  1. Yea, I figured not to trust TV but had to ask. I'm not gay or a SEAL (the only possibly explanations for being in the navy...) so I'm not up to speed on navy C&C. Does anyone actually know the answer?
  2. Interasante...I guess that never came up as her code is right next to mine geographically...good luck man b/c you're getting the shaft by not being able to share minutes, etc. Between free mobile-to-mobile, nights and weekends, etc. we usually rack up about 120 minutes a month max. Plus there's rollover so it becomes kinda superfluous... Dude! Apple RULZ!!!! j/k but seriously, I love my mac/iphone combo...still have an xbox though
  3. Wow, what a b*tch thing to say to a guy who clearly knows about respect and C&C. On a related thought, is it a navy thing to use "sir" for female commanders? i.e. (female skipper) "Bring ye' ole' vessel hard about to portside and swab the decks and bulkheads." (lowley seamen) "Yes sir!" Seen it on TV and it seemed odd...
  4. I'm not a buff guy, but there are two nav seats (nav and radar nav) downstairs and an EWO seat upstairs. From what I understand the idea is to train to a point where a guy can move interchangeable between all three seats sometime in the mid-term future. Radar nav is sort of an upgrade from regular nav as well. Buff guys feel free to correct as necessary. In terms of UAVs, my squadron CC briefed all the CSOs down here that UAVs were a follow-on possibility. The rules on whether you need a instrument rating or what training you'd have to do are very dynamic so I'm not up on the latest gouge, but either way it's possible if that's something you want to explore after your first tour.
  5. That's crazy dude, my wife and I def have different area codes and we combined out plans like 3 years ago without a question asked. I'd reattack that with a new person if possible... Agreed that iPhone plans are expensive compared with Sprint everything plan. Used to be sprint but changed to get iPhone 3G when it came out. Haven't looked back since though b/c iPhone is undeniably sweet and feeds my time-wasting tendencies (Flight Control, watching videos, posting on baseops...)
  6. 3 (or 4 or whatever...) on not limiting your options to what sounds bad ass (i.e. your top 3 all make bad guys go boom). All the platforms have their ups and downs and you might be surprised what piques your interest. They'll be plenty of briefs at nav school on the different platforms available and the INs there have flown just about everything that you can drop right now. It's great to have an idea of what you want but that choice is a long way off and just go in with an open mind. Good luck!
  7. House Committee Adds $369 million for 12 more F-22s First off, it's not enough to actually buy the jets, just to keep the lines hotter than ice cold shut down. More interesting to me is the prohibition on retiring the -15s and -16s that are on the chopping block down the road. Big props though for making the amount of money authorized end in 69
  8. Can we go over what the artist looked like real quick? If anyone could pull off some crazy sh*t like drugging someone and then tatting their face, it would be a dude who looks like that... P.S. - great reference to the N64 Pilotwings by Contrail

    Gun Talk

Holy crap, reply #1,001. I don't even own a gun right now and I still felt the need to post here. Here's to you guns
  11. Honestly it's not gonna be any different than UPT. When you have -38 dudes flying heavies or tone guys flying UAVs, their specific training isn't nearly as useful as the skills learned having survived the process of flying training. The stuff I learned in nav school is about 10% applicable to my current job, but it's no big deal because that's what the FTU is for. The current track select in nav school only has studs in specialized training for like 4 weeks, hardly enough to make me trust one guy over another as an EW expert just because his name tag is red and black. I think it's gonna help with the numbers game of filling nav/ewo/wso/cso seats without a noticeable loss of student capability because as it stands you don't know sh*t until you're mission qual and have a deployment or two under your belt anyways.
  12. Take a defense economics class, it's a lot more complicated than that. Those $500 toilet seats did not actually cost $500, but a contract for 10 of them cost $5000 so it appears that way when you apply a little statistical manipulation. You can make statistics say anything! You answered why the government didn't do this, wtf do you do with 2 million cars? And GM isn't failing just because they aren't selling enough cars; they're failing because their healthcare, retiree, and dealer costs are constantly going up to the point where their profit margin didn't have enough slack in it to weather a sharp downturn like the one we're in right now. If the economy hadn't sh*t the bed GM wouldn't be bankrupt but the would still be rotten on the inside so to speak but it would be out of the public eye.
  13. So THAT'S what that zipper is for...
  14. You don't happen to go to a school in DC do you? PM me if you do b/c it sounds curiously close to a school I went to...good luck getting a delay, no dice for me in a similar situation back in '07.
  15. If it's a repost feel free to delete, but saw this on AF news and figured it deserved it's own topic. Source Twice-a-year PT tests will start in January Guess we'll all be having fun busting our a$$ twice per year now. Plus, couldn't they have called the new assessment guys something other than FACs??
  16. Kinda sounds like that triple team me and my boys put on your mom last night...zing! Yea, that's 1/2 the excitement. If I was a Wombat guy I'd be freaking thrilled at the potential to put smoking holes in some bad guys (sts) along with the current MC mission sets.
  17. Yea...all that "backseat" time. Oh wait...maybe it was all that "stick time" as a newly minted pilot that turned them to the other team ;) P.S. - F-U to the guys who said this C-17 guy had nothing to do with DADT when I posted his story originally on the F-15E guy thread. I present as evidence this thread, extorting how because of him, the entire C-17 community is now Good riddance to a guy who was apparently a D-bag. I say get rid of all douches and keep the dudes like the -15 guy who was apparently The Man. I call my new policy "Don't Ask, Don't be a Douhebag." The don't ask won't be a factor because guys who are douches make it apparent.

