  1. I saw some awesome T-6 faips get Q3'd sime years back for doing std pilot stuff but their CC was a CYA careerist d-bag so they got screwed. When I was in AETC some fatty driver clown recommended me with a Q3 for doing a unrestricted climb during a UCI which got quickly disregarded by fighter leadership but you see how this crap works.   4. If you are looking over your shoulder at 9G's in today's A/A environment, things have already gone horribly wrong. Some things are worth training full-up 169% for.....risking real life injury to hone your skills doing something will not realistically happen in the future is not worth it.   7. My gut instinct is to make it a working group to solve issues. Some academics at first then let loose on actual problem solving in the modern world. Immagine if WIC taught outdated doctrine and tactics then said "great, go be a tactical leader." Throw a real problem and get a real solution or at least a possible COA. I did ACSC via correspondence, so I'm only going off what I know of course content and studies from others, but it sounds like there is very little correlation between subject matter taught and real world application. I'll back that up with some of the turds I saw return to the real world after a year at school and then staff, jumping into a CAF leadership role, they were actually "less" prepared to face real issues than others who had stayed in the real world. School has become a container to check on the way to higher command. Personally, I'm not so sure we shouldn't canx ACSC altogether vs it's current form. AWC, I'm not sure what it is like/taught.   8. I'm sure once upon a time many many years ago, school was relevant to command, but I know a few cc's who never did in-res who were terrific. The stuff you need can be learned through real world immersion. If school worked, we wouldn't be seeing the constant complaints of poor leadership.....err, I mean management and we wouldn't be losing so many natural leaders to guard/res.   9. There are a lot of better/useful ways to get perspective and a bigger picture than spending a year at acsc. How about on the job experience? Can anyone tell me they needed to learn what was taught at acsc in order to succeed at that post staff job? I'm pretty sure competent officers could do staff just fine without. I've said it 69 times, I just don't understand on the slightest why anyone wants to do school in res unless it's for a vacation from the CAF....if so, I have better ideas of how to spend a year slacking.   13. This isn't real tough to solve. Take the current best CAS aircraft, identify it's deficiencies, fix/improve them. There are a lot of pilots who have flown the A-10C (not A like Welsh) along with other jets from the A-29 to the F-35 plus legacy -16/18/15E, harrier etc......talk to them. What are our CAS challenges? The contested environment argument as presented is complete political s#it. I'd say it's more along the lines of persistent, affordable and capable assets.   14. Hey guys, I'm giving a shoutout for Marty at Trident Home Loans. About 2 months back after reading this thread I was simply curious as I already had a very low interest rate. Marty helped me knock my interest rate even lower, the loan cost me NOTHING, all I had to do was sign some documents which they made very easy around my TDY schedule. Bottom line, I did very little to save some good money so if you are even slightly curious on that you might get a better rate, take 6-9 minutes and fill out an app. Trident was terrific to work with.   16. If guard will take me part-time at 20 I will but for me AD is just about options. I'm setting up my part-time side operation so the pension at 42 fits my plans. In 4 yrs I'll have my pension, side income and if I want to do airlines, I can with no issues but a job I hate won't be a necessity and there will be zero pressure financially to take a gig with a company or location I don't want. Guard beats AD 96.69% of the time. For me, AD is best, and I have had/am having a blast but I've been fortunate with luck/timing. Just need to ensure my last PCS is decent but a lot of my competition is quitting so the USAF sh-tshow is benefitting a few lucky players. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums
  17. If we are dynamically targeting with a "raider" inbound to a target, I would think recce-attack interface missions with faster assets designed for strike could do it safer. I just read an F-35 guided a sea launched to target. Forgive me, I'm not well versed on the stealth bomber mission but I would assume payload is the only thing a bomber offers over a s tactical sized aircraft so I would think it'd make more sense to have 4 x stealthy fighters rather than a single large bomber for the DT stuff. I know we will spend a lot to get this bomber designed/built. I just wonder if we are once again stuck in Cold War thinking where we'll need stealth bombers to penetrate and carpet bomb a heavily IAD defended Moscow.   18. If I could park at an FTU and avoid any 179/365, pull O-5 pay plus another (higher) bonus, I'd be tempted. Easy flying(relatively) and once you stop playing the USAF game ie. do zero effort to get promoted, win awards or go to school, break it down and it's good pay to fly. Think about it, you take away the BS competition for strats (to get a good OPR, good OG rack and stack for assignment or school push), what are you left with.....flying and an additional duty which should be simple task delegation and decision making. Most additional duties at the O-5 level can be cut huge if you are willing to actually be a leader, stop looking for your bosses approval sack-up and stand up to the system as the USAF needs (because you don't care about the aforementioned career stuff). AWC via correspondence......F-no. I'd rather watch hours of "my little pony" with my 3 yr old than waste 1/69th of a second on that crap. When I hit my ADSC, I'll see what big blue has to offer. If I don't like it, I'll walk. Simple. It's just a job and I was told by someone from Randolph that with the 11F shortage, O-5's are going to have to fly like they are O-3's......I'm happy to oblige.   19. It's not the same but can be just as fun. Military flying is very controlled so the fun isn't whenever you want and most real good flying is prohibited by various rules. Some of the most fun I've had is in small planes. An RV-8 for example Is terrific. Military flying is not what you see in air shows. JDAM and computers have taken a lot of the fun flying out of it so it's not all BFM and dive bombing. That's not to say it can't be a blast. It's just not what you see in movies and read about in books. But other than $$, it beats what I know of being a doctor which I hear has plenty of stress and work involved.   20. A civilian the other day asked me what a stealth bomber could do that 69x stealth cruise missiles could not. Other than range, seemed valid, I didn't have a great answer. Is pouring our cash into a new strategic bomber a great investment or a jobs program?   21. Flying fighters is the greatest job ever. Being in the USAF is the price you pay to do it. Once you figure out the game and play it accordingly, you can have a great life flying fighters.   22. NATO has actually done some harm since the end of the Cold War. Without a substantial threat, our European allies have really let their military readiness go to hell all willingly and over reliant on the US. The problem is, they don't know it and we aren't calling them on it. Our allies are running around in their Eurofighters and Gripens thinking they are just barely below US capes but they are FAR below, and don't know it. I'm talking every level. They don't have tanker capacity, armament capacity and are reliant on the US in most ways past getting go #1 airborne. I didn't know this until I saw it firsthand how bad they are, across the board, from the way they train, organize and if you think the F-35 is a shitshow, you should see the Eurofighter.....a $100m jet with $40m in capes.   24. I've heard good things about the AM T-346. Could fill adv trainer into an armed version for light attack like the Israelis did with it. But who we kidding.
