Because then you'll have 'new guys' to the Wing competing with 'Homesteaders". It kind of happens now. The only saving grace is past performance...oh wait, no one looks at that anymore. Rock Bottom Line (I just wanted an excuse to say that): Don't be the new guy at your Wing when PRFs are due. Timing is everything....

Taxes, the Deficit/Debt, and the Fiscal Cliff

I think 75% is still passing on your PME tests....you're promotable!! 75% also good enough for the PT test...you passed! Nothing wrong with 75%...if 75% wasn't good enough, they would make it a failing grade. Don't worry though..the way things are going this year, I think your grade will improve to 80% (1 out of 5)! -

Taxes, the Deficit/Debt, and the Fiscal Cliff

Nothing against you personally NS, but this way of thinking is exactly what is wrong with our system. Someone just says "It is authorized in reg, so lets just keep wasting money" instead of saying "It is authorized in the reg, but it is a waste of resources...let's change the reg" There are way too many examples like this..yes, including BAH, GTC spending requirements, transportation requirements, etc. Can't tell you how many times I found airline tickets WAY cheaper than what TMO quotes, yet, we go with the more expensive ticket because "thats what the reg says." The problem is no one wants to change the reg because 1) They get extra money and 2) It requires some work. Until we change that way of thinking, we'll continue to waste dollars and then wonder why we have to furlough people, cut programs, and reduce flying hours. Really, none of this should be a surprise to anyone. -
Taxes, the Deficit/Debt, and the Fiscal Cliff

Yeah, got it. I understand people are going to still buy necessities like gas, toilet paper...I'll even throw beer in that category. These necessities (minus the beer) are supposedly prebated up to a point based on your income. Do you really think people buy enough, even at a 23% tax rate, to generate and sustain the required revenue to run this country? That is a lot of shit paper. That is my point. We would be banking the revenue for the entire budget of the federal government on toilet paper, gas, and beer....an exaggeration I know, but in a down economy people aren't necessarily buying expensive things...certainly not enough to generate $4T in revenue. We aren't even talking state taxes yet. Consumption tax as a single source of revenue is a terrible idea....the people pushing this aren't thinking it through. Again...caveman here, but I'm open to learning something new. -

This sounds great in theory...until you're in down economy and people are saving money and aren't buying things, except necessities which you have tax prebated. What will be your source of revenue if spending decreases? What if this tax actually decreases consumer spending or even creates a black market? What if people decide to just buy their goods and services in a different country as to not pay these taxes? Is there even one successful economy out there using this form of taxation as a single source of revenue? Note: I'm a caveman economist...someone please educate me. -
I knew things were going to shit when we started getting "Virtual Commander's Calls" via e-mail. Yes, leadership through e-mail...that is the wave of the future. That way, all the people with zero personality we promoted and put in command can continue to lead manage without ever having to talk to anyone.

If you think capital gains tax increase will be temporary, then you are actually making a "prediction" with regards to investments and you should invest accordingly. I predict just the opposite. I think capital gains tax rates will increase and will stay that way for the next few years. If I pull out, I lose no money if I'm right or wrong. If I stay in, I have the chance that I will pay 5% more in taxes on that same income next year in addition to potentially losing value on my stock as the "panic" sellers drive the stock value down. Why wouldn't I pull out? Making predictions WRT world events, tax rate increases, innovations and new technologies is how "the market" works. It is all about predictions...no one knows exactly what the market will do. Like I said before, sometimes you're right, sometimes you're wrong. I was wrong about Apple, Ford, and GE back in 2009...I didn't have the confidence in those companies at the time, so I lost some earning potential there. but I made up for it with other correct predictions. "The Market" is emotionally driven by the people who invest in it. If you want to keep your money in the market as it fluctuates, go ahead...history shows that it will recover over the long run so you will still be ahead. You just miss out on earning potential. However, if you would like to add risk and play the market whether as an amature or with professional advice, ride the waves of emotional ups and downs and make more money. The more you risk (predict and play the market) the more you make (and the more you stand to lose). I'm just a caveman investor, but I've managed to double my money every 7-8 years with low to medium risk investments while playing the market. Yes I've lost money, but I've made more than I lost. I'm going to continue to do it because it works for me. I pulled out of my long-term investments two weeks ago because I plan to invest in real estate next year...why not save myself 5% on my long term capital gains by cashing in before the rates increase? It makes perfect sense to me....but who am I? Just an amature caveman investor... -

Working the market is all about predictions...sometimes you're right...sometimes you're wrong. I've been right more times than I've been wrong, which is partly why I'm more than halfway to becoming that millionaire. Give it another 7-10 years...that is soon enough for me. I'm actually surpised the market didn't dip as much as I thought it would. I was expecting a 500-800 point drop between Thursday and Friday. There must be some brave investors out there who really believe this administration is going to make a deal by Monday. I hope for everyone's sake they do...but I'm certainly not banking on it. -

