  1. Lol sure, judge the man by his character, please do that. But the fact that a few dickhead radical bishops, against the wishes of the Pope and outside the mainstream of the church, want to make an example out of certain political leaders who support specific government policies the church consider sinful (keep in mind the leaders are not actually committing the sin themselves!), and are doing so by refusing to distribute a sacrament given as a gift from God…yea ok, that’s not the same as some pilot being like, “Hey that guy is unsafe.” There are over 5,600 bishops in the Catholic Church and ~1.3 billion members of the church in general, I’m sure there is not a single person on earth who is liked/trusted/loved/etc. by every single other member! This ain’t a flying squadron with 25 bros who can and should all know each other in detail and mostly get along. The core of the issue re: being refused communion by some bishops is not “Biden is amoral.” You might believe that, but that’s not what the small handful of bishops I’m talking about believe. The religious issue in question is that a handful of bishops are indeed dickhead radicals who have misinterpreted the purpose of the sacrament and have gone against the explicit wishes of the leader of their church and want to make an example out of people they have never even met, let alone known and ministered to and shepherded toward a closer relationship with God. It’s an internal pissing match, and if you are not Catholic nor Christian nor religious at all, you don’t need to GAF about who eats what crackers where 😅 Of all the things to hate Biden for or critique, saying he is a “bad Catholic” is the stupidest one I’ve ever heard, especially if you are not Catholic yourself. Too old, check. Sloppy with classified, check. Said many dumb things over the last 40 years, check. Democrat, check (if that’s a negative in your book). Critique away there. But this man has a sincere belief in God and has practiced his chosen faith well and with good intentions for his entire life AFAIK, I have a very hard time finding fault there.
  2. 🤷‍♂️ I’m not even that religious and am about 69% sure that a lot of stuff in Christianity and Catholicism and all religions is made up bullshit. But some of it isn’t, and as a moral and ethics and community-building system there are way worse ones to choose from than being Catholic. I’m also a big fan of stoicism FWIW and I think in particular a Jesuit-flavored Catholicism + stoicism is a great foundation for living a good and moral life, although whatever works for you in achieving that end, be my guest. Understanding religion is also pretty fundamental to understanding humans, so I do my best to learn. Catholicism happened to be the faith of my family, so I chose to do all the Catholic sacraments as an adult and I go to church now with my extended family even while not necessarily drinking the kook aid or forcing it on my kids. They can choose to believe whatever they want so long as they grow up to be good people. But FWIW what I described before is a fairly mainstream Catholic view. I’m not sure what about my post was particularly distressing, unless you’re a tradcath who hates Pope Francis and Vatican II and Biden and etc. My previous post was mostly an inside-baseball comment on the idea of denying Catholic communion to political leaders for their political beliefs, since that applies in particular to our current President. If you’re not Catholic or religions at all you can safely give zero Fs about the whole thing! /religious commentary off
  3. Are you Catholic or speculating (or both?) The rules, beliefs and norms of the Church vary widely across the world and are very, very much debated and reinterpreted all the time! It’s absolutely not an unchanging set of very clear beliefs and it never, never has been since the time of Jesus and the apostles themselves. When bishops disagree on a big issue it all becomes a bit unclear, wouldn’t you say? They’re all bishops, who is right? When bishops disagree with the Pope, it reflects the diversity of opinion in a global and universal church! That’s the most generous interpretation. The less generous interpretation is that random activist bishops should feel free to STFU unless they are making a ruling for a resident of their particular diocese AND they’re willing to admit they’re openly defying the Pope because of how important the issue is. Do those bishops deny communion to murders in prison? To those who don’t help the poor? To those who haven’t followed any other number of God’s commandments and Jesus’ teachings? My opinion as a lay Catholic is that communion is a sacrament between God and the person receiving it, and whether it’s “valid” and sanctifying or not is between God and that person, not the minister who happens to be handing out the host. By all means, preach that abortion is a sin, that is the teaching of the Church. But to deny communion over one particular sin and really not for any other is a much bigger issue actually. The Pope is on the record as saying Biden should continue receiving communion and is a “good Catholic.” Last time I checked, he’s in charge of the Church. Case open and shut for me at least.
  4. Some bishops have said that is their policy in their dioceses. Biden receives communion at least weekly in DC and/or Delaware AFAIK and probably did so from the Pope himself in 2021. Some bishops truly are the uptight, fussy, clerical little princes of their territories and enact some truly anti-catholic policies IMHO. Not very good pastors if that’s a policy hill you’re willing to die on.
  5. Biden is Catholic lol, that’s about how my white ass would look rolling up to Ebenezer Baptist in the middle of a service too 😅 In nomeni patri et fili et spiritus sancti, amen ✝️🇮🇪🇮🇹
  6. Here it is, pass it on!
  7. NGL, this sounds like perfectly normal human behavior. I don’t see anything sinister about different media companies jumping on a VTC about a big story but then retaining the freedom (and exercising it!) to present the story in their own way for their own audiences. 🤷‍♂️ If you don’t like how a particular journalist or network presents the news, luckily today you have more alternatives to choose from than ever before. I would argue the media today is freer from government interference and less likely to acquiesce to government requests and spin than in the past, even while simultaneously they are more ideological and partisan in all directions. Hell, lots of people didn’t know FDR was in a wheelchair!
  8. Glad the Russians (at least the ones in their embassy in Sweden!) are fully on board with remembering that Crimea is part of Ukraine 🤣 I would recommend whoever posted this ask for ground-floor accommodations whenever traveling from here on out. Hotel windows are so easy to fall out of!
