  1. here's a pic of the panel...interesting configuration, especially if it isn't mounted upside down.
  2. Oh yes, still rockin...if old people in shitty western gear is rockin
  3. As a student you won't have a choice, you'll be on base. If for some reason they don't have housing (they had plenty as of several months ago), move on as soon as possible. You want to be close to your class for studying/partying, and being 1/4 of a mile from the flight line makes life easy. The only folks I knew who lived off base either moved on as soon as they could, or washed out.

  6. lucky I guess. I changed bikes and they farmed me to progressive years ago. The initial rates progressive was quoting were actually really good compared to what they quoted if you didn't get referred by USAA, but within a couple years they were quoting me ridiculous prices.
  7. very nice!! I tried to find a superduke that wouldn't break the bank, the Zed was just too good a deal to pass up.
  8. finally got a new scooter, too bad the roads around hell rio turned out to be terrifying and boring to boot, counting the days until I get to leave
  9. Confirmed on the base. Both alive, no word on condition one way or the other.
  10. the posters have some differences from the actual aircraft, but its close enough, all the training posters in the Doss facility are different from the aircraft anyway
  11. from the article "This is not a graceful or elegant creature. It's a ######ing angry pig that roots around in shit all day and gores lesser creatures to death with it's giant goddamned awkward tusks."
  12. I suggest a boot to the door, I kicked the living hell out of more than a few cars trying to merge into me, works wonders.
  13. sorry, I wasn't clear, I don't think they are any shorter, however they aren't 5x too wide anymore so you don't look like you're carrying a giant steamer in back, these actually fit
  14. I have the new short ones with no reflective material, they were definitely worth the money, i always wear underarmor so the length isn't too much of an issue, they have a good sized ID/key pocket and don't make obnoxious noises while running, and in general fit/feel better...haven't seen the longer ones yet, but the shorter are a definitely improvement, whatever thats worth
  15. he has lots more, trust me, tell him to write a book already, they're all good
  16. Nope, although the leadership was a little more strict up at Danang than ours was living on the Marine airbase at Chu Lai, we all generally rolled up our sleeves, pulled the zippers down to mid-chest, and didn't wear reflective belts. It was a different time, that's for sure. Edit: Damn, junior's on my box again...
  17. I remember being involved with a study on options (in the 90s), good and bad. After the study was completed, the list was : Good - 0; Bad - dozens. Best option, stay as is. (EDIT: Oops, just noticed my son was on my computer. HiFlyer)
  18. that was an awesome bike, my first race bike, all day comfortable for the street, and immensely capable on the track, they need to make more bikes like that
  19. my DRZ400sm is my go anywhere bike, I'll take it there! with Avon Distanzias on it, it'll handle anything short of a river
  20. my Lt mobile after OTS, UPT, etc, I'm too afraid of injury ruining everything I've worked for, so I've quit racing, and I'm going insane already, so first up as soon as soon I can spare the time/money, a year or two old Graves Yamaha race bike yeah I know its not street legal, but I waste so much cash racing i drive whatever is cheap on the road, my money waster has numberplates not headlights
  21. I have not owned one, but I've raced several, of the 848's and 1098's I've raced and raced against, not one has lasted. Tranny issues in the two 1098's, one lost every gear but 4th, and one just ripped the tranny to shreds. The 848s both suffered bent shift forks and clutch master cylinder problems. I love the bikes, but they are not up the Japanese quite yet...I do admit racing is harder on bikes than street riding, but my Honda and the Suzuki's of my other teammates have never suffered a mechanical, while we've yet to see a Duc last a season. *the exception being the Air cooled 2v's. You're are right about those, they are AWESOME motors and I hate Ducati for axing the 1000DS supersport
  22. yeah, I think prices went up to around $800, but call around, sportbiketrackgear.com is a good place and many trackday orgs like NESBA have in-house vendors that have regular sales! Certainly can't go wrong with Astars in the meantime
  23. you can always look into "MotoGP" brand 'roo leathers. They're made by Madif industries, I've raced for 2 years in a set, crashed 4-5 times and only had to repair them once. I paid $650 for em
  24. Ahhh, a fellow DAC fan. You have great taste in redneck country music!
