Who's got the skinny on Dunkirk? Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

I grew up around generals who now long retired ask me why I'm not going hard towards command doing the schools and stuff to get there. I use stories like this to drive it home why being "king turd on shit island" isn't worth it. When I hear their stories of flying 10+ airframes amassing 8,000 hours when they were my age all while having beers at the club by 4pm each day I realize my USAF is nothing like theirs was. I read these airline lifestyle comments and I wonder how bad retention would be if Delta took out an ad in AF Times showing a pilot sitting at his pool with a Porsche in the driveway. I'm amazed retention is as good as it is personally. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

Stop, I'm having trip turn ptsd flashbacks. You must be bored in retirement or do you hang out at the BX in your spare time between funny posts on bodn. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

Anyone heard about a new way to interact with assignments for fighter guys starting Spring VML? Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

Anyone hear some MAF guys are cross flowing to the F-35? That's gotta be a morale booster for people hanging onto the hope. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

The best leadership for the Air Force is rooted in the pilot community....unfortunately "most" of the best pilot leaders are in the guard already or not on a path in the AD system to be in control. Sad fact, the system doesn't promote the best leaders into leadership...which is why you see the kid who got picked on his whole life until he figured out that he could join the USAF, fill some squares and be the mfwic. Most of the great pilots and bros I respected when I was a LT are gone...many of the ones I saw as ass-kissing careerist, risk adverse square fillers are now the decision makers you are blaming for the USAF woes. There are still some great ones though. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

This is like your friend getting dumped by the crazy chick who was cheating on him...in hindsight it'll be the best thing that could've happened. If he can't cut it in fighters then he'll go to a heavy anyhow. All the shit talking going on by fighter pilots making it "seem" undesired and rubbing off on uniformed naive students can only really be interpreted by fighter pilots who know what it's about...it still beats 96.69% of jobs out there. Stars In my Eyes Pilot Candidate Set me straight.

Most of the bitching here is about how the AF makes a great job crappy in respect to what it "could" be or punching to airlines to get paid more to work less. Still I think my bad day is 69x better than what I imagine being an accountant is like. No offense.....if that answers your question. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums -
Did all vipers get the upgrade that auto recovers the aircraft? Saw a g-loc video and pretty cool. Wondering if all blocks have that now. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

Thx, I think I incorrectly called it the wyvern previously. Pretty amazing that thing flew in the 90's but then again seeing the F-22 was essentially designed in the early 80's while the aim-7/aim-9L was still king, you can see why there is a challenge to stay ahead in design to interface with weapons and future threats when it takes 20 years from concept to operational. Luckily our peer threats seem to lag even farther. Anyone think that someday our enemies will develop laser based defenses? Can't outrun or out maneuver the speed of light. Also, anyone go to the Paris Airshow this year? I heard there might be some impressive concept UCAV types showing there. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

For anyone who's been to wright patt...that concept jet above the -22...pretty cool (looking) concept. No idea what implications a wing design like that has on stealth or maneuverability but it's pretty sweet. Anyone know the unclassified backstory on it? Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

The conspiracy theory part of me figured it made no sense. Then at the wright patt museum i saw the "Wyvern" I think it was called having from the ceiling....I figure these designs are NASA or something by now like the thrust vectoring f-16 of the day (I think also hanging at wright patt) Nothing radical...Proven flyable designs with existing computers from our current 5th gen line. Why not? Again, speculation, but on Wikipedia you can draw a lot of conclusions on what's doable and what's not. All of this is assuming manned aircraft stay around of course. Personally I think subsonic tailess uav's are going to rule before 6th gen manned ever gets built. Tailless Ucavs are already refueling and landing on carriers autonomously if you check out YouTube. Pretty amazing stuff. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

If you see a design with tails, ignore it, it won't be the future of fighters as long as stealth is desired. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

Geezus this is depressing to read. I'm on exchange where there is still porn in the walls, in briefs and trying to bang the enlisted chicks is highly encouraged. I showed my colleagues some of our USAF SARC stuff and they thought I was joking. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

I want to know who the first dumb bastard is that accepts the 13 year option. After 20 yrs you get a ~50k per year bonus for doing nothing. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

I'm on exchange with an Air Force that does something similar by giving extra pay based on quals even ground duties. The problem is that the system gets corrupted by friends pushing friends for upgrades, people wanting jobs / quals simply for the pay. Sounded good to me in theory until I saw it in practice. Depends, can I go down to the local kid shelter and pick out a new cuter one? Does the kid shed? Incidentally today I was upset when a kid owner let his kid piss on my tire while he was walking his kid. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

Geeezus...but have you planned an Xmas party? This would be like Apple telling the engineers who design the next iPhone that they have a statistically worse shot at advancement than the person who line up food services or orders copy machine paper for the company. I'm appalled. I've been telling pilots on the fence to stick around as things are improving. I'm thinking I might be out to f-cking lunch. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

Really shows which positions we value for promotion and how poorly DOING the mission counts. Poor CSO's and ABM's need to get planning more Xmas parties to compete with the 7:30-4:30 crowd. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums
