Palace Chase info
My application made it out of the SQ and WG inside of 7 days. It got to AFPC where it was rejected, not denied, due to not having my medical/dental records, pt scores, and a copy of my SURF attached. I thoroughly reviewed the Palace Chase, Officer Separations, and the briefing on the vMPF separations site. At no point did I see any of those things were required. Did I just miss it or were there some other regs/memos/etc that I should have read? If you click on Palace Chase the pop up, on the separations page of vMPF, specifically says a 1288, 2631, and personal memo were the "required" documents. The awesome thing was that I had attached the medical clearance letter from the state flight surgeon clearing my to join that state's ANG. All of those items, medical/dental/pt, were specifically annotated on there that I met Alaska's standards.

Palace Chase info
What AFi is this in? I was curious to see if mine would get approved with my only ADSC being GI Bill transfer going until 2018..... So I can't seem to find it in an AFI; that specific data is from my in service recruiter, taken with a salt shaker full of salt, I'll post the exact verbiage later. I ended up applying for Palace Chase anyways; I'll let the message board know what happens. I've got less than a year, hired for a full time AGR job, and don't want to go to staff this summer so what do I have to lose?

Tops in Blue (TIB) - WTF?

Palace Chase info
Not necessarily PC but I was told that if your only ADSC is from the post 9-11 GI Bill TEB that you could transfer your remaining commitment to the ANG. (Confirmed via AFI) I got hired as an AGR and want to separate but in vMPF separations the only options for separation that seem to make sense are Palace Chase, transfer to another service, or misc. my question is which one do I choose to start that process?

How to play all of those movies/TV shows you got while deployed
I can't give an opinion on the speed of a MyCloud because I haven't tried one. The second mini I purchased was from eBay and it was $250 (2010 model) the drives I purchased as a shell (with USB3 and FireWire 800) and the drives separately. This cost me a bit l as than $140 (~$120/each). I've never had any issues but the most I've tried to stream is 720p to a Roku and the Mac mini itself. I'd imagine that if you tried more than two HD streams you might have some issues.

How to play all of those movies/TV shows you got while deployed
I've done the same thing since 2010. I bought a used Mac mini to act as a media server; any Mini since 2010 comes with an HDMI port. Don't worry about getting the fastest one because it'll basically run "headless" or without a monitor just to serve your files. I run 5TB via two FireWire 800 standalone drives. The two hard drives feed media to the Plex Media Server (the evolution has been great and significantly more stable than 2010). All the other TVs have some sort of Roku which has a Plex client application (recently released) and this has a significant better wife approval factor. Makes the whole process of Plex, Netflix, Hulu, and ESPN watching better. I got a Mohu (so?) Leaf antenna to pick up the local channels in HD and haven't found a good way to integrate that so I just sent it up on my remote so my wife hits one button and it'll switch between antenna and computer. Overall I figure I've paid for 2x Minis (one for fried by a power surge), 2x Rokus, the Antenna, and paid the subscription fees for Hulu and Netflix for five years. That and it puts ~40-100$ a month in my pocket. I haven't explored the Sling tv option but it may be in the works after this deployment...

VA Loans
Has anyone here used a FHA 203(k) mortgage? I bought my current home with a VA loan last year, through NBOKC, and I'd like to do some improvements based on the sales price of comparable homes in the area (we paid 170K and the comps are selling between 225 and 250). The work I want done isn't cosmic but it's things such as: electrical panel upgrade from 100A to 200A, replace corroded galvanized pipe from water meter to home, etc… I've read through the "Google" search returns that say the traditional 203(k) is a difficult process if the lending agent and contractor aren't familiar with the program, so it seems like the "streamline" 203(k) is the way to go. Just looking for personal experiences.

What's wrong with the Air Force?
Depending on how long you've been in you may have already completed the 20 minute version at the Kirtland ORM University. It's a one time requirement and I completed mine in 2006. Print out the certificate and you're good to go; I'll post instructions tomorrow.

Rated to Law School?
Just had a friend graduate from Arizona State, as a FLEP student, and take the bar. He was a prior 13B, rated, and was one of the 4 or so folks picked up in 2010; he was picked up for ELP in 2009 but chose to apply again to get it funded. It's possible but like many things timing is everything. His life did not suck when I visited him getting paid as a Captain in law school at ASU. In fact, it might be the best kept gig in the Air Force.... edited for spelling

PCS Bingo
Forgot to mention at the beginning of this PCS, prior to receding orders, from Tyndall AFB, Florida to Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma I needed to use the OCONUS checklist. Well, Lower Alabama is it's own planet.....

PCS Bingo
In the middle of a PCS; I found out that the squadron exec could sign off ALL areas of vMPF. I don't know if this is standard exec "power" but I consider it a win when every office failed to sign it off I just called the exec and poof it was signed off.

Effect of simulator use on Pilot/Nav Training
DFRESH - I've actually sent about a dozen controllers, including myself, to AFRL over the years and I've got several contacts there. I figured in all the hundreds of PME/BS AAD that get turned out someone had researched the effects of simulated pilot/nav training. Gearpig - Thanks! Problem solved and 25 page paper written. Waldo

Effect of simulator use on Pilot/Nav Training
Baseops, I'm trying to finish my Master's and I'm writing on the effects of transitioning the Air Battle Manager syllabus to entirely simulators. No one has advocated that course of action but I want to research the effects of using more simulation for pilot, navigator, and EWO training to see if I could draw any conclusions or parallels. My question is has anyone seen/read/have any recommendations on literature I could review that deals with the effects of moving commercial or military aviation to more simulators and less live fly?
