So at a base in one of the "less than free states" (Travis), state law prohibits a person to carry a firearm with a magazine capable of holding more than 10 rounds. In some SFS personnel's infinite wisdom, they decided that aircrew issued M-9s would only have 10 rounds per magazine. Never mind the fact that these weapons never left the base other than on our jet and they were required to go to fucking COMBAT, they decided to play along. I was once held up by the armory guys in Germany because they thought we were missing 5 rounds per mag. Oh BTW we still weren't compliant with state law since we still had the standard mags that held 15 rounds, but only had 10. UFB

Anyone in the know on this? I'm in my last year of eligibility ('10 Capt) and my DAS is Nov '12. The PSDM says you must have at least 3 years TOS by 1 Oct 15 and previous program briefing slides are adamant that no TOS waivers will be granted. My understanding is that this requirement (and the change from 5 years of eligibility to 4) was to ease complications with school looks. Now that everyone's Majors boards ('09 Capt and beyond) are pushed back a year, is it really possible that I'll be ineligible since I'm 5 weeks short of the TOS restriction? Thoughts? I've had this discussion with my leadership with no firm answer. Either way I'll apply and let the cards fall where they may...

Decline of Baseops.net (aka The Wrath of PYB/Mods gone wild)

Here's your answer... https://www.wantscheck.com/Home/TeamWantsCheck/tabid/315/Default.aspx -
When I ask where the crew bus after an hour, don't tell me "enroute". Where the fuck is "enroute"? A simple "I don't know how to do my job" or "I'll call them again" is just fine.

I'm not familiar with the cargo system on a 747 but in that config, do those pallets even lock to the floor??? Looks like the straps are the only thing keeping it from sliding around.

As mentioned, the effects of runaway trim and sudden aft CG shift are different in reaction time and total affect on the ability to stay airborne, but after doing a planned (and per-briefed) full nose up trim condition in the sim, I feel that in the moment I would at least start the necessary corrections (get slow with a shit-ton of bank). Of course this doesn't mean it would be successful and I would effectively just fly to the crash site, but to discount this training is a foul. At the very least it promotes discussion and puts the ideas in th back of your nugget that under certain circumstances may save your life; at least more so than never talking about it in the first place. Now to what really matters...Godspeed to the crew and anyone affected. It's been a tough week for all. Fly safe and check six

Maybe I'm misunderstanding...but does this even require rescinding by the MAJCOM/CCs? Gen Welsh said he has no blues policy in place and "Its up to the MAJCOM/CCs to continue this tradition awfulness". To me there is currently no policy and if MAJCOM/CCs want it, they have to implement it (that whole more restrictive thing). The way I see it, if you wear blues this Monday it is on your own accord and will illustrate to leadership that you like the policy, further increasing the chance of it sticking around...just sayin.

Information on PCS/moves/moving (DITY, TMO, DLA, storage)
XL0901 replied to SUX's topic in General Discussion
Question about PCSing with a boat... Obviously doing a partial DITY and getting the weight of the boat and trailer. I was TDY enroute for 30 days and was forced to put my boat in to outdoor rec storage on base, can I claim this cost to offset my tax liability for the DITY? More importantly, I know moving supplies (totes, boxes, tape, etc) can be claimed against DITY tax liability, how about having my boat shrink-wrapped for the cross-country move? The way I see it is necessary material to protect my personal property (and set me back $400). For me I think it an easy sell but can only imagine the response I will get from Airman Snuffy at TMO. Anyone do this/heard of something like this before? Thanks! -
WRT the MAF webinar, the email I saw (to my Sq/CC) doesn't suggest anything significantly different than than previous cycle. Hopefully they are just lead turning the inevitable questions and phone calls to AFPC. I guess we will see on Thursday.

This has TDD written all over it...specifically a certain O-5 who will do anything to move the mission. As was said, you are moving channel cargo from an installation that has little use in current ops (based on your no alcohol comment). BIG "2" on the M-ASAP. I believe in the fact that you will be safe from reprisal and you will be shocked to hear the response and how far up the chain it goes. Bottom line, your bro needs to fly his jet and not worry about a guy halfway across the world who has no clue about what the crews are going through. When I was out there I had four 16 missions in 5 days, the last of which I took a waiver for. That was the last time...I told the crew that if it happened again (Unless the field was being overrun) we were staying downrange. The next day everyone had well packed A-bags. There is only one mission worth it and even then there are always other options.

Wait, what kind of hot car?

What are you coming to fly? Most of the single LTs rent apts or houses in Vacaville. There really isn't much for nightlife in Vacaville or Fairfield. Chances are you will spend most of your weekends in Sac or SF. I bought a house in Fairfield (one if the better areas) but I'm married. Two single Lts in my Sq bought houses but have roomates as well. It would be hard to do without. That being said chances are there will be someone looking for a roommate in your Sq. You could always rent my house...I'll be looking for renters in Aug.

Everything you said is 100% correct. Whoever "they" are is wrong. Your chain does not approve AMs...AFCENT does. We do exactly what you are trying to do all the time and it has always been approved by AFCENT. Sounds like you've got some shitty exec that doesn't want to do their job. If in doubt, get in the AFCENT dec guide or on the website and find a number for UDPU (USAFCENT Decoration Processing Unit), they can give you the official answer. In fact I had the AF dentist remove mine because I was tired of it. I figured 10 years was enough.

Got my degree in Aviation Management at North Dakota. If money is your issue...an aviation degree won't help you. I had a 4 year ROTC scholarship and still had 25K (After help from the rents and working 2 jobs) in loans from the flight training the AF doesn't pay for. Now if aviation is your passion it shouldn't matter anyway. Worst case...you end up in a shit load of debt, pay it off in 4 years, and be fine. Most people have to spend money to make money...embrace it. Also, hopefully you aren't over 25. The clock is ticking...

Wait...you got a number for Travis finance? And they were helpful. Please tell me how cause I've been trying for 3 years
