The route goes by Glacier Peak ~60nm ENE of SEA. Never flown the route but have been nearby in light airplanes. That’s some of the most spectacular terrain in the Cascades. Wouldn’t be surprised if much of the filming took place in that area.

I was a firm believer that America would weather her current storms and come out stronger for it. Now I’m not so sure.

Demography is going to be a key buzzword, maybe THE key buzzword, in the coming decades.

Yes, taking medical advice based on breast size has GOT to be good for your health. This does say a lot about the current state of our country though. I’ll keep Jenny in the ‘better seen not heard’ file for the moment.

So who do you trust to give you pertinent information regarding infectious diseases and treatments? Jenny McCarthy? Q? Marjorie Taylor Greene? Or maybe Alex Jones? I’ll take my chances with the CDC, warts and all, thank you very much.

How many rallys has Hillary had since she lost?

But, but, but….don’t forget about the emails. And Benghazi. And it’s pretty much accepted she killed Epstein in his prison cell. Some conservatives will beat that carcass until there’s nothing left and then they’ll beat the imprint that it left in the ground.

Last I heard, he wants to be the R nominee in 2024. Thanks for making my point for me.

Remind me, what office is Hillary running for?

Step away from the ledge bro. Overpopulation is not the problem it once was. Birth rates are declining and it turns out we can probably support far more people on this planet than we thought even twenty years ago. This “global conspiracy to depopulate the earth” idea is such a stretch. There are so many disparate entities that would have to be working together, there is just no way. If it makes you feel better, I won’t turn on the chemtrails next flight.

Thanks for breaking this discussion out of the other thread. I think it’s a discussion all Americans need to be having right now. Many people in our country are convinced that the government must act like an individual and “balance its checkbook”. I’m no economist, but I have to ask: why? Sovereign nations do not operate on the life cycle of one human being. You and I enter the workforce, work for thirty to fifty years, retire, and die. Our financial considerations are completely different than those of an entire nation which strives to live on in perpetuity. Let’s have an honest discussion about national debt, money creation, and what it means to own the world’s reserve currency. I’m sure we have a lot of armchair economists here who will share their opinions, but I’m really interested in hearing from those who have studied the subject. Maybe we’ll all learn something.

I hope you’re prepared to duck… 😎

As much as I admire what Redbull has done to promote aviation, I think the FAA needs to go after the company as well. Someone there planned and approved the stunt, even after the FAA declined to approve it. And yeah, the pilots should’ve known better too.
-
I’ve heard the “sky is falling due to the national debt” shtick since I was about 12. We’re not only still here, but we’re still the world’s biggest economy by a wide margin. We might get passed by China someday if you believe their government’s numbers, but their per capita gdp sits between Iraq’s and the Maldives’. I have more/better stuff than my parents did and I enjoy living in a country that continues to host the world’s reserve currency (and will do so for the foreseeable future). It’s almost as if sovereign debt is a completely different animal than personal debt. Who knew? 🤷♂️
-
What percentage of that debt is attributable to what we're talking about? Whatever the number is, it's a good deal if it means maintaining global peace and stability. And don't think for a minute that the Chinese wouldn't be more than happy to take on that debt in our absence and immediately exploit the ensuing power vacuum to spread their brand of "governance" and influence far and wide. The world starts to be a real drag, real quick if we abdicate our role in it.
-
'Cause being the biggest player in the game means you get to make the rules. I like living in a world where the United States is THE leader when it comes to influencing global values, especially when Russia and China badly want to replace us in that regard.
-
Yeah, I’ve kind of wondered if it might play out that way too. One reason the airlines might want to think long and hard about this one as it very well could make their pilot “shortage” worse.
-
This is a VERY recent development & it kind of boggles my mind. It has been far more common for traditional “leftists” to argue that military alliances, globalism, and extensive foreign aid (specifically military aid) should take a back seat to solving issues at home. It’s only recently that the nativist wing of the Republican Party has taken over and made this issue it’s own. The Republican Party I grew up with (the people you now call Rinos) remembered the lessons of the Second World War and understood the benefits of a more “globalist” (now a dirty word for the new “conservatives”) outlook and it was commonplace to see the more left leaning folks criticize them for it. I feel like I’m living in bizarro world now when I hear conservatives rabidly sounding the mil/industrial complex alarm and liberals advocating NATO expansion.
-
Yeah, ‘cause all us leftys are big militarily alliance proponents.
-
Eye-roll. You don’t. You weigh the positives and negatives and make an informed decision on whether the alliance provides enough benefit to make it worthwhile. The fact that the Turks have put up with the Greeks for this long suggests that the Finns & Swedes won’t really end up being a non starter for them. Question: Do you believe any alliance makes sense in the modern world? Your posts suggest you don’t. Do you truly believe the world would be more stable if all alliances were dissolved?

I saw some of the alleged proposed rule stating that over 65 would be subject to additional medical screening above the current class 1 requirements and possibly even additional checkride requirements. I don’t see too many passing all the new requirements or even willing to subject themselves to them. Especially now that most airlines are using sodomization—-I mean optimization scheduling software. No one wants to stick around any longer than they have to.

Meh. Lots of nonsensical rambling. He'll be on the DTM circuit soon enough & we'll all care even less about what he has to say then. F1 has already given us 4cyl turbos that sound like shit and says it's going to be "net zero" by 2030. What more does he want? I suppose he can take a sailboat to the overseas races if he feels that guilty.
-
I thought it turned out pretty good. I shared your concerns when I first saw the course, but honestly it was a good race. As far as passing coming from "inadequate braking/locking up the brakes going into turns", isn't that exactly how most of the passing happens on most of the tracks? Sit behind your opponent, put pressure on him, and wait for him to fuck up....and then hope you didn't waste too much rubber in the process? I do wish we'd see a lot more permanent road courses vs these semi-permanent tight-ish street courses popping up, but IMO Miami is worlds better than say Saudi when it comes down to design and the strategy is giving us 3 U.S. races next year so I can't complain too much.

Thanks for sharing yours. Honestly. I’m glad that the path you chose worked out for you and your family. The part of your post that I quoted is important and absolutely correct. There are a great many people who have had vastly different life experiences and for myriad reasons, might’ve found your approach unworkable. I respect your position. On a personal level, believe it or not, I agree with you. But I’ve met and spoken with enough people who do not agree that I don’t believe abortion is an option that we should flatly deny to people. Obviously, the fact I take that position means we disagree on the fundamental question of when a fertilized egg becomes a human being. I don’t expect you to be swayed on that one, but know that there really are millions of Americans who don’t see it like you.
