That works out great if you have 13 months before flight training, many dudes don't have that, which is what I was getting at. I mean, I know a guy who went to France to get his MA on the AF's dime then started ENJJPT 2 years later, doesn't exactly mean that's a statistically significant data point. Agreed, very quick and easy.

Being a member of the Arizona National Guard did not prove sufficient ties to live in a town in Arizona?? WTFO?

+1 for Welsh, liked his Academy speech very much. And I heard his was off the charts...

dsul413 is right, the classification of the U-28 mission has changed recently, but no one (including myself) really wants to be the first one kicked in the nuts for talking about stuff on the internet. There is more info out there both SIPR obviously as well as unclass now if you're really interested and take the time to do the looking. BL is that IMHO the U-28 has a great mission and the CSO gets to do a lot of things that are somewhat unique when compared to what a nav/EWO/WSO typically does on other platforms. Congrats on that last drop, that looked really, really legit all around. If any of the U-28 dudes are on here from that class, PM me if you want more info ahead of getting your orders to HRT.

Damn man, here's to the fallen . Hope the injured dude gets back on his feet soon.

If your company didn't get the contract and you have legal ways to f-up the other person getting it, why would you not? Seems especially true when you're an American company and your competitor is not, might as well play the patriotism card while you're at it...

This is a great point...the advantage of going unmanned is you can take away all the life support stuff (space, weight, etc.). If you already need that stuff for your cargo (i.e. pax), then why not have a pilot? I can definitely see unmanned cargo jets in the future but agreed that passenger airliners really have no incentive to go pilot-less.
-
Yep, every pilot in my unit is qualified in takeoffs and landings. So in those circumstances, they're adequately trained to briefly operate the airplane at 1mm AGL. That was the point of my hyperbole...it's not about, "people are allowed to fly low in helos..." it's about doing so in appropriate circumstances. You're allowed to fly real f*cking low in a fixed wing aircraft right before you touchdown on an airfield, but generally not anywhere else. So in absolute terms whether it was "low" doesn't mean anything, it's about the context and the context should be unless it's mission-related, you shouldn't do it. Like I said, if it's mission related then cleared hot. This did not appear to be.
-
That totally depends on the situation though. My airplane is certified and verified to fly at 1mm above the ground in the instant right after takeoff and right before landing. That's lower than snakeshit! So is that my minimum altitude if I wanna do a flyby for some Army dudes? Hyperbole yes but you get my point...even if you're allowed to fly low or high or fast or slow or whatever, it should be done for a mission-related reason. I've yet to hear of a mission that involves showing off max performance aircraft capes at random to dudes on the ground in some kind of seat of your pants airshow.

From Toro's story: Sounds like somebody else that used to frequent here...

Electronic flight bags could boost operational safety, effectiveness

Looks awesome...and it better be considering... For that price it'd better either make me a sandwich or blow me, maybe both. -
It might be possible...I know a guy who went sooner. Keep your dreams in mind, but... Lose this attitude ASAP. No one at Pensacola gives a shit that you really, really wanted to be a pilot and neither will anyone at your gaining unit. Like I said before, if you show up as a brand new CSO and are only interested in being a pilot you're experience interacting with other CSOs will probably not be great. The grass is always greener man, there are ups and downs in every job. There are great CSO missions out there, when it comes time to pick concentrate on those rather than what will lead you to the front seat fastest. It sure doesn't sound that way. The biggest thing holding you back from what you want might well be your attitude and that's one of the easiest things to fix. Fix it. If you can't live with being a CSO for minimum of 3-4 years and probably for the rest of your career considering your age, do not complete CSO training, do not pass GO, do not collect $200. If you're really so hard up to be a pilot, DOR, do your 4-6 years as a comm officer or whatever, get out and become a commercial pilot.

I find it unbelievable that the Afghans find it unbelievable that 1 man could kill 16 people all by himself. Well, let's see, it was the middle of the night and he had a semiautomatic rifle...doesn't seem that hard. What I can't believe is that in a country where every one and his mother has an AK-47 under the bed that Sgt. Dumbass made it back to base without getting shot. Who knows, I'm sure the final report will differ significantly from the initial report and especially from what's in the news...

2 years ago our squadron pulled a coup and elected one of our own to be CGOC President without his knowing about it. We had almost every CGO in the squadron vote and it was enough to get him the prestigious position. The guy's callsign was "Teabag" so you know he was the perfect fit. Needless to say he wasn't thrilled but thought it was funny and the VP did all the "work" that year...

Yet another Poser...this time pretending to be a Two Star
nsplayr replied to ClearedHot's topic in Squadron Bar
Dude is so dumb he can't even count to two...single star on those ABUs, 2-star on his "business card." -
Ahh, but it was not written that one would receive equal representation for their level of taxation or vice versa. Oh, who am I kidding...with Citizens United, those with extra disposable income really have plenty of avenues to gain themselves some extra means of "representation" if they so choose. You can't tell me that Sheldon Adelson wouldn't have a little extra "representation" in a Gingrich administration considering he's singularly bankrolled much of the Speaker's campaign. I digress... I agree with you on the TSA lines though...seems like a win-win. Gets people through faster at busy times from what I've seen and people who pay more or fly their asses off a lot deserve a faster lane if the airline is funding that at the airports.
-
True that, it's not a good look for our efforts at extracting some kind, any kind of "victory" from that place.

We found out through the exec mafia on base...had about 69 people working on this at the squadron on Feb 29th.

That's a nice looking drop! Congrats to all. Good to see multiple U-28s as well, tell those guys if they want some gouge to come on here and PM me.

Dude, that's a shame...rock that nasty stache!

Have fun being a copilot! Seriously dude, I get that you love flying but from where you sit now, at the CSO schoolhouse, you either need to bury those feelings deep or get your mind right that you are not a pilot, will not be a pilot in the very near future, and that other people are gonna fly you around for a little while. Buy your own plane and fly on the weekend, that's great, but you need to learn to accept that you're gonna be a CSO and you need to be the best damn CSO you can be if you want a shot at UPT down the line. If you can't handle that you need to find a different path in life. And like I said...if you eventually go to UPT and get heavies, you will be a copilot for several years anyways, letting someone else fly the jet is something you need to be OK with. Like Rainman said, don't pick something you don't want because you think it will work out for you better later. Look at all the jets available to you, choose the one you think sounds the best (mission/location/community/whatever) and take it. You can get UPT from just about anything if you're good at it and have a good attitude, don't take a bad deal now because you think you'll be able to trick-fuck the age waiver system. FWIW we've sent about 3 folks to UPT from the U-28 community so far and they all were both shit-hot dudes who were great CSOs, and they were also who paid their dues in terms of deployments, shitty jobs back at home, and time on station. If you arrive at your gaining unit and immediately want to start applying to UPT you will get shit on by the other CSOs who are out there hacking the mish. Good luck and keep your head down, keep working hard, and you can make your dreams happen, just try not to get ahead of yourself.

Saw this today and figured it belonged here. Many people here (myself included) probably play it a little fast and loose with these rules, especially since most here are also officers and the rules for us are even more restrictive. A good reminder that others are watching and many of them are big-timers who will potentially call you out to your chain of command. Story. Highlight: Um...may need to go read the UCMJ and your enlistment contract again Sgt.

Better hurry...established companies are all over this already. If you can make a better product though I'm 100% behind ya, I know a whole squadron of guys who are figuring out ways to attach iPads to either their legs or random parts of the cabin. -
I know someone who's moving out there and bought a place in west lubbock somewhere. He has high-school aged kids and wanted them to go to Lubbock schools vs. clovis.
