to the jump the gun as I am counting on a PC approval. My plan was a separation date late summer 14 which would put me inside of one year for my longest ADSC (AFT for new aircraft). With the new FM measures, maybe a much quicker PC would be possible? Thoughts? Any latest approvals/ disapprovals?

I heard earlier today that the suspect was a TSA employee! That made me laugh uncontrollably but I can't find anything to support that claim. Has anyone else heard this?
-
I once witnessed an Afghany "terror suspect" going to town mounting his precious livestock! I thought it was hillarious but many might be appalled in our new PC culture. How is that for offensive sexual misconduct? To think that this behavior was viewed and recorded on USAF equipment. Since those "terrorists" certainly aren't going to listen to the aircrew, that is on a mission to exterminate them, perhaps our leadership can inform the Afghan populace that their behavior (during my workday) is offensive and must stop immediately. We should stop the war until this resolved!

And this whole time I thought Maddow was a dude!

Exactly! Sadly, the statist mindset of "big government can fix all of my problems" that dominates these progressive states is rapidly migrating across the country. Honestly, I only hope that the liberty grabbing statists continue or escalate their power grabs. At least in this manner, it is undeniable and will force red blooded Americans to react. Half of the country wouldn't know it if Stalin was in power (nor would they care as long as the check came). The other half needs to be passionately pissed off as these statist attempt to dominate their birthright; this land and our god given liberties was paid for with the blood of our forefathers and they are not negotiable just because some liberal pusssies feel unsafe. If you live in CA, how much are you willing to take? Don't mind asking the state if a BBQ is OK to light today? What about the state being able to restrict and monitor your electricity usage? Is it fun to be regulated on every single aspect of your life? Is it fun being the social outcast if you are a white male family guy that believes in his country and family values? Now we're further restricting your gun rights because it has been ops tested in Chicago with great success. By 2020, you won't even know what the 2nd Amendment is in CA, MD, NY, etc. When is enough?

I concur. A step in the right direction is so much better than another step in the wrong direction. I grew up in Northern California, I know how screwed up this can end up. I would hate to see all of the beautiful places go to shame following Marxist ideals. The foothills in North Cal would be my idea of paradise, except for everything California! I thought maybe Colorado was a place I could go to; recent trends made me think otherwise. I'm going to Idaho or Wyoming- my guns and views are welcome there.

Saddle up for Syria? Or Op Deny Christmas '13
Vprdrvr69 replied to brickhistory's topic in General Discussion
I'm afraid to say that we're not as strong as we like to claim either...not to mention that the hardware and humans are tired as hell after 12 years of non-stop multi-theater war. Russia and Iran can get away with poking us in the eye some because we're too damn tired to give a shit or really do anything effective about it. While our military might is still the most superior, these naïve views that a compilation of our enemies couldn't put a world of hurtin' on us is dangerous. As for Iranian involvement, they don't have much to lose. At least if they jump into a fight that has already been started, they can plan out and get in a few sucker punches. The way I see it with our politicians (left and right), Iran is fukked either way. Our GOP debate on foreign policy turned into an idiotic argument over who could destroy Iran the fastest with the biggest bombs! The bobbleheads on the left have proven the single sided nature of our foreign policy (Obama has been Bush on steroids); Iran should be worried that we are going to destroy them, I don't see anyone in the US arguing that we shouldn't. With this Syria debacle front and center, we can see Mr. Noble Peace Prize winners' stance on military action. All boils down to foreign policy; if we hadn't screwed their country over royally back around 1950, likely everything would look totally different. We made the bed. Avoid the foreign entanglements dammit. It's not sensationalism, its patriotic emotionalism and concern for her country. I feel it too. Fear mongering? Why, because she is terrified of this president taking us to war in another middle east shit hole for no justifiable valid reason, with no clear objectives, and ABSOLUTELY nothing to gain (but everything to lose)? As for WW3, do we get to determine who jumps into the fight? Our intervention and entanglements have infuriated many countries around the world; if we can't win a 12 year war against the cave dweller on his land then what chances do we have of achieving an undefined goal against a collaborated group of our sworn enemies on their soil? We don't get to determine how this escalates nor do we get to say who gets to jump in. If I said regional war would that be better? Maybe it'll just be another success story like Iraq or Vietnam? Much better. -
You navy or AF? For the most part, hot as balls and smells like shit but the food is pretty decent. Depending on your service and who you work for, living conditions are a mixed bag. Working for SOCOM? If so, I once saw over 20 MF's stuffed in a tent with AC that would go inop every day at noon. if your the young enlisted army guy you get a sweet CLU and drink three a day. Since your on this forum, I can assume your probably an AF flyer so...no beer for you! Score some khat from the locals, you'll be fine! (I kid, I kid)