Taxes, the Deficit/Debt, and the Fiscal Cliff

It is win/win for the POTUS....either he gets Republican support for the tax increases, or he can blame the Republicans for the fiscal cliff disaster. Either way, Republicans get caught with their dicks in their hands. We already know the sheeple that voted this man back in office will believe anything they hear. Regardless of the outcome, the Republicans will have their hands covered in this dirt....and the POTUS will sit pretty (at least to 50-something percent of the sheeple) looking like he tried his best to keep the average Joe's taxes from going up...when really, it is what he wanted all along. I have pulled out of the market in anticipation of failure of this government to strike a deal by the end of this week and the resulting crash that I think will happen either Thursday or Friday. Good luck to all! -

General Petraeus resigns amid affair scandal

I'm willing to bet there are a significant number of senior officers from all services holding these kinds of skeletons in their closets....Very significant number. This doesn't surprise me at....Titties have that same effect on me too... I'll bet there are a significant number of posters in this very thread with those secrets....E-ticket check!! -
I dont know who they use as a board president for these Capt boards, but I assume it is an O-6. The rational side of me wants to believe there is more to this story than just a bunch of LTs with spotless records getting kicked out or delayed a promotion because they dont have enough OPRs or their PRFs were lacking because of neglect or undermanned exec shops. However, the way things have been going at AFPC and the perceived mismanagement (my opinion only) over the past few years, I believe it is actually happening that way. I really want to believe that no one above the O-6 level knows this is going on AND actually approves the practice...I'm guessing they just get briefed that it is 'normal' force shaping initiatives. There is a cancer at AFPC driving this stupidity, and they need to explain themselves and be held accountable. When we are bitching about spending cuts, the last thing we need to do is waste millions of dollars training aircrew and then kicking them out because they don't have enough OPRs...this is beyond ridiculous. Someone needs to be fired immediately. How in the f*ck does anyone explain to congress why there is a pilot shortage when this buffoonery (and previous RIF buffoonery) is taking place?!? There has to be more to it...Smh
-
My guess is they'll show them the door along with their rather expensive training....this is a numbers game. No one really cares about how much we spent to get them there. I go back to one of my original points about the new promotion opportunities for LTs and Capts....if the Air Force already knows the promotion opportunity (not selection rate) is less than 100%, then bring in that many less 2LTs for any given year group so the "opportunity" is 100%. There will be the normal attrition for those DUIs, Article 15s, and banging of the general's underage daughter that will bring the select rate to less than 100%...just like it was the decades before some unpolished shoe came up with this brilliant idea of a promotion board to Capt.. What sense does it make to bring in 3000 LTs knowing that only 95% will have the opportunity to make Capt. We are spending wasting money training these guys just to show them the door 3 years later. Really, what return on investment are you getting by doing it this way? If someone knows the answer, please enlighten me...I'm actually being serious and not sarcastic for once...
-
Please tell me this is a joke or that there is more to it.....at least tell me these guys banged the generals daughter (legal of course) or something like that just to make the story good.. Is that how far disconnected AFPC is that they are passing over bubbas who don't have enough OPRs because of the way the AFI requires OPRs/TRs are written? Can an O-6 not figure out that if an aircrew member who normally has 1.5 years of training reports isn't going to have 3 or 4 OPRs prior to their 'Captain board' (which is a joke in itself). I'm not surprised, I already knew we were in trouble...this is just more icing.

Ah, the 'hurt vagina syndrome'. When you have to resort to pulling rank for something so minor...or worse, call back to someone's squadron/base to tell on them, then you have failed in leadership. I'm sure there is more to the story like the Major being disrespectful (I'm just guessing) but if the Lt Col couldn't handle the problem right there on the spot....they fail in my opinion. They only called back because their vagina was hurt and they lacked the skill to handle the problem (the Major) on the spot. I've seen it where the senior officer witnesses an infraction and doesn't even address the junior member...they make a phone call and make someone else do it later. FAIL. SMH

It is legit. I just got an e-mail from some retired queen or something in Zimbabwe wanting me to cash a check for her for over $100M from the Royal Bank of Zamunda, and I get to keep half! So, say what you want, but there is money to be had in Zimbabwe....and I'm going to get mine bitches!! I may go tell the WG/CC to do f*ck himself now that I'm a millionaire!!! I'M RICH BITCH!!! Edit: Turns out the e-mail was a hoax...I found out after I crashed the Wing Standup and did the helicopter dick yelling 'I'm rich bitch' in front of the entire wing leadership that I was in fact NOT a millionaire. One Article 15 later plus a 365 later, moral of the story is...beware of Internet hoaxes and countires with sovereign debt.

I do know it is not the end of the world for twice passed over dudes. I know a few who were twice passed over, non-continued, got waiver to go reserves (they said it was relatively painless) got full time positions in the guard and reserves, AND were selected for promotion to O-5 on this year's reserve promotion board. I don't know how common that is, but it happened to two people I know. Even if the active duty can't keep you, there is life on the outside as a reservist both traditional and AGR. I think it would be a little tougher if you had some kind of referral OPR or Article 15, but It can happen. The AF has been pretty quiet about this year's continuation....did they not kick a bunch of people out this year? Most everyone I know was continued this year unlike last year where no one I knew was continued.
