  1. Just to fan the flames of the Apache incident; I spoke with an Apache pilot about this to make sure it wasn't him or his unit. He said it wasn't and the MDR showed it was at 21 ktas at the top of the turn and you should never be below 70 ktas anywhere in the maneuver. He said it was a pitch back turn at low altitude, high gross weight, and high DA. Ended by saying if the PIC didn't know he would hit the ground with all that then he shouldn't be flying 64s anyway.
  2. This stuff is crazy. The only reason you guys get all wrapped up about this stuff is because you know it exists thanks to the Internet. I had no idea anything existed or what the test even was. They asked "does anyone want to apply for pilot?". I said "sure, why not?". They told me to drive 2 hours to another school that weekend to take some test with a joystick so I did. You've got what you've got. Just have fun in school and quit worrying about stuff. They make almost everyone a pilot these days anyway.
  3. In typical Air Force fashion, the UPT bases have no plan in place right now. I don't know if anyone below maybe a wing leadership level knows this is going to happen. I have no idea how the bases are going to absorb this because the flying hour program was cut for this year, the student load was subsequently increased (especially in phase 3 due to the T-44 program closing), and the effective IP manning rate is at its lowest it has been in a while due in part to the MC-12 deployments and the length of them increasing. So, this is going to be fun to see how it is implemented. With most all classes behind the timeline this is going to be comical to watch.
  4. Back to the issue of "pre-work"... If it exists, how do they expect those of us who get told the night before or morning of "Hey, someone didn't show up to SOS. Go home, grab your bags, we'll have a jet waiting to take you to Maxwell in 2 hours" to get it done? Will they turn you around and send you back home (fingers crossed)?
  5. Looks like here's your job: https://careers.boozallen.com/job/Point-Mugu-Electronic-Warfare-Systems-Engineer%2C-Mid-Job-CA/1496661/
  6. The P-8 has run into more problems than "turbo prop guys not understanding how larger jet aircraft work". The P-3 flies real low and slow because it has to release torpedoes, maverick missiles, and other munitions and get positive returns from its buoys and other equipment. The 737 airframe does not fly as well at 200' and slow to release weapons. There's a reason for props on low altitude aircraft. The next problem is the 737 was not designed to have a bomb bay and they are having a lot of problems with fatigue and service life of the doors on the bomb bay. It would be nice if an aircraft designed to search and destroy could destroy more than a couple targets before its bay doors ripped off. If the commercial 737 was better designed for low altitude operations and weapons employment then the Navy wouldn't have to spend so many years testing and having it redesigned. Sometimes the most widely produced aircraft in the world isn't necessarily the best answer or the 737 would have replaced C-130s and B-52s and stuff a long time ago.
  7. Be a T6 or T37 FAIP, you'll get mad respect, tons of chicks, and THE choicest assignments afterwards.
  8. I'm mainly a target shooter and love putting holes through paper, plinking, shooting clays, and anything else I can try to improve my skill on. I prefer revolvers because of their pointability, reliability, accuracy, and toughness. I was wishy washy until I got my first Colt Python. This being said, I love my 1911 and have never shot a Sig I didn't like. I don't worry about home defense because in the very slim chance I would need home defense I would just grab one of my old shotguns. However, if it comes to personal defense or concealed carry you can finally slim down below the .38 reliably with the new .327 Federal round. This is a very nice little package that Ruger offers in its revolvers now. Great post BigFreddie I just thought I'd throw that nugget in there, the .327 is a big upgrade over the old .32's.
