  1. All, looking for some guidance. I am looking into doing the Academy ALO program which is a category E, points only program. My question is in regard to rank. If you are an O-4 Are you allowed to continue to 20 years or do you have to make 0-5 to get to 20?
  2. Quick question, I am trying to get back into the guard after a 4 year break in service, meaning I will have to go to MEPS again, My unit (recruiter)is saying after submitting my info to MEPS that it could take up to 5 Surgeon General Waivers to get back in. He says he could see one get approved but not up to 5. Is he right or just not willing to put in the work? His tone indicates he does not want to submit the waivers. Still waiting to hear from the OG though. Am I screwed? Do the SG waivers get any special consideration due to being previous active duty for 10 years opposed to a newbie off the street?
  3. I was recently hired back into the guard, had a 4 year break in service but decided to get back in to finish out my time since I had 10 years on active duty. I have not sworn in yet, in the process of getting back in. I let my civilian employer know that I would be returning to the guard part time (4 days a month) and now they posted my job online trying to fill immediately. I have not been let go, yet.. Since I am not in the guard yet do I have any protection against being fired? Here is an excerpt from USERRA, which covers future service (note 3): USERRA is a federal law intended to ensure that persons who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, Reserves, National Guard or other uniformed services: (1) are not disadvantaged in their civilian careers because of their service; (2) are promptly reemployed in their civilian jobs upon their return from duty; and (3) are not discriminated against in employment based on past, present, or future military service. The law is intended to encourage uniformed service so that the United States can enjoy the protection of those services, staffed by qualified people, while maintaining a balance with the needs of private and public employers who also depend on these same individuals.
  4. Thanks. My concern is the depth perception. I rarely passed the DP test while on active duty FC1, but went to Brooks and passed all those tests and was cleared. Joining the guard to fly RPAs and don't want the hassle of going back to Brooks. Some reason have a hard time with the circle tests in the box.
  5. Does anyone know if the FC1 requirements (eye sight, depth perception) for RPA pilots is the same as those flying manned aircraft?
  6. So if one had $40K to invest and looking for a safe but moderate return, where would you invest it?
  7. I am not sure if the guy in Boston is doing them any longer, no one seems to be able to get in touch with him. He is an elderly guy, early 70s if I had to guess. If you can get him, best deal out there. It is on the level, you accomplish everything required per the PTS for the checkride. He just uses a different philosophy on how he conducts the checkride and it is tailored for military guys.
  8. The guy in Boston is still doing them and well worth the trip up there to get it done. If you need the info PM me.
  9. Well, sometimes good folks get passed over. Mother AF does screwed up things.
  10. Why unfortunate that they got promoted?
  11. Gotcha. Sounds like a timing issue depending when I get back in.
  12. Is it just a regular promotion board, or separate from the normal boards?
  13. I have a quick question about guard promotions. If you left AD as an O-3 and came into the guard, how long does it usually take to get promoted to O-4 assuming you meet the time in current grade, PME, etc? Curious how this process works. Specifically, I was twice deferred to O-4 on active duty, and want to know the promotion process in the guard or reserves from this situation. I have heard of many people who left AD because being twice deferred and were promoted in the guard/reserve.
  14. For current AD pilots, what is the DNIF period after having lasik before RTF status is approved?
  15. Greg, thanks for the info. At this point, I would take a non-flying gig to get back in. If I have to do that to get in, so be it. Once in it should be easy to get back to a flying unit. Going to start talking to some AETC IP squadrons and go from there. I would take a UAV here but they are not hiring anytime soon since they are still in the transition and will not lose all the A-10s until next summer. If people know of units anywhere looking for people, will take that info too!
