National Air Cargo 747 Crash at Bagram
lj35driver replied to TacAirCoug's topic in General Discussion
We just had a crew in there who watched the jet arrive. They were stuck for awhile waiting on the winds to die down. He was the only heavy who managed to land when the winds were called 100@29G42. Several aircraft had declared fuel emergencies because the winds were terrible everywhere. Shortly before, they think they saw a downburst hit on the approach end to 03. -

Huey, I'm in a similar position as my CC found out I was being courted by a Guard unit and assigned my name to deployment slot. The deployment is over 6 months out and my planned date off AD would be prior to that. Any idea if this rule still applies in my situation?

Oh dear God my eyes! Everytime I see that pic I just think that it can't honestly be real.

Hmm, quick search of the global reveals an A1C assigned to a CE sqd. She probably knows about .69% of the shit required to do her job at this point but wants to run off and play Broadway wannabe. Go figure.

I thought the link at the bottom of the page about Brazilian prostitutes was a better read. Too bad there weren't any pics of said prostitutes. https://mobile.reuters.com/article/idUSBRE90715520130108?irpc=932

Anyone had to deal with them on a personal injury claim where the other individual is also insured by USAA? I'm getting pretty fed up with lack of response/cooperation from the claims rep. It's been 18 months since the accident and 12 months since completing any medical treatment. The other driver was convicted of felony injury by motor vehicle and lost their drivers license for 90 days on top of the fines. She threw a couple of low ball offers my way and actually laughed at my counter (reasonable and below what several lawyers have evaluated it at). Now they're even requesting access to my full personnel record in an attempt to prove that there might have been some negative actions being taken against me that kept me out of the jet versus the injuries. While understand that every company tries to pay out as little as they can, I still can't believe this is how my own insurance company treats me. I can't even get the rep to just call back and try to come to some sort of resolution. Between this, the multiple banking errors on their part, experience with their realty referral, and a lost deal on a car after their rep had better things to do, it might be time for me to move on.

Got to work this morning and found the Chucktown standard still in effect. There was an email sent not by either of the WG/CCs, but by Public Affairs stating that we are to continue to wear blues because there hasn't been an official rescindence of policy issued.

That's something that will never happen. The CVR from the 4-engine flameout in 2010 would've been very educational. Wait, there was even a video taken in the cockpit as well. Leadership decided it was something we shouldn't see even though it would've been a great CRM tool.

Is there something you know about the crew that we don't? I didn't get to see the SMS cut, but thought the crew was from the 305 AMW. I'm not saying that just because it was a McGuire tail either. I wish I could say Chuck was exaggerating about the locals. I walked into scheduling at my sqd and saw all but one local X'ed off the board for the next two weeks. We lost most of our training "money" for the next two quarters to fund C-5M transition. Stan/Eval is all over us to get checkrides done early since the lack of locals will make it nearly impossible to get everyone done.

C-17 Pilot Charged in Training Jump Death
lj35driver replied to Fifty-six & Two's topic in General Discussion
Is there any wonder considering he still ripped wings from people despite the recommendations of SIBs/AIBs? A guy in my office is friends with Jared and said the other pilot decided on separation in lieu of Court Martial. Anyone have any detail on that? -
Is it ironic that I was reading an article titled "My Worst Landing" in AOPA magazine when a friend called to tell me about this?

Secret Service prostitution bust spreads to military

C-17 Vol 3 mentions crossing time zones in this paragraph but that's about it. I think it's ignored for the most part. 3.10.3.2. Mobility planners should construct mission itineraries with en route ground times longer than 16+30 hours to afford aircrew members opportunities to recover from the cumulative affects of fatigue caused by flying on several consecutive days or due to transiting several time zones. If practical, make the en route ground time 36 hours (maximum) after three consecutive near maximum FDPs. The paragraph that follows is the section on Crew Enhancement Crew Rest and goes into how it's not an alternative to a safety of flight delay. I once asked for an additional 3 hours ground time after 4 near max for my combat basic crew. Our schedule had been jacked around so many times over the past week that we were draggin' ass. The floor DO had a shit fit and stated that he was calling our DETCO to report that we had requested CECR. I told him I could care less what he did because for the first time in a week, we were in a location where the crew could some good recuperative sleep. And for phuck's sake, the jet was empty on the next leg! If there wasn't consensus the next day that we all felt good enough to go fly, I would've called it and not blinked.

