  1. Yeah but let’s get real: -If you aren’t happy flying a F-16, it is doubtful you’d be happy in a C-5 or anything else. -If your wife is unhappy at a fighter base with the ton of support that comes with it, she’d doubtfully be happy at a C-5 base or anywhere else. -Your life as a fighter guy is more stable than a heavy guy. If you want stability, go teach at UPT...BUT, pretty much all those bases are worse than any fighter or C-5 base or anywhere else...well maybe AFSOC. Two life tips: first, I’d plan for your exit from the fighter community and or the usaf ASAP if you and your family are miserable. It will only get worse of you aren’t enjoying it when it’s new. Second, and I hate to be saying this but if you are having marital frustrations now, really evaluate things. Like the USAF, it’s only going to get worse if you aren’t enjoying it when it’s new. You can blame location, jet, schedule etc for your woes and always be waiting for a greener pasture with work/family balance, but I’ve found that people who enjoy the USAF and marriage are the types who will make the best of it no matter what the circumstances. 2. Geezus, reading the new millennial snowflakes who are a notch below my generation of S.N.A.P.s complain because they “heard it on the internet” makes me want to flog myself for the 17 yrs of sport bitching. Bottom line to you new guys: the USAF could solve everything we complain about today and tomorrow we would be on here complaining about something new. “Hot pits? Why can’t we just hit a tanker?” “BFM again!! That’s 3x this week and my neck hurts!” “I only got to shoot 200 rounds on the range but capt Xxxx got 250...what a screw job!” “They capped my unrestricted climb at 10k...f-ing ATC” “Can you believe I got sh-t for not using my gov’t cc? Can’t believe I had to fly a fighter across the US, stay on the strip in Vegas then put up with this BS where I don’t get my reward points.” “Speeding on base ticket? SF guy just wishes he was a pilot and taking it out on me.” “Yearly FOD walk on a down day? Don’t they know I’m a f-ing pilot...let’s hide in the bar and drink coffee with booze instead at 8am.” “You have a problem with my patch that says “f-ck”?? I bet you never even saw the patchy shop in Korea you GD nonner shoeclerk” “Bud Light...WTF is wrong with Lt’s these days. I pay a solid $6 per month for unlimited beer and this is what I get? Back when I wAs LPA...” Yeah there’s a ton to bitch about and even the coolest parts of the job get repetitive and the fun wears off. It’s still the greatest job in the world. If you are lucky enough to do it, save your saltiness for when you have a reason. Even then your job will be better than 96.69% of the rest of society...you’ll just be like the rest of us: entitled pro sport bitchers who don’t get paid enough, respected enough etc. Things are looking up kids, and nobody owes you a thing at this point in your career...you are lucky to be here. 3. I made the mistake of engaging some lovely ladies on social media who were talking about Kavanaugh’s guilt. I simply asked their process for concluding his guilt and if they accepted he “might” be innocent. It quickly devolved into a man-hating session and the best they could do is “she must be telling the truth and you are a white-male a-hole if you don’t believe her.” This is politics as usual from the left...completely reliant in ignorance and emotion to push an agenda. 4. Anytime I hear “diversity” and “retention” in the same short speech, it reinforces to me that talk is hollow and even though these people “may” understand the root causes of poor retention, politics reign supreme and they’ll say whatever makes them look good. 7. I do. I also remember the 2 x female T-38 IPs banging students. I remember the married FAIP banging the enlisted chick and more. Lots of sketchy stuff. But all that was nothing compared to the stuff I saw in CAF squadrons. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  8. For f-s sake....there is banging a student drunk on XC and then there is that situation. Sounds straight outta the trailer park. I’d love to see pics of the women involved. The wife had to be a real piece of work to have self esteem that low to try and stick it out with that dude. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  9. If we are going for efficiency, there might be some ideas in what you are sarcastically saying. I think the USAF spends a ton of time and money doing things the way it was done 40 years ago because we fear change. I know this happens in UPT because I was a student when the first T-6’s came on line. “Can you believe we are training in single engine props!” Said the old T-37 mafia. “There are gonna be pilots who never fly a jet in their career!” I was one of the last IFF classes to drop bombs off the AT-38. “Can you believe these new students won’t crank mils manually and have a HUD in the T-38C doing all the work...what a bunch of SNAPs.” At FTU we were all going to get lost and be lazy because we had EGI instead of a drifting INS and nobody knew how to do a delta update and our standby reticle bombing was horrible. One step away from communism. In my ops squadron wingman were going to kill themselves if we let them use their targeting pod the same time as FL. I was a T-38 IP when the magical fix to fix went away....all the students were going to wash out of follow-on courses because of that one. Back to the CAF....gotta print out maps like we did 20 yrs ago, can’t trust those new avionics with satellite imagery built in. HMCS and datalink was making us all soft. If we had unlimited resources, teach SFO’s to your hearts content. We don’t so we have to prioritize. You can’t cut it all because we need talent discriminators but once a kid tracks...well a heavy pilot probably doesn’t need a acro and a fighter guy doesn’t need as much crew communication work. 10. Farmer Bob flies a plane that can land at 50 knots without an ejection seat. Again, how many lives/jets have been saved by ELP’s in T-6’s vs how much time/$ has the USAF spent in training? This is simple risk/reward, input/output, cost/benefit etc. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  11. 100% of pre solo T-6 training is single engine. Joking but true..., I was referring to sending people to F-16’s without having ever done an SFO in T-6’s which is now being questioned as a discriminator. I don’t think it’s a big deal. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  12. I gotta know....How did pilots ever get trained before the T-6? I mean for 40+ years many pilots only flew -37/-38 in UPT, never seeing an ELP. Or again, we are resisting change because change is scary. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  13. Relax young’en, there is plenty of emphasis on emergencies and troubleshooting in UPT. Chances are that a student with Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app

