I know of a guard heavy unit where the full timers do 4/9s, to make it an 80 hr pay period they work and extra 8 hr day every other week. In this case, 1/2 of the aircrew would get Mondays off, the other 1/2 would get Fridays off. Seems to work for them.

I also read somewhere else about reduction of A-10 units and how the 188th was one of five ANG hog units but I cannot find it.

The 5 A-10 Guard units, seems like one will get chopped.

Wrong, he was married, he punched so that bitch wouldn't collect on his SGLI. I heard he began filing divorce papers on his ride to the hospital.

Spend the money for extra ratings?

Enlisting will help you out more than spending money on advanced ratings IMHO. I did both. -

ANG Pilot lifestyle/Quality of Life
Fast_N_Low135 replied to a topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
When I easy, I mean routinely. If you read my post post, I say you do have to work hard, ie taking trips to the desert. Plus, i've been in this unit for 6 years, I have an idea of the ops tempo, annual trips, and how much you should be able to pull in as a hard working bum. -

I'm not done with training yet, but I know that bums in my unit are pulling 40-50K a year easy. I'm in a tanker unit with an alert mission that is more or less staffed by qualified traditional (everybody get two days alert per month, which is 6 days active duty pay). With addition to UTAs, FTPs and TDYs, you could get paid for about 20 days per month. I beleive the record for my unit for a bum was 92K in one year, though it is extremely rare and he sold his soul to do it. You could instruct or do nothing on the side. Just be prepared to take some shitty trips to the desert and things like that to make nice with the scheduler. Anybody please correct me if my info is a little off. Hope this helps. Fast -
Just got issued some lace-in zipper flight boots but have no idea how to lace in the zipper without it looking like a bag of ass. Anybody have any techniques they would like to share. Or should i just ditch the zipper and get some longer laces. Disclaimer: I did not use the search function. thanks, fast

In order to log PIC time when you are the "sole manipulator" of the controls, you must be rated in that category, class, or type (if required). So if you have a PPL in ASEL, you can log PIC time in T-6's, even if it's high performance, because you are the sole manipulator of the controls. Now when you get to T-1's, you cannot log PIC time because you are not rated in that type, even if you did have an AMEL rating. Making sense? I'll give some examples from my experiences, an no, I've not been to UPT yet, but will be this spring. When getting my commercial, I had to begin flying a Piper Arrow, which is a complex aircraft, I did not have a complex endorsement. Yet I was able to log PIC with my instructor because I was the sole manipulator of the controls in an aircraft with a category and class I was rated in. When I started my multi-engine, I was not able to log PIC time even as sole manipulator of the controls because I was not rated in that class. Quick question, when I get done with UPT, can I go to the FSDO and get a high performance endorsement for soloing in T-6's?

Just got my scores back today Pilot: 98, Nav: 84, AA: 75, Ver: 66, Quant: 76 All i did was study and do the sample and practice tests in the ARCO a couple of weeks prior to get a feel for the test and my weak areas. I was already familiar with the aviation knowlegde (I'm a CFI student, so I've been studying that for a while) and instrument interp. My weal areas was verb and having to do math without a calculator again. The verbal is a little more difficult to correct, but the math wasn't, just got the pencil out and practiced my short hand. Note: learn frational and diecimal relationships, this help me out big on time, i just looked at a fraction and new what ball park the decimal number was, no long division needed. Test day, I got 8 hrs of sleep, got up 2 hrs before the test to allow my body and mind to fully wake up. I dressed nice, e.i khaki slacks, button down, and nice shoes, to make myself feel more professional and get in that mindset. I ate a full breakfast and had a small coffee, and relaxed. While taking the test, I actually found the areas either easier or the same difficulty and the practice tests in the ARCO book. Some of the words were even the same as the ARCO tests. Time managment is huge, I brought a stop watch to time myself, when about 20 seconds were left for a section, i just started to fill in bubbles since to do not get penalized for having the wrong answer. DO NOT LEAVE ANY BUBBLES EMPTY!!! Thats my advice Good luck

I'm a crew chief on heavies and i get lots of face time with the pilots working on the line and going TDY, but if you could be aircrew(ie load master or boom, go for it). But in my opinion, crew chief is the Air FOrces best kept secret.

We have a pilot that brings a huge cooler of beer on TDY's for the crew chiefs, all we have to do is buy him a case of bud. Its a good deal that i don't want going away. -
