That guy got paid? I’d pay to listen to his standup routine but otherwise huh?
-
As much as this story sounds plausible, my inner misogynist thinks this chick may be reconstructing history in the debrief after she gets crushed industry wide for being lame. I know it’s highly unlikely for a female to not accept the consequences of her actions, but it’s possible.

Does flying start feeling like a job after a while?

Ah, okay. Well quit medicine then. Sounds gay. -

Flying is the fun part but that’s also a small part of it. For example, if you want to fly fighters, you’ll fly for an hour or two but the brief, debrief, and planning for that is probably 10x that much. Heavy pilots aren’t as intense on that stuff (still do it though) but they have other things to deal with way beyond just blasting off. Same with helos, bombers, you name it. Having said that, it’s way better than having a real job. And if you’re looking at the Guard, why not keep the medical job and be a pilot? Quite literally why the ANG exists is scenarios like that. -
It’s insane how 4 minutes after the cop pulls into the parking lot on a seemingly pretty routine call, he’s shot SrA Fortson. What a horrible situation.

Interesting note about this guy was that he was a West Point grad turned Infantry then Special Forces Officer. I'm sure this story will be a calm and reasonable discussion focusing on just the facts.

My dated data was that the last initial qual would be sometime in 26 and last upgrade early 27 (I think). That is assuming all OA-1K replacement stays on timeline, numbers, etc

Any updates on this? Saw it on the VML. I was curious if it has changed with the Raptor FTU moving out to Langley.

If you see something about "STOVL" or "Engine Nozzle Move Lever", don't touch it.

Commanders are dropping like flies this year

Going through this now with my in-laws. For the love of all that is holy, write out your will in excruciating detail and remove any family member from executing it. -
Where do you guys look for all this info? Genuinely curious.

That’s quite the saga about a STS CC getting relieved and some GS civilians running amok with gym equipment and TDY’s and such. The STS CC aired all the dirty laundry about the whole thing and it was pretty unbelievable. Total lack of conflict resolution/leadership to get these people in line. Also, fear of the Union of the GS people. But her multiple exec tours and nonner roles look great on the bio so that’s what counts. -
I think the odds of a 64 year old being unnecessarily naked and not realizing his camera and mic are on is a pretty likely scenario.

Any FedEX guys know when the iPad (10) lanyards are getting ordered? I’d like one.

If you think Tommy Tuberville will make that decision, we really are fucked. And hearing a high ranking GO actually be honest about costs, troop numbers, etc is a nice departure from the Afghanistan hearings.

Artificial Intelligence: Discussion and demonstrations
Danger41 replied to Lord Ratner's topic in Squadron Bar
Your description of a a "hyper sophisticated search engine" is very accurate. I've worked on a bunch of AI things and the annoying part about AI is the assurance that people think it will get to "general" artificial intelligence because it's growing so fast. It's very similar to saying we'll have time travel in the next 10 years because tech is changing so fast. https://www.hup.harvard.edu/books/9780674278660 - "The Myth of Artificial Intelligence" is a good read to understand this subject. -
I will bet a large sum of money that they will agree with that sentiment. I also bet that modern day fighter pilots will have a different interpretation. Seeing as I’m between these two generations, I’ll defer to the voice of the elder millennial, Jeffrey Lebowski.

So shooting down hordes of IL-76 = No kills?
-
That’s actually a pretty interesting discussion point. Does it have to be manned for a kill to count? Does it have to be maneuvering? I wonder what the F-14 community would say shooting down Soviet missiles going after the carriers? Or German pilots shooting down non-maneuvering bombers in WW2? What about a gun kill vice missile kill? And if you get 5 BVR kills with active missiles really make you more talented of a fighter pilot than some guy that got 1 with a 9P?

Went to Civil War today. Very good movie. I really liked how there was basically no political agenda one way or another, just a story. Highly recommend.

On that note, on the AF portal search for “ARMS” and find the one labeled “aircrew summary”. Great way to make sure HARM is inputting sorties. Also, the AF apparently rolled out a cool thing called “envision” (envision.af.mil) that has all that along with career summary stuff. Very good product.

My favorite output from that was the crater directly where the hangar with gym in a box was with a quote “I told you to stop dropping the weights!”

Yeah, that was another surprising thing with how many Rangers (75th guys) had a hell of a time getting through Ranger school. It’s no joke.
-
Ranger school is a leadership school and that’s why every Army MOS can attend. It’s why every member of the 75th Ranger Regiment had to attend Ranger school in addition to passing their assessment (RASP or RIP depending on when). I was pretty surprised to learn you can’t be a cook in the 75th without passing both. They also have spots every class for other service members that often go unfilled. The Air Assault one and Sapper is more interesting to me. I’m sure it was sold as leadership development or some such, but it seems a bit odd. Good on him though!