  9. You can 🤷‍♂️ While you’re at it, ask bashi why it’s bad that the lizard people at the WEF are instructing their wealthy minions to Hoover up all the wealth extra-hard over the last two years…‘twas not I that brought this up as a problem to be solved.
  10. And if you're upset with the rich continuing to amass ever growings and disproportionate sums of wealth, there's one weird trick that you have to see to believe! It's called tax the rich. I'm super on board with discussing the best ways we can do that without overly damaging the capitalist economic engine that has put our country and our allies on top, but this is weird thread to do that in since it has nothing to do with COVID.
  11. It's not "zero influence" and it's not "lizard people pulling all the strings on a world-wide conspiracy." They're an organization of people working toward certain outcomes you may or may not agree with at any one time. I wouldn't even call the WEF and WHO particularly overly powerful organizations all things considered. Nowhere near the CCP, Vladimir Putin's random whims, the Fed and ECB, or the U.S. executive branch for example. You're just not making a super compelling case that Børge Brende, head of the WEF for the last 5 years and who I had to google despite having several degrees & above average interest in international studies, is some kind of incredibly powerful overlord actually controlling Joe Biden, Mitch McConnell, Xi Jinping, Ursula von der Leyen, etc. I mean the guy looks like a total dweeb or what you would get if you asked an AI to generate an image of a Norwegian politician. And I will happily, mercilessly mock people who believe in wildly bullshittenous conspiracy theories because it's fun and funny, I'm not that sorry. Fear, sarcasm, and ridicule...it's truly an all-time great combo for getting some folks to learn.
  12. See this is what I’m talking about. This is just not the case and most of y’all know it. Some other things being discussed, yea, that’s just groups of humans organizing themselves for a shared goal. That’s what civilization is fundamentally. Can be toward good ends or bad ones and those definitions depend on your perspective. I vote we encourage and supper the good groups and discourage and work against the bad ones, real ground breaking stuff I know. What I’m saying is there are not lizard people eating babies and pulling the strings of global power from the WHO or whatever. If you have any passing familiarity with large organizations you should know that all is extremely unlikely just due to how hard it is to get big orgs to all row in the same direction on completely mundane things, let alone massive secret conspiracies for world domination. p.s. - ::whispers:: Hail Hydra 🤣
  13. Dudes, again, there’s no grand conspiracy. Occam’s razor - it’s always fog of war, happenstance, bad SA, and incompetence. Very very rarely is there an actual conspiracy. Over and over again throughout history this has been true. Being a military member you know full well how unorganized and grabasstic even our best institutions can be. Except Epstein definitely didn’t kill himself 😅, that’s the only recently conspiracy theory I unironically believe is true.
  14. The DNC could not lead themselves out of a wet paper bag. I am just never ever convinced of conspiracies like that. Occam’s razor, Biden dealt with a lot of classified as VP and fucked up having taken some of it out of approved storage locations when he left office. Take it from a Democrat that if the DNC were strategic and competent and capable of a big conspiracy to push aside a sitting President, we would have done much better in quite a few elections I can remember! 😅
  15. Not really, it's just not a fun/productive/worthwhile conversation. Which is unfortunate because we know each other IRL and I like talking with you! I'm 100% sure I am a bit more of an self-righteous asshole online than in person, but yea...so are you my friend 🍺 My desire to ever comment on, think about, or bring up Hillary Clinton ever again in my entire life is zero, and I humbly advise you to consider adopting that policy too. BLUF on the issue: What Donald Trump did with classified documents was bad, and should be investigated, and is. What Joe Biden did with classified documents was bad, and should be investigated, and is.
  16. I want to believe!
  17. I don’t! TBH stop @ ing me for things I’m not involved in. This isn’t a productive conversation if you just want to yell at me (and the clouds) for things I have not said nor done. I am not condoning, hand waiving, or anything around Biden’s classified docs situation. It’s not great! Let’s have the appointed special prosecutor lead a fair investigation using whatever LEOs he’d like. No one is above the law.
  18. I’m not a lawyer but yea, that seems fair to at this point have the special prosecutor and whatever LEOs he chooses do the searches. There is some nuance between voluntarily cooperating with the Archives and rechecking your docs for compliance vs a long-running pissing match compete with lawsuits and ignoring subpoenas…but at the end of the day yea, you probably want supervised or LEO-led searches and verification that all classified has been secured. Honestly I’m not sure what that isn’t done with every doc and hard drive taken out of official storage locations when these guys leave office…
  19. I am not affiliated with the Biden WH, I don’t get why you are yelling at me, that’s my point. My long standing belief is these types of investigations need to be conducted fairly and that belief holds here.
  20. I love how everyone always thinks it’s some big coordinated DNC conspiracy lol. The DNC couldn’t conspiracy their way out if a wet paper bag.
  21. Get rid of single-member districts and first past the post winners, that would help quite a bit. RCV or preference voting with instant runoffs and multi-member districts, plus expand the size of the House, and get rid of the electoral college. I am favor of all those things even though I’m perfectly comfortable in one of the existing parties!
  22. Biden’s classified docs issue should be handled the same as Trump’s, i.e. investigated by proper authorities. Not obstructed, no frivolous law suits, no ignoring subpoenas. DOJ already appointed a special prosecutor. 🤷‍♂️ let the man cook and see what comes out. @ClearedHot I mean, are you sitting around waiting for me to comment or something? I’m not Biden’s press secretary 😅
  23. “Hey we’re going to invade your country, but if you try to fight us in our country we’ll be BIG MAD.” Lol…that’s not the statement you put out when you’re winning. Slava Ukraini!
  24. @filthy_liar I appreciate it, and esp if you're very rich...I'm listening 🍆😆 Everyone has a price ,and anyone who says otherwise is lying to themselves & just hasn't heard a big enough number yet.