  16. I’ll argue that very few airframes need the EM skills one may learn from an ELP. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing to learn, just that I think time could be spent elsewhere in T-6’s where most students haven’t tracked or will not go to planes that require superb EM skills. As for BFM...Some of the guys jonesing for BFM like they are prepping for the Korean War I’ve flown with could probably spend that time working on improving skills where they are deficient on current and more probable mission sets....and they are deficient. Not popular opinions I know. I did both an ELP and BFM yesterday...I could probably use a high intensity A/G scenario instead. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  17. Get the ticket you want, do a constructed travel worksheet showing it saves the gov’t money because of the expensive cab ride and when it works, spread the word to help fix things. Or you can f-ck your travel plans, bone the taxpayer and make a point which will be quickly dismissed and ignored. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  18. There are more productive and cheaper ways to teach these skills. I heard the same objections when we took fix to fix out of the T-38 syllabus or when the USAF went from a twin jet T-37 to a single turboprop T-6. The first time I did a SFO was after I had 2,700 in military jets...somehow I managed to get by for 15 years without that training. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  19. How many times since the T-6 has been in service has an ELP saved a plane? I doubt the effort we put into teaching it to students ever got payoff. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app

  21. Yeah but in my welfare state, if you are a garbage man at age 25, you are a garbage man until 65 (age rises yearly to keep up with lack of welfare state pension funds) when you have enough work service to collect your 2,000 euro or less pension per month. Want to work longer? Too bad, mandatory retirement to make space for new garbage men in the workforce. Want to get a job on the side to supplement your measly state pension? No way, if you do that you lose your pension because you are double dipping. So enjoy your retirement in your cozy 800 sq ft European apartment and 100hp $7per gallon diesel car that you can’t afford insurance on. Maybe you can hit the overcrowded beaches and mountains with your fellow Europeans competing for limited resources. At least you get free sub-par healthcare along with the immigrants. N/A for the politicians who vote themselves the resources of the people. Hmmm, sounds a bit like socialism-lite, the democrat dream. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  22. Is your family authorized TDY? Probably not. I’d go back and get a standard non-a for you only and act like they aren’t there (TDY entitlement wise). You’ll probably save yourself trouble in the long run. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app

  24. Here in my European welfare state country higher education is free so there’s a good chance the guy serving you drinks has a history degree and the girl washing dishes has an art degree after graduating at age 30. They spend time wishing they had a technical degree or skill so they could emigrate to America and work in an economy not held down by socialism-lite....well until the dems get their way anyhow. 25. Liberals always say “look at Europe.” but Europe is a mess that gets unpublicized. I’m shocked daily at the low wages and standards of commerce/living I see in the welfare stars where I reside. I recently visited a buddy from pilot training who is now out of the Luftwaffe in the civilian world. Same age, family size etc, I felt like staying with him a few nights was what semi-poverty in the U.S. would feel like as he told me of 50% taxes an inability to find suitable affordable housing for his family. Plus Europe gets 69% of its defense from the American taxpayer. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
