  1. It looks like he got himself in a bind with this "red line" comment. Insulting Britain over the last several years didn't help either. By lobbing the decision back to Congress, it appears he is back to voting "present" and thus not responsible for the outcome.
  2. He should have taken her out on the lake.....and not brought her back. People end up accidentally ducted taped to anchors all the time.
  3. A) What the hell is special operations air refueling in regards to a -135? and B) Someone might want to inform the guys at Ft. Campbell that the definition of SOAR has been changed.

You could pick this thread up and drop it in the mid-90s and it would fit.
  5. NTSB has been sending out tweets with nuggets of info.
  6. The hand flying a visual approach is a basic skill. There has been some discussion on another airline forum as to the proficiency of the wide body pilots because they log very few landings, maybe two a month in some cases. This guy probably just came out of the sim not to long ago so currency shouldn't be an issue but I doubt he did any visual only approaches in the sim. Why did the others on the flight deck let that situation develop? Could this be another one of those Asian cultural issues regarding deference shown to authority. We will see.
  7. I fly into SFO a lot. Nav aids have been out for a while. Last time I was in, the PAPIs were also out. You always get speed up and slow down directions from ATC because they are running simulaneous approaches to both runways and they do not want you flying formation down final. Depending on the direction of the arrival or other traffic, you can get slam dunked making getting to a normal glide path a challenge. Too early to say what might have happened but there are usually lots of ATC instructions directing adjustments that can make an approach into SFO a hand full.
  8. Hoss, you say "google harmful effects of polygamy." Here's one for you, google "harmful effects of homosexuality." Either is a bad substitute to what has been deemed a societal norm for eons. Now, we have placed an abnormal situation, homosexual marriage, on par with what has been accepted as normal for centuries, heterosexual marriage. I have no idea what the long term effects or unforeseen consequences will be. Only time will tell.
  9. There are some states with birth certificates now that say Parent 1 and Parent 2 vs Father or Mother.
  10. If he could collect disability for a verbal "cut off at the knees," I think he would be eligible.
  11. Some thoughts on religious beliefs vs the demise of DOMA. Kind of a long article but it brings up some good points, particularly, is the freedom of religion an endangered right. https://www.realclearreligion.org/articles/2013/06/26/the_sexual_revolutions_consequences.html
  12. What is the rule for the minimum pieces of flair on a uniform?

This getting a worthless AAD (I got mine a long time ago) just because it proves you care would be much better If you could substitute the useless AAD for some more worthwhile skill like making balloon animals. Think of the fun. "Captain, I don't see how you are ever going to be worthy to promote to Major. That looks nothing like godzilla!"
  14. Did it get delivered to the correct airfield with the gear down?
  15. Get a dog, a very big dog, that hates joggers.
  16. I'm doing the same thing. I've got a MEL ATP but not a SEL. Fewer manuevers are required for the ATP than the Commercial.
  17. Not enough frames to call it a miss/kill but damn impressive. I recall a moose taking a BDU-33 hit in Alaska and it got up and ran then dropped dead after a couple hundred yards.

After working cleanup in the tornado devastated area here in Granbury, TX, my wife and I have had a couple conversations regarding a shelter since we don't have one. We have added Red Cross apps to phones and iPads for tornado warning since we live in the country with no warning system at all. No discussion of moving, however. Contrary to the 3 little pigs vs the big bad wolf theory, houses made of stone, brick, etc. fared no better than a house of sticks.

I've executed two TCAS directed avoidance manuevers. Had a twin prop of some sort go under the right wing on base leg into Newark and went under a Cessna just after takeoff out of John Wayne. Did not see the first one but did see second one prior to starting the manuever.
  20. Galaxy is a print and also a class of large fictional starships where men boldy go where no man has gone before. Coincidence?
  21. 1. Never fly at night. 2. Never fly in the weather. 3. And never touch the red guarded switches.

Donations are definitely a good idea. Another good idea is jumping in with the local volunteer organizations that are doing clean up because there is literally tons of work to be done. You can do sort, stack, distribute donated supplies like food, water, clothing. Site cleanup is another option. It is hard work but you get to play with chainsaws occasionally. Contact local churches, Samaritans Purse, Habitat for Humanity and they can put you into the fight.
  23. Depends, is he above me on the seniority list?
  24. Video of Achmed the Dead Terrorist was offensive? WTF? I retired just over a year ago so I am clear of the frag pattern but you guys are in a serious world of hurt.
  25. I have been working on getting back into GA aviation so I can get my SEL and a friend showed me Garmin Pilot. $149 subscription per year gets you tons of information, sectionals, approach plates, access to airport information, independent split screen display for approaches with map still in view. 30 day free trial. Not sure of the differences between iPad and Android but looking at reviews, there are differences.
