  1. Yes, but someone has to foot the bill. When I got them 'free', they were paid for by squadron funds. When guys in our squadron wanted them, the RA had to sign a letter for optometry stating who/what to charge. All the optometry guys cared about was the fund cite or line of accounting to charge them to. If your non-flying unit will foot the bill, you can still get them. I'm not aware of a way to get them otherwise.
  2. That is just f'd up. Belongs in the What's Wrong with the Air Force or Leaving the Air Force for the Airlines threads. Glad he was able to jink out of it.
  3. Very late reply...would be Interested to hear how this went down for future reference. When this situation hit our squadron, setting a DOS after getting a tasking wasn't an option unless the DOS was well past the projected return date.
  4. Damn, that's awesome. L10 Pro is a great program. If you don't want the mobile stuff and got it for free with no subscriptions, that's a great deal.
  5. Sorry, yes, it's subscription if you want to use anything besides your desktop. But since the ability to sync with my phone was a major selling point when I bought it (use the phone to log flights), this new version is a fail. For me. YMMV. $50 a year on top of $180 to buy the new desktop and mobile versions on top of the hundreds I've already spent on the current version just to keep my current functionality is...annoying.
  6. Yep, much to my disappointment. It's now a subscription only product. And while you can still have access to your current data if you stop your subscription, you can't add any more flights. Not happy about the change because I've already spent a lot of money on the current version which is quickly going to become obsolete and useless. iCloud syncing on the old version (if you already paid for it) no longer works if you upgrade to the newest Mac OS. And gets no more support from Coradine.
  7. Holy hell, that was brutal.
  8. Go to one of Albie's interview courses at Emerald Coast Interview consulting. It's pricey ($400) and generally focused on airlines but when I went through recently, there was a dude prepping for a Reserve interview and they were able to help him quite a bit.
  9. Unless you have a DOS in the system already that would prevent you from fulfilling the 179, you have no options. If you get tagged for a 179 without an established DOS, you can't set one to get out of it. Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!
  10. In case anyone is still interested, we just had an 11F in our squadron approved for PC with 2 years 4 months left on UPT ADSC. No votes from Wing and AFPC but approved at SAF/PC. Had an intent to hire letter at an ANG unit which probably helped. Also probably helped that the AF has to meet a slightly lower end strength goal in FY 15. Congrats to him!
  11. This may belong in the "WTF?" thread. That's a serious WTF if true. Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!

  14. According to Part 61.159: (g) An airline transport pilot certificate obtained under this section is subject to the pilot in command limitations set forth in §61.167(b) and must contain the following limitation, “Restricted in accordance with 14 CFR 61.167.” The pilot is entitled to an airline transport pilot certificate without the limitation specified in this paragraph when the applicant presents satisfactory evidence of having met the aeronautical experience requirements of §61.159 and the age requirement of §61.153(a)(1). So basically when you can show you have 1500 hours and are old enough, you get your full up ATP. https://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/retrieveECFR?gp=&r=PART&n=14y2.0.1.1.2#14:2.0.1.1.2.7.1.2 Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!
  15. Wait...never mind...
  16. I don't know Chief Cody but I've heard he's awesome. This wasn't intended to be a Cody-bashing. My heartburn lies mostly at the Wing level. Airmen in my squadron were unimpressed by the pedestal the Command Chief placed himself on. Might be a rarity but it was our reality. Whatever. Not worth the argument.
  17. GMAFB. Hurt Feelings Reports can be found elsewhere on this forum. I am not bashing enlisted or even command Chiefs as I've worked with phenomenal ones many times. I've also worked with total douchebags who operated WAY outside their lanes. I HATE it when dudes of any rank expect to be treated like they're ing royalty.
  18. Seriously?
  19. Protocol Fail and CMSAF Fail. He's an E-9 senior enlisted advisor, not an O-8 general officer. Big difference, both in responsibilities and backgrounds. I've seen too many E-9 Command Chiefs get too cool for school and elevate themselves out of sight of the enlisted airmen they're supposed to watch out for.
  20. Total and complete fail.
  21. Unfunded mandate. Someone forgot to coordinate that announcement correctly at the Air Staff to ensure the good idea was accompanied by actual personnel plus ups. CSS re start plan did not include any actual billets so essentially nothing but a good sound bite. I wish I hadn't spent 6 months in a job where I had to learn that... Essentially, your CSS is just a repackaging of your UPC and secretary (if you have one) with new job descriptions.

    BODN App

DFRESH, great app, thanks. Is there a way to make it open on unread threads? Mine opens on notifications.
  23. Totally agree. About the only benefit is that it's one more box to check on an app - not worth the extra time and money IMO.
  24. I got 15 in the T-3. Realize also you'll have to take a separate check ride for the SE ATP in a SE airplane. Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!
