That was a very interesting time in the 317th. The 40th was blessed with a great commander after her. He was our deployed DO and our saving grace in the desert but was pulled home early because of this.

Got me there. Didn't cross the river that much. Did once or twice in the jet though...but I digress. For a Northerner, Del Rio is another world.

I thought Laughlin was pretty damn close to an exchange tour...flying, drinking, but no women!.
-
There's someone doing this gig right now. If you want, I can try to dig up their contact info. Unfortunately I'm on exchange but flying a desk instead of a herk.

Make her buy her own car. But really, what if you end up with an overseas assignment? Are you willing to pay to ship the second car overseas? I'd run that car into the ground until 1) You're married 2) You make it through UPT and 3) You know where you'll be going.

The good ole rock and a hard place for those resisting PME but want to serve and make it to at least 20.

Would more people accept IDE in-correspondence if it solely consisted of the ACSC OLMP as long as the USAF rid itself of the "advanced degree requirement" to make major?

From a C-130J perspective, we looked at hours as well as flying ability before we chose someone for upgrade. We held a few back from upgrade training since we agreed they weren't ready. We also delayed AC certification for some folks, even after passing their checkride, who we thought were ready but flailed during AC upgrade. We did have 3 year copilots, but this was a result of the H to J transition and lack of airframes.

AFSAS is at https://afsas.af.mil. You can also search for AFSAS in the AF Portal. I just signed up for an account. And they denied my access to mishaps since I'm not a safety officer. Go figure.
-
Thanks, didn't know that.
-
That's the unfortunate thing for me, no safety shop here since I'm on an exchange tour. It was actually my brother who is in the C-130J FTU who told me what happened.

I'm curious as to what the 'fix' will be. Most likely another step added to a checklist.

Little Rock is supporting AFRICOM out of two locations. No ops to the sandbox.
-
It's not a Little Rock crew.

Fortunately my prior squadron (61 AS) just returned from Afghanistan. Prayers and wishing it's not bad. Reports say twelve people, five of the dead were U.S. service members that were the crew of the aircraft, five were civilian contractors who were passengers, and two were local Afghan civilians who were killed on the ground. God bless.

Has anyone used FTI in Denver to get their 737 type? I've met two guys that got their types/ATPs and said the program was excellent. However, I never got a firm answer if the GI Bill covered the cost of training.

Snuggie, that's great news. I just PCS'd overseas this summer, which prevented me from accomplishing the practical. Now I don't have to worry about Downtown Aviation being booked up. Anyway you could PM me her contact info?

I've heard that the F-117 has been flying since it's retirement. Pics prove it. Now here's an explanation. https://intercepts.defensenews.com/2014/11/we-now-know-why-the-f-117-is-still-flying/

Saddle up for Syria? Or Op Deny Christmas '13
polcat replied to brickhistory's topic in General Discussion
Can we update the title of the thread to "Saddle up for Syria? Or Operation Deny Christmas '14"? F-22s popped their cherry, finally. -
Shoulda gone with a Ram. Enjoy that Ecoboost, ha ha.

What I get from this article: "...a vote to "cut military pensions instead of cutting welfare for illegal immigrants." Yep, apparently illegals are more important than US service-members. UFB.

Most likely you'll be working in the HOA-Air Component. If you're an O-4 or above, you'll eventually move into the West End. Which means own room and own bathroom. I lived in a "wet" CLU, which was my own room with a shared bathroom with one other dude. Not bad at all compared to what the lower ranking E's had for living conditions. Weather isn't all that bad if you're there from Oct-Apr. There was a pretty good selection of alcohol, but the new commanding general wanted to tighten the reins on quite a few things on camp. Off-base excursions use to be frequent, but the use of GOVs for other-than-official business was coming to end when I left.
