Well you clearly deserve a fighter so if it looks like you gotta compete on active duty, you should just go to your guard unit of choice and tell them you want the first UPT slot available which fits your schedule. I’m an 01 guy, just here to fly, most of my peers left long ago for guard/reserve or airlines. The few that stayed AD are pinning on full bird Col and (most) are the types you expect when competition is scarce. A few good ones who are looking to punch. God help us. Want to fly fighters? Step 1. Find a ANG fighter unit that needs a quota because it’s overmanned with white males where you won’t have to compete to get there. Step 2. Min run the training system, if anyone questions you not meeting standards, request a new UPT flight, different IPs or different FTU unit. I’ve had FTU students from traditional UPT, 2.0, the experimental UPT next and they all honestly end up about the same in the end. I’d much prefer a UPT that weeds out the weak and poor attitudes than teach irrelevant form landings and pie in the sky. Competition matters and performance under stress is needed to sort the chaff at UPT so tough flying should be a discriminator. Case in point, 90% of weak swimmers are direct to fighter guard/reserve hires who didn’t compete. Had they, they’d be no chance in hell they would show up here. The story I could/probably will eventually tell of the DEI unit hire that know they are an entitled and protected class. Cannot at the moment due to lawyers and stuff.
