Study: Nuclear Force Feeling 'Burnout' from Work
nsplayr replied to M2's topic in General Discussion
There's absolutely a difference between Pass/Fail with the bar set at 90% and an implicit or explicit requirement that everyone get 100% on every test in their career. Pass/Fail with a 90% threshold means you can miss a couple now and then and not see your career go to shit...that in theory definitely should reduce the feeling that cheating is necessary. Now let's add non-ridiculous test questions and do away with the "No mistake Air Force" mentality (even in nukes) and I guarantee you the problem will be 69% solved. -
Amen. See attached for a .ppt I recently saw on writing performance reports. Written by a current WG/CC back when he was somewhere between O-5 and O-6 based on the date. Great insight into how he, and I imagine many senior raters, do the dirty work of getting these reports done. Names/dates/location info have been redacted to protect the innocent/guilty depending on how you see it. Writing Performance Reports.ppt

Thanks for posting man! Tell the U-28 to Cannon guy to PM me if he has any questions or wants any info on the community or the Land of Enchantment out west. Looks like a great drop BTW.

Electronic flight bags could boost operational safety, effectiveness
nsplayr replied to ClearedHot's topic in Squadron Bar
Can you enable "simple pass code?" That will let you just do a 4 digit number instead. Concur with the rest...it's been a big boy program at the sq level. We utilize a CHUB server (STS) to sync squadron docs wirelessly via goodreader. You can put all the personal stuff you want on the EFB as well as use any app you can download. There are also several verizon mifi pucks around the building you can use to update your pubs on goodreader and 2x MacBook laptops for updating flip via phaero. -
Clark, I have to ask...Mr. Farley whom you constantly link to obviously has an axe to grind. I can't say I've seen a drumbeat to 'abolish the air force' from a lot of serious sources. Honestly this thread and the War is Boring blog posts by Farley are about it. You say yourself that most of the time you disagree with him, and even in Farley's latest article on the B-52s or Iran, he acknowledges several times that the suggestion by Deptula et al is likely just that, a strategic suggestion rather than an actual plan that will ever happen. Farley's main critique of doing that is that (sic) "retired officers shouldn't spout nonsense about airpower." Pot, I'd like you to meet kettle. So finally to my question...why do you care so much to link to Farley's stories so often? While I enjoy reading a variety of news sources online, I'd file him and his blog posts under "some idiot on the internet" and call it a day.

12 FTW/CV loses job over 'inappropriate' emails

Saw an awesome ops SQ/CC fired at HRT and it was a damn shame. Edit: poor auto-correct Edit to add: guess there was more too it...still sucks, the timing was well after the fact, and pretty much every "bro level" dude still believes the whole incident was sketchy. IMHO doesn't speak well to the higher-level CC who could not effectively communicate to his subordinates why something was going down. -
I think AFSOC is some kind of special circle of hell on this issue. YouTube is blocked 69% of the time, BO.net forums are blocked always, etc. The only saving grace recently has been the approval of EFBs on the vault. Problem finally solved, no thanks to the computer nazis.
-
AFSOC needs a significant update... - MC-130Ws are now AC-130Ws - CV-22s have been at Mildenhall since June 2013 - U-28s now have an operational squadron at Cannon - NSAv's AD inventory should be PC-12s and DO-328s, Dash-8 and Skytrucks are gone from CVS

