  1. Houston is cool and all by why not go somewhere further away? My T-6 XC was completely dictated by the weather but we went from DLF to Lincoln, Ne (RON), to COS to Santa Fe (RON), Roswell to SAT (RON) and home. Not necessarily the greatest locations but an awesome trip none the less. Some of our guys went to P-Cola. Just saying when I was in TX I wanted to go as far as I could. Besides we went to Houston on O&Bs. Have fun either way!
  2. I stayed at Enterprise Square apartments for 3+ months. A small step above Applecreek. Best part is the management. Not necessarily the brightest but you could give them 3 days move out notice and they don't care. Also rent with utilities came out to $26.50 a day.
  3. Dude really??? The proper thread for your question is still on the first page...you didn't even have to search for it. Oh wait, you already posted there too. Maybe Toro is still in a holiday food coma and won't notice.
  4. Not saying I completely disagree without you just playing a little devil's advocate. Now I hope to think that everyone in uniform can be trusted but as we just saw at Ft Hood that's not always the case. When I'm a passenger on an airline I don't want anyone to be exempted from full screening just because of who they are/appear to be. Now before you cite the pilots going through more "lax" security, I can assure you a pilot doesn't need fancy gadgets to do the unthinkable. Ok back to my eggnog and brandy...Merry Xmas!
  5. Yeah I'm tired of the inconspicuous BOOB I have every time we have to carry on the jet. Some of our guys have the ankle holster but as previously said, it would take ages to actually draw it. Keep up the conversation, I'm looking for good solutions.
  6. Agreed. I log primary time just as you mentioned. However since I am not an AC I would not be able to obtain a type by FAA rule interpretation. My reference of "simulated PIC time" applied to UPT. Since it is now possible to attend UPT without a PPL, some people are unable to log PIC time even if you were the "sole manipulator of the controls". Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but one cannot log PIC time in an A/C requiring a type rating if you do not have said rating. This is just the way it was explained to me. The T-1 program satisfies the PIC requirements for a type to the FAA, PIQ at Altus or wherever does not. Definately some gray areas. Edit to clarify
  7. I don't remember what it says exactly, but your T-1 FSDO letter says something about training being completed as PIC (really it is simulated PIC...mostly). This is how you are able your type. The letter is in lieu of a form 8. PIQ (-135 or otherwise) training is copilot training (SIC to the FAA) so you do not meet the requirement of being an AC (PIC) with 10 hours. Not sure but maybe you could get a SIC type (Not sure why you would want to...besides I think the only civilian requirement for a SIC type is ground school. Not positive though)
  8. Actually saw these last time I was there (about 10 days ago) Bet that ONE dude is pissed Edit: Based on his lack of PT gear AND reflective belt I assumed he was a civilian...or a transient guy who doesn't give a shit
  9. Big fat "2" to that one!
  10. Umm...First, wouldn't it be nice if that was all you had to worry about? Second...here you go. Dover: Airland only, 1 squadron, also "My C-5m is better than your C-17" McGuire: Airland only. 1 squadron, Talk to a McGuire guy. Unless you have a good reason to go there... Charleston: "Best of the best...HUAH", but seriously, good location though. Airdrop/Airland McChord: Cloudy anyone?? Hippies anyone? Airdrop/Airland Travis: Airland. 1 Squadron Elmo: PACAF...different ball game. Don't really deploy. Airdrop/Airland. 1 Squadron Hickam: Da Kine Bra...Shoots, PACAF, Airdrop/Airland. 1 Squadron. Island fever?? Bottom line...it's your life, why don't you decide. Pick on mission first, location second...you won't be there much anyway. If you don't post your assignment we will all assume it's not a -17 and this was all just a waste of time.
