  1. huey, I'm almost afraid to ask, but what "job brief" got the rave reviews? Was it a mega-dumbed-down flyer's, or some shoe's "i am so important!" one?
  2. I thought Gen Schwartz said forget about this . . .?
  3. I think the 31 vs 35 ranking is coincidence. In my class, #1 was TC-12, #2 was T-44C, #3 was T-44A. It varies.
  4. I'd go 31 just for the low-level/tac phase. In my class, all the guys from 35 said their IPs stuck to the route, everything by the book, and it sucked. In 31, however, once you demonstrate knowledge of the basics, most IPs just have fun, i.e. flying wherever the hell they/you want. Low-level in the 44 was by far the most fun I had in pilot training.
  5. and, just like before, we rednecks won't give a fvck what those idiots think!
  6. Kudos to you for giving current gouge- but the worst they can say is no, right? You won't know unless you try, and personally, being told "don't waste your time" and "you don't have a chance" only piss me off to try harder. But no, I'm not applying for B-2s. ever.

hey sky king, care to explain that one a bit more?
  8. I think Dmeg130 hit the nail on the head- this guy isn't beginning to take into account all the intangibles involved with the decision to go or stay. He mentions deployments, but I don't think he really analyzes their impact in depth. One's guys "oh crap, AGAIN?" is another's "Alright, I get to finally do what I signed up to do!" Most important in all that is the BS, aka "reflective belt factor." Any of you familiar with the eDodo may recall a toon Zero drew about that. We didn't sign up for this gig based solely on the pay and hours, we did it for other reasons - figure those out and you might be able to figure out the best way to get us to stay in!
  9. yeah, I did the "flying in reverse" thing in a 172 myself. Good wind+full flaps+slow flight=hilarious.
  10. what exactly is "back-side flying" vs "front-side flying"?
  11. 2 on Pete's. Lots of hot girls when I've been there, but DAMN will you lose money in a hurry. Gotta pregame for sure.
  12. it's nowhere near where you want to live, but if you're single (or even if you're not, but still have a pulse!) check out the bars in the McKinney area. Basically, all the SMU girls just move a few miles closer to downtown after graduation . . . it's nice
  13. that's NGP . . . unless you want to fly for Chataqua(sp?). hehe.
  14. ok, well from another young pup, here's a simplified view: 1. General X says "heritage is good! We need more heritage!" 2. Someone like us proposes nose art, old skool patches, painting backs of jackets, etc - says "it'll be just like WWII/korea/etc" 3. General X says "holy crap, are you insane LT?!? We can't trust the peons with something like this! What if they paint . . . SCANTILY CLAD WOMEN! or something about KILLING! Can you imagine how that would look to female congressman Y?!? What about our recruiting efforts?? We can't have them thinking we're sexist, or warmongering, or blah blah blah . . . we offer sovereign options and airspace dominance, not KILLING! What would happen to my budget?!? The horror, the horror!!" 4. General X than turns to his exec and says "hey, didn't those WWI/WWII uniforms look sharp?" Exec replies "why yes sir, they looked great, and exuded the air of professionalism that we want as Airmen!" 5. General turns to his CAG and says, "ok, bring back the old uniforms and make em AF blue. We're gonna have HERITAGE! Oh, and make me an "airman's creed" too. Gotta remember that we're warriors and all." I challenge anybody to tell me I'm wrong.
  15. holy crap, that made my night. I had to grab another few beers just to read that . . . awesome. I love internets.
  16. you're baiting. gotta be baiting. must . . . not . . . respond . . .
  17. ok, I think I've searched pretty thoroughly . . . Almost all of the info on these threads about vision/surgury/etc is from a precommissioning or pre-UPT standpoint. How does it differ for rated aviators? In other words, ok, now I've got my wings. What are the considerations/policies/etc for getting PRK at this point? I've been wearing contacts for as long as I can remember, and I don't think I wanna bother with em in Afghanistan . . .
  18. better question: why can you roll your sleeves up in BDUs/ABUs, but not in a flightsuit (at least per 36-2903.) WTF?
  19. About the guidance at LRAFB: I assume that is for permanent, party, students, fliers and non-fliers alike? Also . . . how is AFSOC implementing this? Given the "subdued EVERTHING" culture at Hurby, I don't see blues being too popular at any level of leadership. CH? Anything?
  20. I'm pretty sure most people on here know this, but if you read the part on "dress boots" in 36-2903 you'll find roper-style cowboy boots are legal . . . I haven't worn those damn dress shoes . . . ever?
  21. Alright, a few years after Murph's original post, I find myself in about the same position - thinking western destin, okaloosa island, FWB. I'd like to get a 1 bedroom apartment within walking distance to the beach and/or good bars, while keeping the drive to work under, say, 25 minutes. Finding any of that so far's been pretty tough, so any tips on good apartments around Hurby would be great. I'll be moving down December-ish after little rock. And I checked out Somerset, but they were . . . less than helpful. I think I'm gonna keep looking.
  22. note: spings just took off the wreath from the old space AFSC badge and added solar panel "wings" instead. What's AFCYBER's excuse for this catastrophe?
  23. I'm fairly sure one hasn't dropped in at least the past 4 classes.
  24. 15 years? it's been that long? wow. I must be getting old.
  25. was this the Banner or the Tennessean that published the original article? Maybe the City Paper or whatever it's called? hell, does the Banner even exist anymore?
