  1. Anyone have any good stories on this front? I’ve flown with some dummies over the years that are oddballs but never to this level. The thing that drives me absolutely insane is the guy who harps on CRM all the time but uses that as a crutch to be bad at his job because someone is backing him up. Had a couple of those (military only) but very few and far between.
  2. Shocking because all I’ve heard over the last several years is pilot shortage and sending a FAIP outside of pilot production is surprising. Not outside the dudes skills or anything, just a production standpoint.
  3. Damn, thoughts and prayers to those dudes.
  4. Is there any kind of mechanism to say you don’t want to fly with certain people anymore?
  5. I think the biggest WTF in that article is that AI is supposed to be incorporated into the cockpit. Probably worth a thread for discussion but AI is a big Snake Oil pitch, IMHO. At least General AI. Watching a Strike dude eating that popsicle in a manner that would make Harvey Milk blush is as surprising as a sunrise.
  6. Probably all the tools that got left in other jets and not replaced to save money mean there aren’t any screwdrivers left to work on them.
  7. IMHO, congressional folks are not the turds they’re made out to be (with certain exceptions). If they actually know, they’ll work it. If they don’t, they can’t help. The one and only time I worked with my representative, it got fixed immediately. I almost guarantee that letter will at least start something.
  8. I hope we take advantage of some lessons learned with the recent drone centric conflicts and put these folks to good use. Even if we get out of the MQ-9 business completely, turn them loose with some funding to innovate a generational leap in RPA’s for the US military.
  9. I’m surprised the Navy would let someone go from one demo team to another back to back but good on her.
  10. Well from a non-AMC guy, I hope the General and his folks aren’t afraid to attempt to try new things to make the most important MAJCOM more effective in a real war. Not saying this was it, but deviating from any business as usual will result in bitching (especially online).
  11. FWIW, I’ve had multiple people tell me they know somebody with the inside scoop that each competitor is the one that was picked and also that the whole program was starting over. All I know is that they picked something and aren’t starting over.
  12. What’s the status of the Scorpion jet now? Still keeping the lights on with it or mothballed?
  13. I Thought a prerequisite for that job was to be a terminal O-5 on a fini tour. They must’ve needed a snacko or something.
  14. That’s shocking. To the CSO school or cross over with the Navy?
  15. I’ve seen a bunch of folks talking that if anyone does this single pilot KC-46 thing, they need to be black balled from all the airlines. These are the same people that bitch about toxic leadership and all the other talkings points 24/7. I find it highly ironic that black balling a guy for something he’s ordered to do about the most toxic thing I’ve ever heard.
  16. I love this movie. I like your analysis but I think you missed one of the biggest themes of the movie. I think it’s the danger of obsession at the expense of everything else in one’s life. The Buddy Rich parallels and then at the end where Miles Teller basically turns his back on his dad and goes 100% into the drums. Fantastic movie.
  17. Is there a public reason behind this request? I suspect that tanker capacity given crew capacity must not be enough to meet certain taskings. If that’s the case, I say good on this General for thinking outside the box and attempting to find a creative way to meet requirements. If it’s for some non-combat related reason, then I don’t get it. Beyond the 2 pilot certification, is there a reason that you actually need two pilots up front? Human factors of gear actuation or something? Can the boom sit right seat during admin portions and back up the pilot? I don’t know what level of training boom operators have so that may be a stupid idea.
  18. Having never flown the KC-46, is it really a bridge too far to fly it single pilot? Beyond what the flight manual says, is it essential to have 2 pilots?
  19. Final travel update: Made it to Denver after 9 (!) delays due purely to personnel reasons. Arrived home 13 hours after fragged. Both flights also didn’t have a gate to go to so we spent another hour sitting just outside the gate. And then my checked bag got lost. Other than that, no issues.
  20. Update 2: Anti-skid went out so delayed to fix that but then a storm hit and we’re stuck on the ramp until we can actually fix something. Mods, feel free to start a new thread of Danger41’s slow descent into psychosis.
  21. Update. Another delay to go along with the previous 3. SWA for context. I saw their pilot union tweeting at the company about overbooking flights without crews to make it happen. I know this isn’t unique to SWA, but is there anything that can be done to get this straightened out in our transportation system? I know I’m just venting here, but it just feels like it’s emblematic of this whole country being just kind of crappy in a lot of areas that used to be solid.
  22. WTF is going on with the airlines now with delays/cancellation? In the last 30 calendar days, I’m at 70% delays or cancellations including 100% on current trip.
  23. Damn, that’s tragic. I’m honestly surprised he didn’t wipe out the controls as a last chance thing based on his Navy time. I thought that was always the last thing before taking the cat shot. Snort obviously had a shit ton of Navy flying to build his foundation. Any Squids have perspective on that?
  24. Not that it’s a great choice, but I’d rather see an open ranks inspection than most of the other stupid shit we saw in the month of June.
  25. I hope a lot of AF guys that have no goal in life besides jumping to the airlines at the earliest opportunity read this stuff for context. An airline career is fantastic, but I hear a lot of young guys that think it’s all perfect and zero drawbacks that have zero clue. I’ve talked to a bunch that literally don’t even know there’s a union and how they’re anti-union. Best of luck with that in the airlines.