    Booze Talk

Pretty spot on recommendations. Svedka is a good substitute for smirnoff with the bonus that it doesn't burn as much and Tito's is a good swap for Goose or anything top shelf. I pretty much only drink vodka (weird I know...) so I've tried my hardest to try them all. My house drink is Finlandia b/c it's spicy somehow, no other way to describe it. Deliciously spicy. Smirnoff if cheap and passable mixed in. Can't stand Absolut or Skyy. Stoli's is really good as well, they make a really good blueberry vodka that kicks ass with juice. Anyways, good thread.
  19. Unfortunately those stereotypes still exist because people at the "top" of the pecking order benefit from those perceptions, and thus either actively work to keep the system in place or at best passively let it continue to exist to their benefit. The people who bitch about it being wrong, which in my opinion it is, are almost always the ones driving things without pointy noses. When that happens, the people at the "top" scoff and say it's just the "bottom" guys whining or being jealous or whatever. It also doesn't help that most GOs tend to be fighter pilots, thus confirming the idea that fighter pilots are the "best" kind of pilots in the AF, with other pilots coming next, then navs, them ABMs, then everyone else under the sun. I mean, how many ABMs are general officers these days? Back on topic, if an ALO is gonna be good at his job and at least has 1/2 a pair, it won't matter much what type of wings he's rockin'. And the way it's going with the new 13LX field, it looks like you won't need wings to do the job effectively at all. Retroactive STS for the references to "top" and "bottom" guys...

Cool pix man...I think it'd be crazy to fly an airplane with basically another airplane strapped to the roof.
  21. Absolutely...got a monthly subscription to audible.com so I can get my audiobook fix for a little less coin. I actually just started carpooling with 2 other buddies that live down the street and although I love saving Mother Earth and all, I miss my "reading" time. Good distraction when walking the dog too...
  22. The Pentagon's New Map - Thomas Barnett Read it probably 4 years back now but it still sticks out as a great vision of how globalization impacts our foreign policy. Also agreed with JS...I had to think kinda hard to come up with the last non-military or foreign policy book I read. It was Born on a Blue Day about a guy who is a savant and could remember a ridiculous amount of numbers by picturing them as colors...pretty good.
  23. To say the least, that would be a target-rich environment for our pointy nosed brothers stationed out there. On the other hand, Seoul is unfortunately close to NK and would be kinda screwed...I still think there's little motivation for an invasion at this point.
  24. I've got a buddy that's about 1/2 way finished with the H-model FCO schoolhouse now and will be moving to cannon after checking out. PM me if you want his email and I'll ask him if he knows when the schoolhouse is gonna move out west.
  25. So you dislike how everything has become politicized but start a thread that criticizes a politician for giving a pretty tame speech calling for people to support the troops?? I'm not tracking... Obviously I'm on the "other side" from most people on here and I'm up for defending my point of view, but that doesn't mean people can't have opinions or support those "evil republicans." Most of my friends in the military are republicans and I don't expect many of them to change their minds on political issues. If you're an independent then I guess that means you can just be criticized by both sides. That's the problem with the two party system, it's hard to support either party when you don't agree with 100% of their views b/c despite all the talk of "big tent" and etc., both parties value ideological purity to some extent as well.
