During a recent trip to the shitter, I looked into this and was surprised to see ALPA thinks this is bad. Why would they do that? Isn't their motivation to get their members more money/better QOL/better work rules?

One of my favorite parts of that story was their squadron commander calling an Eagle squadron commander up there who's squadron hadn't gotten any kills yet (through no fault of their own) and offered to come by and give some advice on air to air work.

Just do it over a weekend unless you're planning to make the bar crazy fancy. Also, I'll never forget the rage I felt as I walked into an AFSOC squadron bar after a long day wanting a beer and seeing AFI 34-219 plastered all over the place stating that the higher echelons hadn't approved the drinking beer plan so there was no alcohol. I've never felt more like Colonel Kurtz about how we train young men to rain fire on the nations enemies but don't allow them to have a beer (or write "fuck" on their airplanes because it's obscene). Pursue that at your own peril.

I’m sure these are all poor, tired, huddle masses yearning to be free and not any connection to the CCP and their ideas. The landowner (legal immigrant from Yugoslavia) who got arrested for shooting his gun in the air and the lady who speaks Spanish and says she doesn’t even run into a single Spanish speaker some days is mind blowing.

Apparently the show is very historically accurate in terms of what airplanes were shot down and when. Very interesting. I never really made the connection until I read Robin Olds' book "Fighter Pilot" when he talks about the bravery of bomber crews for not being able to maneuver like he could in the P-38/P-51. Another story from the same time about a guy who flew fighters with him that he could hear crying in his room after missions and he thought he was a coward but then realized how he was actually braver than Robin because he had that amount of fear and still went out every day. He was eventually killed. Truly amazing stories from the USAAF in Europe (not to mention the USN/USMC in the Pacific).

More strikes in Yemen today on Houthis. https://www.cnn.com/2024/02/03/politics/strikes-us-uk-houthi-yemen/index.html

I think they delayed the strikes to not overshadow the return of the remains.

F-16 Down in Yellow Sea during Korean Exercise
Danger41 replied to gearhog's topic in General Discussion
I heard the same thing about 104’s in Germany. -
Pretty much the same except they don’t say airframes available (at least they didn’t at Sheppard when I went through with Orville and Wilbur). We wore told how many engines we had in the drop and we all tried to figure out what the combination was when our resident crusty bastard came in and said “It’s 3 Buffs, one with an engine failure, and the rest of you washed out”. God Bless you Guido, wherever you are.

F-16 Down in Yellow Sea during Korean Exercise

I can't believe we've gone this far without someone rolling in with a "UPT 2.5, wings after T-6, back in my day" rant yet. -
Casualties ID’d and released by the Army. Specialist Breonna Moffett, 23 Specialist Kennedy Sanders, 24 Sergeant William Rivers, 46 All 3 were Reservists out of Fort Moore, GA. The 2 females (Sanders and Moffett) were Horizontal Construction Engineers and Rivers was an Interior Electrician. Sounds like their sleeping quarters were hit by the drone.

Out at Tower 22 near Al Tanf. 3 FKIA, 34 FWIA, 8 critical evacuees. Damn.

As long as Texas and the states supporting them stick together, they should be fine like these brave young patriots.

I don’t have any connection to Michigan or Harbaugh but am I the only one that thinks he seems like a really weird and awkward dude?
-
I was wondering about that because I know injury redshirts aren’t just given out so he must have gotten hurt early and pretty badly. Good on him getting all that school paid for. Is he a factor for the Canes this year?
-
All that education and he can’t take a hint. 4 years straight of season ending injuries may be some kind of a sign.
-
Which I also find funny given the high G, highly maneuverable profiles of the B-2.

What is the “A model IP straight out of UPT” thing referring to?

Try this instructional video.

I say we rewrite our doctrine for 3 years and just conquer these places and make some new states.

Commanders are dropping like flies this year
Danger41 replied to MDDieselPilot's topic in General Discussion
I don't have a problem with a bunch of my deserving contemporaries not getting sent to fighters when the war needed pilots to fly other stuff. I think institutionally we need to get away from the MWS tribes and gate keeping and realize that what you get out of UPT shouldn't define/exclude your career the entire time. If you want to see some funny stuff, look at some of the UPT grads scores that went non-fighters from the 07-09 year group and then compare it to a guy in the mid-teens that did. You'd rather take a guy who's sole talent is fogging a mirror into a Viper than a thousand combat hour U-28 kid that had the misfortune of bad timing? I know it's more complicated than that but that's always bugged me. -

Another thing in the fighter community right now for CC’s is that if you go back to when these dudes were in UPT, fighters were few and far between. The U-28 community just released their DO/CC list and the vast majority were T-38 trained O-5’s who in normal times would’ve ended up in Vipers or something else. It’s weird how you shut the flood gates for a couple years and end up paying for it down the road. -

When I was on the WIC staff from 17-20, every fighter WPS had a Major DO. Pretty wild stuff that it’s CC’s now. Also, if there’s any A1 flesh peddlers out there, I’ll go fly a fighter and babysit all the young bucks as an O-5. Service Before Self. Preferably Lakenheath or Kadena or Hill or some other nice place. No Korea. And I gotta fly a lot. And I get to delegate everything to the O-4’s for their leadership development. Meet those, and I’m yours. Oh yeah…only TX course and Santa Claus IP’s. That’s it. -
Sounds like a similar stress level to being home with my 4 kids.

I have no talent at baiting and setting a hook like @BashiChuni the troll goat.
