  1. More friends of dear old dad?
  2. Was he/she a FAIP? Just curious.
  3. Interesting. According to apple, the iPad weighs 1.5 lbs. According to runner, there are several options that allow the iPad to be strapped to a pilot's thigh that seem somewhat reliable. Do A-10 pilots normally fly combat missions (or training missions for that matter) with kneeboards/ whatever strapped to their thighs? Do they fly around with pubs/ maps/ other "loose" items? If so, do they weigh more or less than 1.5 lbs? What about the items that a typical A-10 pilot wears on their thigh or have in the cockpit, and the methods they use to attach them to said thigh or store in the cockpit, make them less likely than an iPad to detach during combat maneuvers and become FOD? I completely agree that the capes an iPad provides would be better provided via an MFD. Highly doubt we see that, however.
  4. By the time the KC-46A becomes operational in the early 2020s, after the numerous lawsuits, cost overruns, budget cuts, BRAC politics, etc, the key to getting hired in the civilian world will be a UAV type...
  5. We've had a few people (pilots) apply for Palace Chase and were approved, but all were extenuating circumstances. One had a terrible event in their personal life, and the others were within 6-9 months of the end of their ADSC anyway. Outside of those scenarios, nobody even knows if it would work. We've basically been told that as soon as you apply, it WILL be denied and you WILL be receiving the next UAV to Cannon/ Grand Forks/ whatever. That said, if this potential RIF/VSP happens... last one out don't forget to turn off the lights.
  6. That's just it- if we have the time (and the people) to spare a trip to Doha/ wherever from a shithole base, then we have too much time and too many people deployed to said shithole base. Oh, wait, I forgot- we're at war, but not really at war. To say this isn't the Air Force, military, and war I thought I was getting into would be an understatement. My bad.
  7. I'm of the belief that if I'm gonna waste precious days from my limited time on this earth supporting a dead-end, cluster###### of a war in a shithole of a location, then at least I'm gonna ######ing support this deadend, cluster###### of a war in this shithole of a location to the maximum ######ing extent possible. If that means I fly-sleep-fly-sleep rinse wash repeat and never get a glimpse of downtown Doha/ Abu Dhabi/ Dubai, then so ######ing be it. And if I could shave off a single day of a deployment by doing so then it would abso-######ing-lutely be worth it. Are my ten years up yet?
  8. Wait- you didn't get any emails from the ECGOC (expeditionary, of course) advertising trips downtown to go bowling/ shopping/ the water park/ movies/ etc? What about ECGOC movie nights at the pool (bring your own floatie/ noodle/ water wings/ desert boy and/or girlfriend). Oh what's that? We're in a goddam futher######king war? I wish I were making this shit up. What a joke of a job this is
  9. As long as said people are married or have kids. Single people can go ###### themselves.
  10. Mostly true, but they are indeed getting approved for folks within a year of completing their commitment. It might not seem that much, but that's 6-9 less months to deal with AD.
  11. Once again... the AF just begs people to get out.
  12. But...but...but... he writes Lorenz on Leadership!
  13. So basically just like real world AWACS.
  14. It'll be a permanent party PCS assignment by then to "fly" UAVs.
  15. A lot of the different IPs talk to each other about their students- good, bad, ugly. May not figure directly into your MASS or whatever, but it certainly hurts to have made a bad impression before you have your first T-1/ T-38 ride. And by and large, the lazy dipshits from T-6s are still lazy dipshits later on.
  16. Stop-loss: lots of newly homosexual officers who fail PT tests and are non-flyable/ non-deployable due to weird, hard to diagnose illnesses and allergies.
  17. The bonus has been at $25k for how long? The mid 90s? $25k in 1995 is a hell of a lot more enticing than in 2010+. The ability to have a say in what I do, when I do it, and where I do it is easily worth $25k (more like $18k after taxes). But to each their own. I'm not convinced there will be a stop-loss in the 2011-12 timeframe, mainly because Big Blue is too incompetent to react that quickly. But after that, it's on.
  18. "Time to time be tasked to act and work accordingly" would be fine. However, it's not time to time, it's constantly, and I'd argue it's meaningless jobs that have nothing to do with being an officer or an aviator. The original question was if people would choose a "flying-only" career path. I say yes, in theory, but in reality Big Blue would ###### it up and it would be anything but flying only.
  19. That's the thing though- even if such a career path existed and could be counted upon to exist your entire career (all those early 2000 year group guys happy that you were told you didn't need a masters, only to be told otherwise a few years later...), it wouldn't stop a lot of the things that force people out. Are they going to make the "careerist" path folks do all the day-to-day gheyness that plagues active duty while the "flyer-only" folks don't? Yeah, right. You'd still be on the hook for Warrior Runs, group PT, exec jobs, blowing some self-important dipshit General on his base visit, Blues on Monday, and planning Holiday parties (don't you dare call it Christmas) that you don't give a shit about, all while being looked down upon for not being a "team player" and only a "flyer". Sounds great on paper, but we know this simply won't happen.
  20. Methinks there's a HUGE difference between the ACC and AMC world. I'm watching every good dude palace chasing and getting out as I speak.
  21. It's not a breach of contract. UPT grads have the ability to SIE rather than take the assignment and the commitment. Not sure if anyone has actually done that though. I will agree that sending someone to full-up UPT and then to a UAV for their entire commitment makes absolutely zero sense financially. It's the equivalent of sending someone to med school only to be a pharmacist. Reason number one billion why the AF, and our country, is ######ed.
  22. Just to clarify for the noobs, when you add in 6 months to a year of casual status, and if you go to Pensacola/ Corpus Christi, you could easily be at the 12-13 year point when your 10 years is up. I'd still punch at that point if things stay the same, which we know they will.
  23. Probably has to do with the fact they're a renegade band of degenerate homosexuals.
  24. Plenty of desert lines to be filled by reservists bitching about the well running dry. How bad do they want to get paid...
