  1. Rest in peace all. Capt Hill hits close to home. UAA ROTC grad. Met with him when he showed the det around the squadron last year. Definatally a good dude. Sad to see all go so early in life. Cheers bro, thanks for your service! Thank every crew member for everything. It's a serious business we're in. Very Sobering moment.
  2. Sad thing to read. I'm from Alaska, got my commission up there at UAA, and was at the C-17 squadron a couple months before I left for Whiting. Prayers for friends family and the crew members. Just puts things in perspective. Thanks to the crew for their service!

  4. I remeber 11 September 2001 just as if it were yesterday. I was a sophomore in high school, and my best friend was living with us, because his dad was teaching a course at the AFA. We were getting up to get ready for school, when I walked downstairs to get breakfast, all the lights were off, but the TV was on. My mom was sitting on the floor quiet. She was glued to the TV. The first plane had hit the tower. I got my cereal, and sat down on the floor, watching as the news unfolded. The second plane hit, as my brother had walked out into the streets to go catch the bus. The base was quiet, and there was somebody driving around the housing area informing everyone that there was no school. The base had been shut, and nobody could get on or off. I remember sitting in front of the TV the whole day, watching as each event took place. I don't thinki taht I saw my dad for almost a week after that happened. He was working long days. I remember also having to walk to school sometimes (over two miles away, if you know how the layout to Eielson AFB is, I lived at the farthest possible house from the school), because it was damn near impossible to get through the gates in the morning. That day most definatally changed my life. The crazy thing was that it was "Uniform day" for my JROTC class. I had my blues out and ready to go. I remember being so proud to wear those, even though I wasn't real AF yet. That day solidified my intent to serve this country, and now 8 years later, I am on the thresh hold of actually entering Active Duty. :salute: to all the fallen, and to those that have served or are serving. I hope I can make an impact in the fight against terrorism. Thank you all for your service! BLud
  5. So reporting in, should I go in blues, ABU's...??? I was looking into Pace or Bagdad, because Gulf Breeze is a little bit out of the way. My wife is in the GS system, and plans on staying that way, but when she called the CPO office down there, she was told that most of the jobs were contracted on Whiting. So the drive from Milton, or even to Bagdad isn't that bad (how about traffic from that area to Eglin?)? Also, this is a very random question, but I get down there in December, is it standard to get 10 (or 14) biz days to look for a house? So if I get that, then the time frame for me to report back would be Christmas week...which would mean that I would almost get the whole month of December off? Does that sound right, because logically, because of the dates, it sounds correct, but logically with the military mind frame, it does not. Thanks for all your help guys, you're making this move MUCH easier! Any tips are appreciated. BLud
  6. --BUMP!-- So it's been almost a year since the last update. I'm headed down to ASBC en-route to Whiting for UPT. I'll be on casual status for probably 4 months (I grad ASBC 4 Dec, RNLT to Whiting 5 Dec and have IFS sometime in April). Will they try to bump my IFS date up to enter training quicker, or is it going to be a hurry up and wait (not that I'm complaining, coming from Alaska to the beautiful and warm Florida!!!!!) What is casual like there? Is it still the whole 2 hours in the office, then released to the gym? Any word on the T-6's, or do they still have the -34's? Any other misc updates, as it has been almost a year since the last one? Thanks guys! BLud
  7. Sweet! Thanks now on to fight the good fight of getting the legal documents in order!
  8. Lol, so I'm getting the runaround! THAT SUCKS! From what my NCO is telling me (I hate being an unexperience ROTC Grad!!!!!!!!) he sent the orders into the Finance office on Thursday, and that it could take up to 10 days for the "Funds Cite" to be approved. I'm less than 45 days from EAD, and about 28 from leaving AK, so this is a high inconvinience to the whole moving situation. Without my orders I can't break the lease in my appartment, so a whole chain of shit is just flowing right now. When I called the Finance office, the Amn that answered the phone said he didn't know and that I needed to call an LT. When I asked him for that number, he said "I dunno" and promply hung up the phone. So what can I do to stick it to them, and get my orders that were promissed to me over a week ago. Thanks for your help guys! BLud
  9. LOL so what you're saying is that I will probably never get this, and I'm stuck in LT limbo in AK FOREVER!!!???!!!! LOL I keed I keed!
  10. I'm waiting on my first set of orders. The NCO in my ROTC office has had them done since Monday, but he's waiting on Finance to approve the Funds Cite. What is this, and how long does it usually take? Thanks BLud
