House to House. Army Sergeant in Iraq on house to house fighting in Iraq. Pretty graphic description of the nastiness of the fight and the conditions of those that fought it. Saddam's Secrets. Iraqi Air Vice Marshall Georges Sada. This guy was a Christian from northern Iraq and never joined the Baath part. Probably why he wasn't killed by Saddam like so many of his AF compatriots. Not sure if a lack of understanding of something lost in translation caused some interesting comments on U.S. hardware. Like calling the Stealth the "B-117" (this is actually accurate and erroneous at the same time) and cruise missiles launched from carriers. He also claimed that 50+ cargo flights carried WMD materials, documentation, and equipment to Syria prior to the start of the Iraqi Freedom. Escape from Camp 14. Truly horrendous situation. A boy born to two political prisoners inside a North Korean prison camp. Basically a non-person with no future other than working to death. Starvation, beatings, executions are a day to day occurrence. Finally meets someone who describes what food is like outside the camp and he decides to escape.

I never understood Eglin as the choice for the F-35 RTU. I was down there a couple years ago with the Reserves looking at a TFI set up with the test wing. This also involved some F-35 issues and the topic came up. Eglin just is not big enough for all the US and Coalition training. The runway configuration, the airspace, and the ranges just pale in comparison with Luke for the amount of training required.

Had an angry controller in SC. I am over the field at 11K on RTB and approach control wants to give me vectors from hell to get to initial. I say cancel IFR. Controller says unable and gives me a vector. I tell him I'm cancelling and send 2 to Tower freq. ATC guy explodes saying we can't do that as we switch freq's. I take it out over the edge of the Class B, drop to 500 feet, contact tower, and enter the pattern VFR. I'm not sure if that controller could have spelled VFR so him understanding the rules was certainly too much.

How do you get your own LGPOS? .....Buy an acre of land near Luke and wait.
-
Not sure which direction you are referring to but I know coming from the east that approach control keeps you high as you pass over DM. Just to make it that much more special, they will vector you in tight. Throw in too fast and it gets to be a real rush to get as much drag out as you can to get the thing slowing down and going down.

Just finished American Sniper by Chris Kyle. SEAL sniper with multiple tours in Iraq, highest confirmed kill count, and longest kill at 2100m. Very interesting reading regarding his experience at the personal level.

Before there was high tech, there had to be low tech. Stepping 15 early to prep the cockpit was always a joy. I failed with my Goggle-fu to locate a supplier of Glendale so I don't know if they still make it. I think anything in the 540-550nm filter band would work better than nothing.

Ought to be able to make a filter out of Glendale Green film.

MAFFS Hercs were initially used during the Deepwater Horizon mess to spray dispersant. To apply the dispersant properly, they had to fly at 75 feet. So, I'd say the low altitude thing is probably tied to getting an effective laydown of whatever it is they are spraying.

RF-4s are almost gone. On deck?? The QF-16.

"He needed killin' " is a valid defense here in Texas. And it sounds very much like he needed killin'.

The problem requiring the F-16 training, IMHO, is that the Raptor is single seat and freakin' expensive. Might as well build a little cusion in the risk of turning a Raptor wannabe loose in a $200 million jet for the first time.

Flew the POS MD-80 for 5 years. Using derates will cause longer takeoff rolls. Anything high altitude and hot with full power isn't very impressive, either. Mexico City comes to mind.

Yes, having flown the 727, 757, 767, and now the 737, there are heavy jets that might compressor stall in a high crosswind. The 727 and 737 both have notes in their ops manuals. In the 737, you can set de-rates for 22K, 24K, and 26K power settings and it says to use 26K. -
Unload the required number of drunks to suit the Rent-A-Cop. Drunks dutifully trudge through the gate showing ID. Driver shows ID and drives through gate. Pick up aforementioned drunks. Rejoin original plan.

They'll pick the UAV to save $1.83 and then complain that there was no one there to help them put their luggage in the overhead, the food was bad, the flight was delayed, they had to pay extra for checked luggage, the plane was dirty, and the in-flight entertainment system didn't work right. When I see the move to more high tech computer controlled systems, i.e. the F-35 or commercial UAV applications, I keep thinking of Stuxnet. Saying "this can't be hacked" is an open challenge to the numerous Mountain Dew and Cheeto fueled basement dwelling morons to try.

Figure out what size you need. You can Google bike fit computer and find out what/how to measure or go to a bike shop that can do it. The bike should fit you, not the other way around. Screw this up and you will develope strange aches and pains in the knees, hips, lower back, neck and you will be miserable until you get a fitting done. Cycling causes enough suffering without adding to it. A "decent bike" in that price range might prove tricky. Craigs List or Ebay might have something. You might find a frame/fork and then could build up from there. As a starting position, I'd recommend mid-range components from Shimano, like 105, or Campagnolo, like Chorus. Regarding cycling components/frames/wheels, they can be light, cheap, or strong. Pick two. Check out Bikesdirect.com for a range of bikes/prices. Find a group to ride with and start small/slow.

Road cycling is how I met him but didn't know he was a doctor. He routinely encourages his patients to take up cycling in place of running. He'd also suggest cycling to patients with back or leg problems due to weight problems to avoid surgery, if at all possible. If we had a slower paced ride planned, it was not uncommon for him to loan a bike to a patient and have them ride a little with us. I used to be a big runner and then started cycling. It is a lot easier on the joints and great anerobic exercise.

I asked a friend of mine, who happens to be an Orthopedic Surgeon, about running. His advice is don't do it and has made a very, very good living replacing knees and hips of ex-runners.

This off Rotten Tomatoes: It's undeniably reverent of the real-life heroes in its cast, but Act of Valor lets them down with a clichéd script, stilted acting, and a jingoistic attitude that ignores the complexities of war. First, not much of a script. No problem because there are lots of scenes with cool shit and of bad guys deccelerating high speed metal. Second, stilted acting. See my first point. Third, jingoistic attitude and ignoring the complexities of war. Obviously the raters have no idea how complex it is to pull that shit off and make it look easy. And how in the hell can putting bullets in drug runners and wannabe jihadists be a bad idea. I'd give a solid 85 hits out of 100.

1st female Air Force combat vet in run for congress

Before she launches on her campaign tour, I hope she remembers to check that the tank is topped off. It would be embarrassing to check your fuel state just after leaving and realize the tank was empty.
