Mexican Military incursion(s) into the United States
TreeA10 replied to Clark Griswold's topic in General Discussion
Define "open immigration that is managed." Seems to be contradictory terms but I'm willing to be educated. Public vs private. You can't give anything to someone without first taking it from someone else but let's assume you are talking about land controlled by the Government. Are you going to force all new immigrants to move to Bureau of Land Management property? Are you sure they want to live in Nevada and Utah? Maybe Alaska? -

Let's see, I earn money that is my private property. The government then takes their cut. I'd like to limit that cut to those funds required for the operational needs of the nation and not any more. By allowing anyone and everyone to wander into our Continental Kegger and pull up a beer, we are now on the hook for education, for medical, and for ensuring basic nutrition and shelter. I could give you a quick little tour in our neck of the woods with a good number of non-english speaking elementary students or maybe hang out in the Emergency Room at a Fort Worth hospital with a whole lot more non-english speaking folks. Government is not some obscure, distant relative. Government is "We the People." By saying "We" should pay for something, you are saying "I" should pay for something. And I vote no. If you want to pay for it, good for you, knock yourself out. And if you are going to talk the talk, you should walk the walk. Open up your home and wallet to anyone and everyone who needs the space. Like Thatcher said, socialism is easy until you run out of other peoples money. That being said, I've had some nice conversations and associations with a PhD Chemist from Belarus, a couple engineers, Electrical and Nuclear from India, a doctor from Ireland, and a Veterinarian from Australia. All had amazing stories and are thriving here. I'll take all of those guys we can get. -

So your solution is to allow unlimited migration here which would be "self correcting." What type of self correcting are we talking? I've been to wonderful places like Haiti, Caracas, and Mexico City and I guess you would be happy if we corrected to the economic and political dynamics that occur in those wonderful tourist destinations. They come to the U.S. for a better life. I understand that. I also understand that resources are limited and would really like to use your residence for a demonstration of that principle. I am accumulating quite the list for moving into your house and you have yet to send an address with invitations. You'll take care of their healthcare, right? -

Name any system, a swimming pool, a car, an acre of land, an urban area of defined area, etc. that can take an unlimited/uncontrolled increase in population without the resulting chaos harming those that live there. We can experiment with your place. I'm sure I can find a bunch of homeless folks that would love the serenity and compassion of your hospitality. Post your address and we'll get this party started. I'm all for legal immigrants. I've met many that work harder, smarter, and happier than a lot of my fellow citizens. Those from countries that were oppressed with limited economic or political freedom have an exceptional point of view worth listening to. But in the end, I put my the health and security, financial and physical, over the very nice people that might want to come here. -

Free? Are you that limited and myopic in your thinking? Somebody, somewhere is paying for it. -

I think Vertigo just gave all of us the right to enter his house and we are entitled to shelter, food, and the use of his property with or without his consent. Damn nice of you, Vertigo!! I hope you don't mind that I'm bringing a Mariachi band with me. -
I'm not a golfer but just finished reading a book called Loopers by John Dunn. Its about his life as a caddy on a variety of courses including Augusta and St. Andrews. Entertaining and funny read from a guy who loves golf.

No sparkly paint job? I'm surprised.

And highways and dry lake beds. Don't think it has been done in a while, however.

Had several Army hello guys as students in the T-38. As a group, they did well in the program but they all were former Warrant Officers and none were the SRO.

Washed out a -130 Nav with an Article 15 as a going away present. Don't be a stupid ass douche nozzle.

I think my record for logging non-flight flight time is 7 hours 17 minutes to fly from Tampa to Miami. Brake release to brake parked.

I bet the Ukrainians wish they had been able to keep a neighboring different ethnic group out of their country now that the different ethnic group would rather identify with their mother country. -

During low level nav training, My A-10 IP: Are we invading Mexico? Me: No. Why? IP: You just flew across the border. -
Coincidence??? I think not.

I just didn't use email. As a part-timer, every time I showed up, I required a new password or they needed to re-map printers or something and it became a royal pain and waste of my time...so I quit checking and happily flew my ass off.. After about a year and half, some guy shows up at my door asking if I could please delete some stuff because it is clogging up their server. I had something in the neighborhood of 1500 emails.

Electronic flight bags could boost operational safety, effectiveness

That map strap might work. I've got two kneeboards. One has a narrow 1-1 1/2 inch elastic strap and the other is 3-4 inches. Both have the clear strap which would go over the line-up card. The narrower elastic strap isn't as secure as the wider one and it wobbles around a bit. We carry a Hyperjuice battery at work. It is slightly bigger than a deck of cards and it will recharge an iPad twice. -
They don't train those guys to exercise judgement. Years ago, I'm going through the crash school at Norton (yes, a long time ago) and I'm out for a run. I've run the perimeter of the base and was heading back to the Q's when a security police car passes me, cuts in front of me, and a dude jumps out with a shotgun and levels it at me. I am armed with a running tank top, shorts, and New Balance shoes. Idiot. I was not detained and allowed to go on my way shortly thereafter. In a heated discussion with the desk sergeant later, I was told somebody stole something from the BX. Lucky them, it I wanted it, it would be on the truck coming Tuesday.

Got an iPad mini w/retina display in an Otterbox. At work, we use an iPad 2 with a RAM mount. The mount will hold the mini. For small plane flying (Garmin Pilot), I strap the Otterbox cover to my kneeboard and then clip the mini over the stap and into the cover. -
Haven't stepped foot into the BX in a couple years. I would have a list of things I needed and the BX would not have them but, oddly enough, the items were always allegedly on a truck arriving on next Tuesday.

If that marshmallow Easter bunny replica of the Jonger was a little smaller it would be life size.

After 30 years of flying, a MEL ATP and 12,000 hours a variety of jets large and small, I finally got my SEL in a C-172 via a Commercial Inst check last Saturday. Did the Figure 8 around pylons, chandelle, stalls, short field takeoff/landing, soft field takeoff/landing, power off 180 and normal takeoff/landing. Probably left something off that list. Was it perfect? No, but I passed. The check pilot wasn't expecting perfection, he was expecting safe. Flying small aircraft is dramatically different from the large jets we are used to. If you plan on carrying family and friends, I would highly recommend doing those things that will improve your understanding of how the aircraft performs. It doesn't take much weight or winds to start making large differences in how that thing flies. Adjusting my brain around those ideas took a little time and practice. That, and the fact I'm no longer sitting 15 feet off the ground in the flare.
