Chances of getting a tailhook / jet slot in Navy Flight School
nunya replied to Starboard's topic in What Are My Chances?
Jet draft was just what the Marines called the trend of jet non-vols. They were "drafted" into jets whether they wanted it or not, especially if they were a strong student in a weak selection week. Nobody knows when it will or won't happen - manning decisions are reactionary by nature. It's not go at your own pace at all. You might take longer to get through, but it's at the pace dictated by the squadron, weather, your own pass rate, etc. Some Whiting students were finishing in 4 months, others 6+. In the end, UPT is a factory for all services. Our job is to train you and move you along. You get no say in the pace. You start in classes for ground school and for admin purposes (i.e. Chain of Command), but those quickly disintegrate and you'll finish on your own, maybe weeks earlier or later than your ground school class mates. -
Chances of getting a tailhook / jet slot in Navy Flight School

What I've seen at Whiting is the Marines are the least predictable. Sometimes they have jets for all my friends. They even had a "jet draft" last year and non-vol'd some Marines into jets. Other times everyone is going helos, like it or not. C-130s are usually rare. You've also got Ospreys in the mix. Navy is a little more like AF in that most drops have at least a couple jets. The score you're ranked by is called "NSS" and it's PFM. Don't waste brain cells trying to figure it out - you'll just fail with a headache. Either way, USMC or USN, there're no classes like in the AF. When you finish, you select the next week. It's all luck and timing for who you're up against. If it's a rock star week, good luck. If it's not, your odds of getting your first choice are better. There may or may not be some manipulation to get good students what they want, but that's above your pay grade anyway, so don't even try to game it. In the end, across all services, it's the job of your primary instructors to try to match you where you fit best. Choose a service for its mission and lifestyle, not for the odds of getting a T-38 or T-45. -

Have we gotten to the point where guys with a short tour are getting tagged for 365s or is 1 short still enough to keep you off the list? I know prior Es are vulnerable for the 365s because of their ancient STRDs (relative to their commissioning year group peers). What's the latest trend? Who tops the list?

Yes. Look at the example on page 51-8. https://comptroller.d...7a_51.pdf#page7 The 10th is the cutoff for that month's credit.

So you're planning to steal a 130 from your local Guard base and you need a step-by-step. Got it.

Wait... what? You gotta paste the email here or something. So no more PT gear chiefing? I don't think I can comprehend that.

Same as everywhere else. You hand in a dream sheet, AFPC sends down what they need filled, the IPs give their inputs, and STUCON pays the bill with the available students. If you want helos, let that be known ASAP because STUCON will have to find you one. If you want T-38s or T-1s, put it on your dream sheet, keep your mouth shut, and let the cards fall where they may.

Eventually it shuts down and is a paperwight until it cools. Shows a message about thermal something-or-other. -
My last base had stuff like this: https://www.furnitureforlabs.com/series.asp?idCategoryID=13&idSeriesID=41 Google "lab furniture" and you'll get lots of stuff.

Do you actually want the 45 ACP or just a double action revolver? 45 ACPs will require moon clips, which can be a plus or minus. I personally don't like dealing with them. I've got a 357 Ruger GP100 (6" stainless) that I'll never sell. (Wolff springs really help, too.) S&W's 686 is equally worthwhile if you like the 357. Then of course there's the bonus of shooting (relatively) cheap 38s all the way to the Buffalo Bore 180gr 357s when you need the power.

Yep. Call up your education center and demand they enroll you, a brand new 1Lt, in the Capt PME. They'll do it. (or maybe you look at the requirements for SOS... just a thought)

I chose the Accupoint 1-4 for that niche. I like it better than a 1x with a magnifier.

Thankfully I'll be done before it changes, as no good can come from this. It seems each iteration of AU's brainchildren is more painful than the last. ETA: Here's the blurb. Hmm.. simulation. Sounds exciting!

C.S. wildfire: USAFA given pre-evacuation warning
nunya replied to Techsan's topic in General Discussion
USAFA site says newbies report tomorrow as scheduled, but to the field house instead of Doolittle. Sounds like they'll go as usual in the cadet area for now. -

KKTV has live streaming. Looks devastating, to put it lightly. https://www.kktv.com/video/live -
If it's true at all, therein lies the catch. The cases where a wife had to live separate must be the tiny minority. Most guys (like ASUPilot) are doing it completely by choice (better job, schools, not Cannon, whatever).

Your ability or inability to fly gliders means very little. I've seen glider IPs do very well at UPT and I've seen them do mediocre. There are similarities, but they're limited. I wouldn't hire you to be a soaring IP with that resume, but I also wouldn't necessarily turn you down for UPT 3 years from now based solely on 10 flights in a glider. Go pay for a few hours at the aeroclub (if they still have it) or downtown. See how you do there. Maybe you won't even like it - better to find out now than after your dollar ride.

Trident university TUI increasing tuition rates

Using your GI Bill for yourself while AD is the least effective way to use it (i.e. it's worth the least), but if you don't have any kids to give it to or don't want to use it after you get out, then go for it. I used mine for one class while active and then I crunched the numbers, realized I was retarded for doing that, and paid out of pocket the rest of the time.
