  1. I’ll admit that I’ve never taught UPT or been through PIT, but I’d like to see the quality of instruction that a CFI that got a degree in aviation could provide to a student compared to alot of the dudes PIT has produced. I got my degree in Aviation Education and honestly what most AF IP’s at various levels have provided is not good based on fundamentals of adult learning. It’s mainly supervision and discovery learning that produces results via coercive means (fear, sarcasm, ridicule). Maybe a wet behind the ears CFI would apply some of their knowledge and help the student.
  2. My only interaction with the current CC and the next one was when they were Wing and Ops Group CC’s at Hurlburt. The crazy part about it to me is that a vast majority of people that have opinions on these two never interacted with them and are drawing from that timeframe. The overwhelming negativity about opinions should tell you how that tenure went. My perspective on that is that they both were hard asses that were sticklers for the rules. However, a lot of their actions seem to have gone well beyond holding a hard line and well into malicious territory. I’m sure stories will pour in but I’ve heard many well down the grapevine and they are awful.
  3. That’s interesting/disappointing that it’s that limited to accession. I think they could really open up pipelines from ERAU, UND, and then other smaller aviation schools to siphon those folks for a few years to build time then make the airline leap. Another thing I would love to see is an option at the end of their contracts for CAIPs to get commissions and pilot spots. Talk about a safe bet to make it through UPT with those folks.
  4. That 50 hour CFI will have a bare minimum of 300 hours (any part 61 gurus feel free to fact check me but I’m confident in that number) when they’re hired. I’d guess they’ll get at least 100 more from the AF in the T-6 (not to mention sims) before they hit the line. I’d trust that individual more than a FAIP simply due to the real world experience they’ve had, especially if they have a Part 61 CFI background.
  5. If this was an option when I was a punk ass 22 year old CFI building hours, I would’ve jumped at this. I know tons of my peers that would have too. A bunch of them flew puddle jumpers from Huron, SD to other upper Midwest garden spots trying to build hours and they were all miserable. This is a fantastic option for young CFI’s. Acceptance amongst the IP cadre will be interesting. I’ll bet most of the cool IP’s who also are good pilots will be great to work with. I’ll bet a lot of the guys who suck at flying and are burdens to every organization they’re a part of (yet convinced they’re God’s gift to mil aviation) will be a pain.
  6. I think I’ve sang the same song a few months into deployment when I’m stuck on the middle of the night lines where absolutely nothing happens.
  7. Looks like the hook and/or cable hit the engines and made that spark shower. Honestly not sure. I saw one of these from the SOF truck before and don’t remember seeing sparks but I do remember the directive to not use the brakes and use the motors when the cable starts to pull you backwards. Nice job to all involved!
  8. If we want to hijack this thread into the relevancy of the USMC and/or why they need heavy armor for their actual mission, I suggest we just start a new thread. Spoiler alert on my opinion is the Marines need to not be Army 2.0. Regardless, I completely agree with you that tanks can be very valuable even against an ATGM equipped enemy. You nailed it with how you use them is the key to success. Ball walking down the road in a bunch of tanks ain’t the way to do that.
  9. Agreed. Also makes the Marines look pretty damn smart by pivoting away from tanks and looking to drastically restructure their force (pretty interesting topic if you aren’t tracking).
  10. The SEALs of the Sky comment from 15 years ago. But seriously, I don’t know. I do know that one squadron was 4/11 on guys making Major which is just obscene and should have raised some kind of red flag one would think. I’d heard it’s because the ops squadrons are constructed in a somewhat unique manner for training with R&D shops and White Cell etc and that doesn’t translate to the Comm Officer on the promotion board. No clue how true that is but this board is a travesty and slap in the face to the Draco community. It’ll do wonders for the vibe about being the red headed stepchildren and feeling like AFSOC doesn’t like them.
  11. I don’t. The only thing that reminded me was that individual and this story talked about EFMP for a kid and how that caused problems for his career. And it was about how he wanted gunships but got “this piece of shit” lol. Then went on to just go off about the community etc. Unfortunate scenario of getting caught up in emotions and realizing he didn’t have what it took to be flying something requiring one engine and two massive balls.
  12. Out of curiosity, are you the guy that got U-28’s and went on a Facebook tirade about how shitty that community is?
  13. I view this like how NFL players were trained in the 50’s compared to now. There’s no substitute for game/practice time, but the weight training, diet, mental training, etc is no comparison. As a result, look at Dick Butkus compared to Patrick Willis or basically any Offensive Lineman from then compared to now. I use that as an example because a lot of UPT is the same as it was back then. Not taking advantage of modern methods is silly and leaves a lot of untapped potential on the table. I’m not saying these first iterations are perfect but I really hope they continue to pursue it.
  14. Anyone for the deets on UAL new contract?
  15. Is there a T-1 replacement plan or is everyone going T-7? Sorry for my ignorance, I genuinely don’t know the UPT future plans.
  16. I’m a regular viewer of Steve’s 10 Percent True show and read/own several of his books and I don’t fault him for pursuing the story. That’s his job as an author. What sticks in my craw about this story is that there are two sources that feel the need to comment to an author/journalist about something that absolutely shouldn’t be discussed. He’s not a shoulder to cry on about a tragic event. He’s an author with well known credentials. I’ll admit that it’s a terrible situation for families in these types of scenarios but that’s part of the deal, as cold as that sounds. There’s a wall at the CIA commemorating lost agents and most of them aren’t identified. Hopefully their families know about their fates, but I doubt it. My $0.02
  17. The alphabet people like them for the stories.
  18. You got the memo on no black boots and calling it a “heritage room” too right? Also, don’t look for porn in the shitters anymore…
  19. The focus is just interesting aviation stories for military? If you’re in Pensacola and reaching beyond the Navy, there’s plenty of Hurlburt and Eglin based USAF folks with great stories. I know a couple active on this board and some others that aren’t that have all kinds. Good luck!
  20. She’s really good. I hope she covers Danger Zone!
  21. Lol you may not be a troll but holy shit you’re sensitive.
  22. I sincerely hope the rest of the awacs community doesn’t view the ABM’s that way. They’re the reason you exist on that platform and eventually get the all important 737 type rating.