Wow, good on Colorado for reversing a pretty negative trend towards being good stewards of liberty and gun rights. Looks like two congress people got the boot over there idiotic gun control votes. Hopefully this sends a message. This gives me a little bit of hope. Just a little. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2013/09/10/colorado-recall-election-results/2796373/

Nice! This is my favorite thread especially when I see posts like yours. There is hope. I'm starting to fish out opportunities so that hopefully I can submit PC papers soon. Crazy with your stats and AFSC, I thought Chang said that all of the fighter pilots were going to be thrilled to take the new bonus and would be sticking around. Shocking... To feed the thread, had a K11S buddy just get a PC approved that took about 10 months off his ADSC (from AFT ADSC).

Saddle up for Syria? Or Op Deny Christmas '13
Vprdrvr69 replied to brickhistory's topic in General Discussion
Wow, that pretty much summed it up. Don't confuse conservatives with party line GOP, there is large and diverging difference. I thought her tone was spot on and well controlled. The facts, lies, and hypocrisy make me sick to my stomach and embarrassed that this country reelected this person to a second term (let alone the first term). What's even more embarrassing are the people he surrounds himself with. Her points and projections are accurate; dumb and dumber could lead us (from behind of course) straight into WW3 if we're not careful. And to think, this time last year, almost to the day, I was raging with hostilities over the lies and bullshit emanating from these same people while our brothers died a grizzly death while being left out in the cold. Class act Mr President, class act. -

I think the answer to this mess is for us to stay the hell out! Everything we entangle ourselves in turns to mess. Our foreign policy is so broken and this will prove to be simply the latest chapter in a book of failures. The senior WH official talking out of his ass, swearing that this is Assad's chemical act with evidence that proves it, while saying that three days of UN delays will prove any evidence at the site useless, makes me question the story even more. Not that the story makes sense from any angle (as others have pointed out already). We (WH bobble heads) are positive that Assad's military carried this out even though we don't have a shred of evidence. Shocking. Common sense and objective thinking says otherwise. The only folks that have shown this type of pure disregard for innocent lives are the various barbaric factions that comprise the Syrian rebel groups. Reference the multitude of decapitations, road-side assassinations, etc. scattered across the internet for examples and grotesque illustrations. Our foreign intervention and covert entanglements led to what we currently hate about Iran. Our explorations In Vietnam were a huge success, and that started with a fairy tale much like this one likely will prove to be. How about our dealings with the Freedom Fighters a couple decades later in Afghanistan? Fast forward to Iraq and what a utopian paradise we turned that place into. We're still confused about what we're doing in Afghanistan now, so we might just walk away and call that a success too. I guess the US sponsored Arab Spring is the real model of success that we are looking to craft in Syria. Those are working out beautifully in places like Egypt. We're on a roll, why stop now? Our country is bled dry and needs CPR. Another wasted war in another wasteland is not the lifeline we need right now. What exactly is our objective if we go in? How do we define success and when do we exit? Will we even ask these questions? If only we had leaders that understood this or cared. Instead, here we go marching into Syria (it's good for economic spending right) wasting more valuable resources to replace one tyrannical government with a lawless group of Islamic fundamentalist that will rage a civil war well into the future; well past the our attention span. This'll be fun. -
QDR General: USAF Must Rethink Strategies