Chop, If your location didn't say west coast, I would've figured this was something out of CHS. People are getting pulled over here when the cops even see the glow of what they think is a cell phone. Automatic 2 week driving privilege suspension and no one has been successful at fighting it thus far. The cops say that the fact there are no calls or texts placed at the time of incident doesn't prove that you didn't pick up your cellphone and use it for some other reason. The crew van drivers have been getting harassed as well when they use their govt issued cells that are used strictly as a walkie talkie. Nothing like being on the way I the jet and wasting 10 minutes on the side of the road while the driver explains to the skycops about how they have to answer dispatch.

Just a quick scan of that newsletter gave me so many what the phuck moments that I don't even know where to start. The guys in my office thought it was some sort of joke until I showed them the AFCGOC web page. And FTAC for Lts? Wasn't that what ASBC is all about? Wait...we did away with that waste of time.

BX renovations.....a waste or worth it
lj35driver replied to lilbigman's topic in General Discussion
It's definitely cheaper to shop at the commissary at Charleston versus the Publix or Piggly Wiggly near my house, even after the 22 mile drive each way. There are usually better than a $1 difference in the price of many of the items we buy and the meat prices are significantly cheaper. And yes, I do figure in what it costs me in gas/travel and it's still better. However, that's where any benefit ends. The BX, even after the renovations and increase in size still sucks. You never can find what you what, when you do it's not as cheap as if buying off-base, and you can almost never count on the AAFES price match when you do try to buy something comparable there. It's like AAFES has their own model numbers on electronics that are just one number off what looks like an identical item carried by the other big box electronics stores. Hence, they never have to price match anything that is worth going through the hassle for. Then there's the new food court we got consisting of Anthony's, Charley's, and BK. Why the fvck did we get a BK when you can walk out the main gate and across the street to BK? How about a Subway, Popeye's, or Taco Hell instead. I rarely eat at the Food Court, but it just doesn't make sense. IMO, AAFES just isn't that big of benefit and really isn't worth fighting for. If Congress is still looking for a way to cut some more expenses, they can have AAFES if it means my retirement goes forever untouched. Even though I still plan to live in the Charleston area when a retire, having the BX there (or near any other place I would live) has never been a deciding factor. In fact, I kinda hate AFFES due to how they figure into your moving claims. If the person doing your claim can find a comparable /similar item on the AAFES website, they can use that as your reimbursement costs. That's even if you're original item was some brand that AAFES doesn't sell, costs 10x what the AAFES item does, and is of significantly better quality than anything AAFES would ever have in their catalog. On-base childcare- used it for awhile when I was stationed at Tinker...big mistake. My kid always threw a fit about having to go back and would come home a couple of times a week with bite marks that the workers never seemed to see. I didn't feel sorry for the kid he bit the shit out of one day. Had to pick him up early for that, but guess what... Changed him out of his clothes and found a bite on his shoulder that was turning into a huge mouth shaped bruise. Little fvcker deserved what my kid gave him. We started using an off-base church daycare afterwards that was MUCH cheaper and he actually learned stuff while he was there. Gas Station- it's somewhat convenient and it's also the Class 6 at Charleston. The gas is never cheaper unless you use a Star Card. That's all you can say about it. -
A friend sent me the Facebook link to the memorial page they created for Eric. It has details on the education fund the Red River Valley Fighter Pilots Assoc and the Air Warrior Foundation have helped setup for Dirk and Sarah's daughter. Eric "Dirk" Ziegler Memorial Page

Solution- Fly the test pilots, Airbus' CEO, CFO and the test engineers to Scott AFB. Let Lt Gen Allardice yell at them for a couple of hours while they stand at attention, then do pushups until they can't get up off the floor. Problem solved.

They were quick to abandon it too. Been at a class held at Army Space Command and havent seen a single beret. Wish I could tell the CSAF to give us our black boots and tshirts back and it happen. Been wearing them for the last 16 years and I'm only on my second pair of quick dons. I'll be wearing mine right up until the last day in protest.

BDA, I got the same email recently when I made reservations for a TDY and was told I would be receiving a non-A. I asked lodging about and was told it was normal to get that and it indicated that there was no payment due to the lodging office or that it wasn't contract qtrs rate.