FY 14 Force Management Program (RIF, VSP, TERA)
nsplayr replied to AOF_ATC's topic in General Discussion
I've seen this come up in several posts in this thread in particular. I don't know you chizz so nothing personal but /rant on Are you guys fucking serious? I hope there is a good bit of "10% truth" when dudes claim that their productivity has plummeted and all they do is job surf and check AFPC systems. I 7-day opted an assignment, got sent anyways and am currently navigating the Palace Chase process; I get it...hell I think anyone with half a brain thinks this force management process (and many things about the Air Force) is totally fucked. But come on, there's still a job to do and I signed on the dotted line to do it. No one has been stop-lossed or has missed a paycheck. If anyone who worked for or with me stopped doing their job and was constantly job searching while at work, they wouldn't be slacking off for very long. Be an officer, nut up and give the job your all until the day you hang it up, whether that's 20+ or just until your most lengthy sentence is served. Serious question: do guys claiming they're basically ROAD not feel responsible for their units mission or mentoring younger guys to take their place? Where I come from both of those things are important and full-time jobs unto themselves. All this might be a minority opinion but it needs to be said...hopefully by front line supervisors and Commanders and not just some guy in the internet. /rant off -
Sending in some CV-22s. I hear that country's tourism slogan is, "Uganda love it here!" Africa is just lovely this time of year, enjoy the trip guys!

FY 14 Force Management Program (RIF, VSP, TERA)
nsplayr replied to AOF_ATC's topic in General Discussion
AFNET still intermittently fraggs out email, sharepoint and/or PEX here at CVS and most people got migrated over a month ago...I'm sure it'll be totally smooth over there at AFPC and that the impact on force shaping actions will be minimal! /sarcasm I'm pretty sure AFNET is the beta version of Skynet. I for one welcome our new robot overloards. -
I know it's been said many times before, but is it 100% true that you can transfer your GI bill in the guard, even as a TR? Seems like that's a way lower cost than 4 more years on AD...especially since all the guard guys I've talked to have said "there aren't commitments in the guard, if you wanna leave then leave." Anyone done this recently (i.e. left AD, transferred GI bill on day 1 at the guard)? It just seems too good to be true.

Desolation: "a state of complete emptiness or destruction;" either one works. Maybe I was influenced by this...I imagine the dragon is A1 blowing fiery bullshit on people's dreams.
-
Is this actually true? p.s. - agreed...WTF; seems really dumb. If you (i.e. the AF) is having trouble filling CSO/ABM/RPA then perhaps they need to offer incentives rather than, once again, try to coerce people who truly only want to be pilots...just a thought. p.p.s. - also if CSO manning is a problem why isn't there a bonus? To me no bonus = manning problem not that severe. Hell, 12M was slated to get desolated under the RIF matrices. Smoke and mirrors standing in for personnel problems as usual.

Valid...will def pass to the LTs in my squadron that are +1 in life.

FY 14 Force Management Program (RIF, VSP, TERA)
nsplayr replied to AOF_ATC's topic in General Discussion
The rub is that if A) all RIF-eligible airmen will be eligible for voluntary programs and B) pilots in the 2005-2008 timeframe are RIF-eligible, then what voluntary programs exactly are they eligible for? Obviously not TERA, Palace Chase has always been open...so VSP? Unclear the way I read everything. If pilots were, are and always have been ineligible for VSP specifically because of waiver authority issues in their known UPT ADSCs, why not spell that out clearly in a simple sentence instead of the fucking maze of cross-referenced, always-changing PSDMs? -
Not a real viable option for most posting on here I would imagine... "Those who are not eligible include: Spouses married to service members in pay grades: E-6 and above; W-3 and above; and O-3 and above." Have your wife get on it (sts) while you're an LT I guess? To the OP: Remember this...happy wife, happy life. If she wants to use it and has a good plan then great. If not then f*ck what all the other hens are squawking about and do your own thing as a family.

Investment showdown -- beyond the Roth, SDP, & TSP
nsplayr replied to Swizzle's topic in Squadron Bar
Roth TSP pluses: much higher contribution limits ($17,500 vs $5,500), lowest fees in the industry, G fund is unique to TSP Roth TSP minuses: narrower investment options, more difficult to withdraw the money earlier than traditional retirement age Roth IRA pluses: much broader range of investment options, easier to withdraw contributions before you're old and grey Roth IRA minuses: only $5,500 or $11,000 if you're married per year, fees can be much higher unless you go with someone like Vanguard WIC answer: it depends- 1,190 replies

And HARM only keeps paper records for 3 years, at least at HRT. If you want records older than that good luck b/c they're gone gone gone. Found that one out the hard way.