The type of leadership and guidance we're hungry for. I think his words are spot on. It's crazy what a small USAF it is; this dude was the OG when I was at UPT. He was a guest help IP that taught me acro. Total Santa Clause and a great ######ing guy to look up to. Seems like they have been further and fewer ever since... -
Air Force 2027: Fewer Pilots, More Drones, More Challenges
Vprdrvr69 replied to hobbitcid's topic in General Discussion
I try to only post after drinking heavily. Historically this was extremely infrequent, but it is becoming a much more common event. Everyone bear with me here, it's going to get ugly. You must be high! You work in the land of endless cash and limitless dreams apparently. The fact is, this country is drowning in debt! Trying to justify that a predator is worth $5 million bucks over a $1 million dollar manned asset that performs at 5 times the level is ludicrous. You sir are misinformed and stuck in the land of make-believe. I get that idiots want to keep pushing this technology as the only future while there is only a limited future in it. The future may not be manned fighters (or aircraft for that matter), but it isn't these things either. The entire future is wasted if all of the eggs are in this RCA bullshit basket. Generals, politicians, and contractors love 'em. Since you ended up talking about CAS, ask any JTAC in the world if he would rather an A-10, or a goddamn UAV. YGBFSM. No fear of being non-vol'd to those things here; you wouldn't want to send me there. I speak too many truths and rock too many boats. Integrity first right? Just speaking some truths from experience here to help educate folks that either don't have any real-world experience or are stuck in REMF land (perhaps like yourself). There are SERIOUS limitations that make the Pred and Reaper serious limfacs and pure examples of F/W/A. Aside from staying airborne for a day at a time and providing limited data, they are not that valuable. They really aren't. You'll see why they are so loved from senior brass below, where I reference how our USAF tenet has gone horribly wrong. OK, I have first hand knowledge of this occurring and apparently so do a few others that replied to your post. Whoever you are, you are ill-informed. There are a few wars going on (that's not a typo) and some of us have spent the better part of the last decade fighting them. Sorry if you got left out. Why wouldn't it surprise you that someone forgot to call in on their final clearance? Why would someone releasing a weapon inadvertently IN A STACK be on the JTAC? Seriously? From any weapon employing platform that would be absolutely unacceptable! Firing a missile through a stack without getting VERBAL clearance from the control authority and without deconfliction is ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE! I hope that is what they teach in RCA land. That is how this event happened- more than once. For your last question, keep reading for the drunken finale... I'm a fighter pilot because I earned it, not because I still fly it. Maybe in the Guard the privilege will return. Maybe not. The other stories you are reading do not come from fighter pilots but from other folks with first hand knowledge flying other relevant aircraft. I wouldn't be surprised if other pointy nose fellas jump in and share an experience or two as well; I know they have some. Keep hoping for those court martials. They aren't happening nor should they, at least for the JTAC or Wardens. I'm not putting all of the blame on Pred operators either (not all of it). You sir, are living in the land of theory and textbook application of how USAF warfare is SUPPOSED to be applied. Welcome to the present, where centralized control and CENTRALIZED execution reign supreme. You have dipshits like GC directing virtual 9 lines that make no sense whatsoever and are being sent from half of a world away. They love Pred porn and being able to micro manage aircraft in a stack where the action is. They do have authority and make the choices that lead to events you don't hear about. That's how your damn Hellfire ends up blitzing through a stack. Don't blame the warden, and don't blame the JTAC (if there was even one even there). Mix in non-military actors and the fun escalates exponentially! Nine-lines make sense during CAS, but in todays screwed up land of Generals running tactical missions without ground troops, those same CAS procedures somehow end up being used for air-interdiction strike missions that have nothing to do with TICs or JTACs. It's about as effective as the current administration running economic policy or Diane Feinstein debating FOR the second amendment. Good on you for reading the books about how it should be, now go get some experience related to how it actually is. ///play clowncar music/// I reread this post three times, and it illustrates truths but does not violate OPSEC. It covers things we don't want to talk about (but should); it doesn't hurt anyone but ourselves if we don't recognize these problems and fix them. Fix 'em GC, you're an aviator right? -
Not so much for Navs, but quite a few front seaters tried and were swiftly denied. There is no way out, hence the reason folks jumped on anything they could to buy time and kill ADSC. 100% spot on. Manning will never be right because the higher ups are too busy serving themselves and moving along. Manning has been a wreck since inception of the program. Out is your only option and most everyone there knows it; the good commanders will tell you so. It sucks. Dipshits like Gen Chang the Wang wonder why dudes are disenfranchised. Desk flying cocksuckers like him haven't had to deal with shit like this hence the reason he is so clueless. Of course he hasn't been busy actually fighting a war either (powerpoint doesn't count). I stopped feeding that troll. The guys who seemed to fall on their swords (sts) and went to Clovistan are indeed doing well. Sadly, when those guys took the assignment it was only to get out of U-28s and pad the resumes or get -130 quals. Many of those guys have since picked up many more hours, type ratings, and ATP's amongst other sweet resume builders. Don't kid yourself, they will still add to the ridiculous tally of SO folks tossing in papers soon. As for the count on U-28 guys opting out of a miserable assignment to U-28's at Cannon, I suspect it will be 99% of those eligible to drop papers. Eventually AFSOC will stop giving orders to those eligible and will feed on the younger guys (sts). This way everyone gets completely bitter. The final count will probably be closer to 30-40. Those that do have to take the orders will be done after that assignment anyhow. Excellent leadership Big Blue. If you were a company you would be so completely bankrupt. I do believe General Cockbag is a senior leader because the shoe fits and he would see the wisdom in sending everyone he can to Cannon. By sending guys out there, Blue didn't solve anything and this problem will continue to cause trouble a few more years down the road. Kick the can right Blue? Far more. Folks in the know please do pass data points. Shack! Thank (former) Governor Bill Richardson to start with. The corruptness and fraud amongst the politicians is staggering. Unfortunately, the influence upon our higher seniors (right GC) is significant. Politicians and spineless leaders are the reason we have Cannon. The airspace sucks, the range sucks, the routes suck, the area is miserable, and manning is a complete debacle. GC, how is Cannon helping our readiness state in AFSOC? At least we got the west-coast SO base to be close to the users right? What a joke, all of it.

