    You can get a 9mm AR15. You can also get a conversion kit that will allow you to shoot .22lr.

    You could just take the whole trigger housing off the rifle. Or just take the bolt out. Don't know how difficult that is with the M1A. Better solution is to find someone off base and store it with them.
