  1. AFSOC: "We put the 'Special' in Special Operations"
  2. Greece, South Korea, and Iran also fly them as part of their combat fleets: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McDonnell_Douglas_F-4_Phantom_II#Operational_history Given our current political situation, I'm surprised any US flyers don't know that Iran flies F-4s (and F-14s for that matter)
  3. They are saying it was shot down by AAA. If it was optically guided, then he wouldn't really have known until the bullets hit.
  4. Perhaps there was something clear-cut that was done wrong or this was the last straw. I don't know much about the situation, but it's certainly possible that this is completely legit... ...however, I've seen too many good commanders fired in the "one-mistake AF" for piddly reasons. All too often, it seems local leadership is pressured by HHQ to "do something" and the easiest/cowardly thing to do is fire someone who's simply in the wrong place of leadership at the wrong time. These same leaders seem to forget that if "the buck stops here" whenever ANYTHING under their command happens, then it also "stops" with them too.
  5. Point taken. I was at Minot, so same kinda feel. But from what I understand about Cannon, Clovis doesn't appreciate the base or have anything close to as good of schools.
  6. HIGHLY recommend the Casio Pathfinder. Autoupdates with the atomic clock in Boulder ("Hey 2, where'd you get that time hack? A microwave?"), digital compass, altimeter, thermometer, etc.
  7. Yeah...the mission makes it better for the families...
  8. nice
  9. Emergency renaming to Tweak?
  10. uh...yeah. Way too soon... ...however, I did have a beer at noon today Reference above.
  11. Hmmm. It seems the pilots were correct: the O2 system (among others) was malfunctioning and the bureaucrats/shoeclerks/AIB were wrong. BIG shock https://news.yahoo.com/air-force-cites-progress-f-22-oxygen-mystery-013535776.html
  12. Thanks. I'll browse through all 142 pages to see if it clearly answers my question.
  13. Nope. I'm thinking SIB...and it's probably part I. That portion is released to the AIB, isn't it? And since that's in their report, it is, of course, released...but not until the AIB's done, right? I helped on about a dozen of these as a gopher, but never was completely clear on the rules of releasability
  14. Rumors? I heard they dragged them out into the street and shot them for not wearing reflective belts...but that's just a rumor...
  15. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but usually there is a releasable portion of an SIB, right?
  16. "guarded condition" isn't exactly "out of the woods"
  17. Praise God they're alive. Injuries can be life-threatening, so if someone in-the-know can let us know if they are going to be all right, that would be appreciated .
  18. Trusting ACs to be in charge? Nah, we can't have that happening.
  19. This is, of course, mission dependent, IMHO (and certainly limited to the single-seat world). In B-52s (and many other heavies I would assume) it is common to get multiple pilots on the same to "hack a bean" to maintain currency. I've been on a sortie with 6 pilots all looking to log various portions of the sortie...ALL of them needed night landings. I would assume a guy who needs to make more landings to maintain currency would knock out a few T&Gs, but only if approved, correct?
  20. I remember watching the F-22s do touch and goes at Andersen. They'd let the back wheels kiss the runway (within the first 100 feet), apply burner, go back into the downwind pattern, turn final and have wheels back on terra firma...all in less than 50 seconds. I was impressed.
  21. I heard she PCS'ed to Cannon and isn't allowed to wear that flightsuit anymore...<insert witty Powerpoint remark here>