  11. Revival... So our new Boss is fairly disappointed with our current snackbar situation and has personally tagged the new LTs (3 of us) to fix the problem. Aside from the standard of crappy selection and losing money each month, the main problem is with lack of use of the awesome bar we have. We have a huge bar with beer tap, fooseball, darts, big screen tv with speaker system and tons of space. The issue is, being a C-17 squadron, half of the squadron is gone at any given time so when folks are in town they would rather spend off time getting caught up at home or spending time with their fam. We have a few ideas like holding our weekly CT meetings in the bar followed by a casual "Have a beer and shoot the shit" session afterwords, but that only applies to a quarter or less of the squadron. I don't think there is any interest in creating a space to hang out til the wee hours on a Friday but rather an environment where people WANT to come hang out for a couple of hours and swap stories. We have been told that the sky is the limit and end of year funds are fully available. Any advice would be appreciated, especially from other "No one is ever around" type squadrons. Thanks Added: There are a total of 5 LTs in the whole squadron and a ton of Capts...most with families and the majority of the junior Os and Es only come to work to fly and for mandatory fun (Which we don't want to create more of). So those are the demographics we are working with.
  12. Only cool if the King is on the inside...
  13. Must have missed that one...that's 2 in a row calling out Ops and MX Edit: Nevermind...found it. Pirate I have to post it, just too unbelievible to pass up.
  14. It wasn't...no need to worry
  15. Uhh...Really?
  16. Don't tease
  17. Depends on the instructor...I had mine the whole time and it was awesome. If you have one definitely bring it with you to survival, and then clear it with your instructor before you take it to the field. There were a few groups that had to use the water bag even if you had a camelback.
  18. Ok so one night walking my dogs on base and came across a baby rattle snake...I'm talking new born...on the front steps of the CDC (actually my dogs found it first). I gave it a wide bearth and headed home. On my way I saw a SFS car and two cops on the side on the road (God only knows what they were doing). I told them about the snake at the CDC and explained what I thought was the obvious concern having a baby rattle snake at the CDC. Where there is one there are probably many more and one very large mama snake. They proceeded to look at me like I was an idiot but I force them to call it in. They acted like I was wasting their time but told me it would be taken care of. I went home. The next morning (Monday) I called the CDC first thing expecting (not sure why) that they had been informed. The CDC worker freaked out and yelled in the background to her co-workers to bring the kids inside and look around the building. Maybe I'm the only one that thinks a possible rattlesnake den around the CDC is a problem...but I doubt it. Anyway it wouldn't have taken much to get the word out but instead they decided their time was better used smoking a cig on the side of the road. I don't have kids but I can only image the parents of those kids would have been pretty pissed off had they known about it.
  19. Just had chills go down my spine. That's perfect...best part is he won't get it right away...but he will.
  20. Just thoughts...don't flame me. Besides its the beer talking Edit: The FAIP one is perfect
  21. Yeah sorry...point was that it made the idea of "changing out the chute/bottle" virtually impossible.
  22. Funny you brought that up Disclaimer: the only time I have had experience with parachute O2 bottleswas back in T-6s during UPT I had similar discussions with my IP and MX many times on cold days. The TO says something about temp corrections (I remember 3 degrees but whatever) but the fact is that if it is cold there is no real way to know if the needle that is below the black is good or not. All of my solutions involved MX looking at it and deciding it was ok and my IP giving me the option (Good on him I say). I always took it with one exception when it showed above 2200 PSI. A little different on a 1.3 training sortie when we rarely went above 200. Anyway, I say good on you for making a big deal about it. Sounds like it is something few people bring up but obviously needs more attention. Not sure about where you are but our AFE chief is a flyer...could get a lot more attention with him.
  23. It all depends on the area code. If one of the numbers is not in an area code that AT&T (Or any provider) services then they cant port the number from the other provider. In my case, my number was an area code that was serviced and my wife's was not. She had to get a new number from one of their service areas (Can be any area code) so she got a number in my area code and then we were able to combine in to a family plan.
  24. Actually we did exactly that. The minute our drop ended, about 1930, we piled in to cars with our friends and families and headed to the country club in town. There we drank, socialized and enjoyed great service all night til 3am. We even had pizza delivered at midnight with no hassle.