Air Force 2027: Fewer Pilots, More Drones, More Challenges
Vprdrvr69 replied to hobbitcid's topic in General Discussion
I am not too worried about being replaced by these things anytime too soon. Anyone that is familiar with these UAV's understands their actual capabilities and limitations. While the media and retard Generals wet themselves over these RC toys, their use and contribution still pales in comparison to manned aircraft. The one great advantage they do offer is loiter time. Ask anyone who has a ton of experience down range how many near mid-air's they have had with these RC airplanes. Look at the crash rates per sortie for UAV's. It is atrocious and it has not improved. Something as simple as a failed alternator will take these tinker toys down. Pay attention to these toys when dudes on the ground are getting shot at; they're too busy staring at the ######ing wings because god forbid a $5 million dollar aircraft encounter a few clouds or some trace icing. They fall out of the sky. Of course they won't tell that they're staring at wings, because they are only talking on the internet chat room. See how many of these three letter agency UAV's can't even talk to ATC because the radios suck balls. Finally, ask around and see if anyone else has experienced the random "hellfire going off through the stack" bullshit. Aside from the accidents and deaths that will be associated with these shitballs falling out of the sky, flying them in the NAS will be entertaining because the truths will come out. Problem is, exactly what is the purpose for this? I don't remember them staring at many things we didn't plan to attack or kill. -
Take a peek at APC for hiring stats on each Major Legacy airline. Of the six posted, five are hiring or planning on hiring in 2013. Included in this is Delta and United, both of which are hiring a considerable amount now. For those lacking the hours or competitive resumes, have no fear. American Eagle is picking up 600+ this year. I'm not raving about airlines, I don't think I have any desire to go that way. Facts are facts. The USAF has porked it away and the airlines will need the bodies. it will be funny as hell to watch.

...hence the reason 11S is at the very top of the stressed AFSC list (in red). But nothing to see there according to A1.
